CNN’s Lou Dobbs was on a tear last night. Allah posted his editorial excoriating Barack Obama for the flag lapel pin flap. In this segment, Dobbs and CNN reporter Kitty Pilgrim take a look at NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s plan to allow illegal aliens to obtain state drivers licenses. They determine that the Spitzer plan is itself illegal.
The report even swings briefly into the role that illegal immigration and drivers licenses played in facilitating 9-11. That story can’t be told often enough, especially when Dobbs was preceded on CNN by Larry King softball interviewing Vicente Fox, who insisted that terrorism and illegal immigration aren’t connected in any way.

I suddenly feel like visiting eloan.com…
Typical liberal response: People are breaking the law, so just help them out. They need it.
MadisonConservative on October 9, 2007 at 10:38 AM
Right MC…they wouldn’t be breaking the law so much if they didn’t need it sooo much, right?!
Bob's Kid on October 9, 2007 at 10:41 AM
Lou Dobbs is being added to my hero’s in the media list. That is a very short list.
Maxx on October 9, 2007 at 10:42 AM
LOL… called this a couple of weeks ago…
Now… add in that he is in a conspriracy to circumvent federal law.
Hmmm… now I know its really hard to sue a sitting Politician in this country, but when they knowingly break the law, and theres a consequence, can’t you? We do have the right to petition for Redress….
Romeo13 on October 9, 2007 at 10:42 AM
Why stop at driver’s licenses? Give them gun licenses, too.
trubble on October 9, 2007 at 10:44 AM
Then enroll them all in flight school
Ochlan on October 9, 2007 at 10:48 AM
So will he give guns to violent felons too? How about condoms to rapists? Maybe he could drive them to their victim’s house and drive the get-away car?
Well I’m off to e-loan…. for -er- something….

Spitzer is being neither practical or moral IMHO.
abinitioadinfinitum on October 9, 2007 at 10:51 AM
Spitzer just wants to see his face on national TV

This video is no longer available? Nooooooooooo!!!

It looks like some party in New York needs to start an “Article 78″ review.
Maxx on October 9, 2007 at 11:05 AM
I thought Spitzer would give these wonderful illegals a condo in town, a summer home in the Hamptons and a couple hundred G’s to get them going in their new land. You know, make them feel comfortable - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!
countywolf on October 9, 2007 at 11:06 AM
Then provide them with a HazMat license.
Miss_Anthrope on October 9, 2007 at 11:09 AM
Kind of like the $2,600 and freedom the Saudis gave their brave Gitmo Jihad fighters that returned from fighting the evil Americans?
abinitioadinfinitum on October 9, 2007 at 11:23 AM
what does it matter what Spitzer does and if it’s illegal or not? He’s a democrat, and nothing matters to them except party, power and money. Nothing will happen to him.
darwin on October 9, 2007 at 11:26 AM
Why stop even there? With states like Texas that have “motor voter” laws, they can now VOTE, too. It’s like making them defacto U.S. Citizens.
Absurd.
pullingmyhairout on October 9, 2007 at 11:28 AM
O/T, but do you are Michelle ever sleep?

Section 1324 of the Imm. and Nat. Act would seem to also cover the “count’em as citizens” Boxer Amendment.

Allahpundit earlier had posted on a different thread: “58% of New Yorkers oppose driver’s licenses for illegals.”
While we can applaud that even in deep blue state like New York, a majority opposes rewarding illegal aliens with the gift of driver’s licenses, the poll itself is extremely troubling.
If 58% of New Yorkers oppose Eliot Spitzer’s plan, does that mean that 42% are actually in favor of it?
I am not sure.
Maybe a small percentage are undecided. Maybe another percentage will say, “not sure.” But then again, maybe it is quite possible that a high number, in a deep blue state like New York, actually do FAVOR the governor’s plan?
What does that say about where our culture is heading?
What does that say about the complete disrespect for the rule of law?
That people would actually favor rewarding illegal behavior is mind-boggling.
When we give people who are here illegally driver’s licenses, in effect, we are condoning and accepting their illegal behavior.
Suppose I get pulled over for speeding. And I tell the officer, “I do not want a fine. I drove at an illegal rate of speed. But I do not want the penalty. I do not want the penalty though I want the benefits of being able to drive wherever and whenever and at whatever speeds I choose.”
Of course the officer will then ticket me, and rightly so.
Or suppose I choose not to purchase car insurance, and I then choose to drive illegally.
The rule of law stipulates that we enforce the laws, no matter how unpleasant or how unpopular these laws may seem at times.
Society will descend quickly into chaos, when the governing authorities reward illegal behavior.

