Comedy gold: New weapon introduced into World of Warcraft

posted at 2:12 pm on October 8, 2007 by Allahpundit

Only two days old and already twice as many views as the immortal Leeroy Jenkins clip. I don’t want to raise expectations too much, but the catchphrase at the end here has an outside shot at “All Your Base Are Belong To Us” status.

Admittedly, an exceedingly high bar to clear.

Blowback

I think they are up 9 million subscribers or something outrageous like that now.

lorien1973 on October 8, 2007 at 2:15 PM

Short answer?

Yeah.

ScottMcC on October 8, 2007 at 2:22 PM

“Four Wheels of Fury”? Sounds like a low-budget Hong Kong martial arts flick.

ReubenJCogburn on October 8, 2007 at 2:22 PM

My WOW playing husband showed me this at 6 AM this morning. He was that excited about it. The voices are perfect in this spot.

Stormy70 on October 8, 2007 at 2:23 PM

WoW. A waste of 2 years of my life.

I’ve moved on to Hellgate London…which is in beta right now, and it’s by the guys who did Diablo, so it’s a very different kind of MMORPG. Not as much grinding.

StoutRepublican on October 8, 2007 at 2:23 PM

Plus, I own my own Toyota “four wheels of fury”.

Stormy70 on October 8, 2007 at 2:23 PM

Not surprising that the Alliance would drive an import.

TBinSTL on October 8, 2007 at 2:33 PM

Would this be considered as Witch or War Craft

Kini on October 8, 2007 at 2:41 PM

ZOMG, that’s a not a weapon it’s a mount you freaking n00b!!11!1!

Also, WTF is Nef doing wandering around Azshara? Guess he got bored now that nobody ever visits him in Blackwing Lair anymore…

Eh, more like comedy electrum.

JohnW on October 8, 2007 at 2:44 PM

So, AP. Do you play WOW?

harrison on October 8, 2007 at 2:45 PM

bj1126 on October 8, 2007 at 2:18 PM

That number is a bit confusing, though, as many of those accounts are Asian players who pay a (low) hourly rate rather than a monthly flat-fee subscription like American and other western customers. Also, many individuals own more than one account.

Obviously Blizzard doesn’t make public their actual numbers or the details of their account demographics. But there’s no question there are a lot of WoW players out there. And on stations like, say, Comedy Central the add has a good chance of hitting a viewership that will get the joke.

Blacklake on October 8, 2007 at 2:49 PM

“Did you see me lay down the law…I am the LAW GIVE-AAH!”

No cigar

Zug Zug… For the Horde!!!

Romeo13 on October 8, 2007 at 2:51 PM

Tears of laughter streaming down face now ….

:))

I don’t know what’s funnier, the guy whining that “there are no trucks in World of Warcraft”, or the other guy proclaiming “I am zee law givuh!!!!”

thirteen28 on October 8, 2007 at 2:52 PM

They were making fun of Warcraft in the last episode of Stargate Atlantis. WOOT! l33t Stargate geeks FTW! Warcraft geeks FTL!1!!one

BohicaTwentyTwo on October 8, 2007 at 2:53 PM

Didn’t Blizzard make the diablo series as well as WOW?

Tomahawk on October 8, 2007 at 2:54 PM

Diablo and Starcraft. They’ve been rather a successful enterprise.

Blacklake on October 8, 2007 at 2:59 PM

Romeo13 on October 8, 2007 at 2:51 PM

That’s about as far as I go. I loved warcraft 1 and 2. The last I didn’t like cuz it was so limiting, how many guys you could make. Never played WOW myself, my brother does though. I refuse to get sucked into online crap.

lorien1973 on October 8, 2007 at 3:01 PM

You mean it’s made by Blizzard, the people who make WoW?

/confused

DaveS on October 8, 2007 at 3:01 PM

I started playing WoW… I like it, but after a couple of weeks I’m just like “whatever”. I never got addicted…

DaveS on October 8, 2007 at 3:02 PM

Yes, but the developers who were part of Diablo left Blizzard to make their own studio, Flagship.