Unfortunately, you’re right. Pity, because here’s a case for impeachment if I ever say one.
georgej on October 9, 2007 at 11:44 AM
Oh, they’re suffering! The humanity! I must repent of my immorality!
If I hear one more politician side-slap ME for MY “immorality,” I think I’ll go postal. Time to invest in a mirror.
Sick ‘em, Lou!

This is a Spitzer, Cuomo, Clinton trifecta.
Spitzer gives the illegals licenses by “executive order”, Clinton gets all the newly licensed illegals and Andrew Cuomo (NYS Attorney General) wont do a thing perhaps because Spitzer promised him Clinton’s vacant senate seat.
In NY the Gov. fills a vacant senate seat until the next election which in the case of Hillary’s seat would be 2010.
And don’t forget.. in NY like other states you REGISTER to VOTE WHEN YOU GET OR RENEW YOUR LICENSE!

Eliot Shitzer - Governor - Atty General - Lawyer. Now why should he know the law or even care? He is above all that. Remember after all he is for the little people. Have people forgotten how he sent Martha Stewart to prison and helped the little people when hundreds lost jobs and thousands lost money in the market? He is a POS!

Yeah, your fed law excerpt was a good one. I mentioned NYS Code Section 502 regarding the SSN requirement in that same Spitzer-License thread here at HA.
I’ve been surprised that NY pols who were up in arms about this hadn’t used either of those issues as arguments.

Poll:
1)Secession of the American southwest?
2)Ethnic civil war?
3)Middle-class emigration?
4)none of the above?
PRCalDude on October 9, 2007 at 12:32 PM
I wonder in NY governors can be impeached.
Iblis on October 9, 2007 at 12:40 PM
Make these special licenses a matter of public record.
Color them red for easy identification.
Then ICE can use them as a round up tool for illegals.

What’s next? Concealed Carry for people who knock over convenience stores?

Man. When Lou Dobbs hits the nail on the head, he drives it home with one smack!
That was a beautiful thing.
So, in his mind, it’s ethical to give criminal ILLEGAL immigrants with no proof of identity and presenting false Social Security numbers (ie: Identity Theft - an American citizen out there somewhere is victimized for the personal profit of an illegal alien) NY State driver’s licenses… and it’s wise to be an enabler for potential terrorists? No. Of course not.
Oh, I see then. He wants to rebuild New York’s economy on the backs of illegal immigrants and he’s enabling THEM to be there to do it for him. Well, hey, he’s not so stupid after all. That’s thinking outside the box!
Eliot Spitzer is the Governor of an entire State (think about that), and he’s also a DEMOCRAT that more than likely has his eyes on the prize. At his relatively young age he could definitely have aspirations to go on to Congress. He governs a good sized well populated state that’s also home to the metropolis where the most horrific act of terrorist aggression that ever took place on American soil in history nearly brought this country to its knees, and still might in the long run, and he has no comprehension of what he is doing?
Training wheels… indeed!
SilverStar830 on October 9, 2007 at 1:14 PM
“This is a governor who requires training wheels.”
Spitzer deals a terrible blow to the reputation of State Attorney General’s office as training wheels.
Dusty on October 9, 2007 at 1:35 PM
Spitzer became governor by virtue of making up new crimes for businessmen–crimes that do help our economy work any better. It’s a pity that while he held businessmen to a standard so high that they were criminals for making honest mistakes, Spitzer can flout the laws. We can at least fantasize about Spitzer being judged by the measure that he judged others.

5.) Balkanization of USA
6.) South Africa-ization of USA caused by exponential growth of Third World culture and its refusal to assimilate, leading to even greater economic disparity, and the gradual elimination of the middle class (due to results of over-taxation to pay for growing Welfare State).
ColtsFan on October 9, 2007 at 2:51 PM
He abused his office while Attorney General, and now he’s abusing his power as governor. Big surprise, there.

While reading this one thought came to mind: where do you think our esteemed Pres. Bush will stand on this issue ? I am willing to give good odds that he will be all for it.