StoutRepublican on October 8, 2007 at 3:02 PM

Article:

Industry veteran Bill Roper is now CEO of Hellgate: London developer Flagship Studios, but prior to this he hung his hat at Blizzard, where he had a major hand in the Diablo RPG series.

StoutRepublican on October 8, 2007 at 3:05 PM

Never played it, out of fear it would end my academic and social lives, but if they’re putting trucks in it…

Meric1837 on October 8, 2007 at 3:09 PM

I didn’t LOL like I did at Leeeeeeroooooyyy Jeeeeennnnkiinnnns.

SouthernDem on October 8, 2007 at 3:15 PM

HA! For someone who has never played (and never will) I found that as priceless.

For all you fantasy types: Scifi is where its at!

Darnell Clayton on October 8, 2007 at 3:17 PM

Leeeerroooyyyy Jenkins.

At least he had chicken.

Hoodlumman on October 8, 2007 at 3:21 PM

Meh. It’s no “L J”.

MikeZero on October 8, 2007 at 3:32 PM

The only thing better than that is the Epic Brewfest Ram + Pony Keg combo.

I got my pony keg. Only 100 tickets to go for my epic ram, boyee.

Mindcrime on October 8, 2007 at 3:55 PM

Laugh at leroy all you want; but do you have a wikipedia entry?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leeroy_Jenkins

:P

lorien1973 on October 8, 2007 at 3:57 PM

I love videogames, but I just have no desire to play WoW. I just want to play a game; I don’t want to talk to people.

frankj on October 8, 2007 at 4:27 PM

Epic quality. LJ was legendary ftw.

-70 Shadow priest.

Static on October 8, 2007 at 4:28 PM

Rawr!

frreal on October 8, 2007 at 4:39 PM

I’ll have the epic ram in a day or so. Then I’ll be trying to get enough tickets for the pony keg and the goggles.

33 tickets on the Keg race is my highest on Horde.

Asher on October 8, 2007 at 4:44 PM

Asher on October 8, 2007 at 4:44 PM

I like the horde keg run more than the alliance one – it’s easier. But your barker quests have the suckier route.

Mindcrime on October 8, 2007 at 4:46 PM

Is the video about someone touching Sen. Craig’s ass? “Seize the ass toucher!”

andycanuck on October 8, 2007 at 5:54 PM

I saw the LJ video a long time ago, and I didn’t think it was all that funny.

Is this a Toyota ad? I watch a lot of CC, but I haven’t seen it. Is the humor a reference to something else, or is it another case of me “getting” it, but thinking it’s not all that particularly funny?

urbancenturion on October 8, 2007 at 5:58 PM

Go outside and play, for the love of God.

spec_ops_mateo on October 8, 2007 at 6:15 PM

That and the leroy clip just convinced me which candidate to vote for.

csdeven on October 8, 2007 at 6:34 PM

Rented.

Tanya on October 8, 2007 at 8:05 PM

Many of us have grown weary of WoW. On 2 November, the new adventure begins:

http://www.rgtr.com/about_the_game/features/what_is_tabula_rasa.html

The opening scene of this reminds me what will happen if Herr Hillary is elected POTUS.

Change is what we need, a new start, a fresh beginning!

Long live the Fighters!

Wuptdo on October 8, 2007 at 8:07 PM

Given NCSoft’s complete incompetence at the design of its flagship City of Heroes/Villains franchise, Tabula Rasa will in all probability turn out to be an extremely pretty pile of lukewarm dogshit.

Centerfire on October 8, 2007 at 8:13 PM

Funny, but not lol…

City of Heroes could have been great (sigh).

Coastian on October 8, 2007 at 10:25 PM

They should use that as a truck commercial.

Mojave Mark on October 9, 2007 at 1:18 AM

I drive a Pontiac Wave.

It’s my front-wheel drive of restrained frustration.

lorien1973 on October 8, 2007 at 2:15 PM

Short answer?

Yeah.

ScottMcC on October 8, 2007 at 2:22 PM

Real answer: No, it made absolutely no sense. Is it a Chevy comercial? If so, what does a video game have to do with Wendy O. Williams?

srhoades on October 9, 2007 at 11:03 AM

Well with over 10 million subs, they are getting into the mainstream, imho.

I’ve played it.
