Barbara Boxer maneuvers to have more illegals included in 2010 census

posted at 5:32 pm on October 8, 2007 by Allahpundit

I’m missing something obvious here, I’m sure, but doesn’t this mainly benefit reddish southern states?

U.S. states with large numbers of undocumented immigrants could receive additional seats in Congress after the 2010 census is conducted.

A University of Connecticut study concluded Arizona, Texas and Florida could all see their House delegations increase due to rising populations that include sizable numbers of illegal immigrants…

The Connecticut study also predicted California and New Jersey would likely keep their current number of seats while states with fewer immigrants, including New York, Illinois and Ohio, will lose a seat or two.

It seems like this is less some nefarious plan to move House seats nationwide from the red to the blue column than a bid by Boxer to leverage the huge population of illegals in her home state to protect its own House representation at the expense of other Democratic population centers. Exit question: What am I missing?

Update: Super-devious Kausian hypothetical: Boxer wants the representation of reddish states with huge illegal populations increased in 2010 in anticipation of a mass amnesty in the second half of Hillary’s term that will turn those states deep purple after illegals suddenly gain the right to vote! Genius.

Update: What about population outflow?

Blowback

Nothing.

If her plan doesn’t work, then they’ll take it to the courts and cry about the children not having adequate representation…….

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on October 8, 2007 at 5:35 PM

gotta combine it with the motor voter law for it to make sense, I think.

Super-devious Kausian hypothetical

Nice deviousness, but its not necessary. Since you can register to vote when you get your license; granting illegals a license gives them voting rights as well. Citizens or not.

Problem – illegals haven’t been voting. So your net affect is really more seats for red states without added blue members, right?

lorien1973 on October 8, 2007 at 5:41 PM

Arizona is already a purple state.

bnelson44 on October 8, 2007 at 5:45 PM

Its all about California.

Whoever says California does not have more Illegals than they did 10 years ago also agrees with the govenment numbers on inflation….

Add in that Red states are enforcing Immigration laws, whild blue states are not… and just where do you think the illegals will move to?

Remember, this is NOT next year…

Boxer’s not very bright. I’m sure she thinks that California will benefit.

this is why the 2008 election is so important, the winners get to draw up the districts for the next decade in most states. Especially if Governship is at stake.

Haven’t they? Wasn’t that the reason why some Dems were crying about making voters show their IDs?

I just watched a video called “Shift happens” and in the video it claims “China will soon become the number one english speaking country in the world.”

What are we leaving our children?

Where is our representation? Oh, out to lunch at a Mexican restaurant on my dime.

Not according to what I’ve read:

http://www.cato.org/testimony/ct-js031401.html

“Motor Voter” has also failed to increase voting turnout.

I think the democrats keep hoping they’ll turn out; but they don’t.

“China will soon become the number one english speaking country in the world.”

We have 30% of china’s population. Of course they’ll become the biggest. Doesn’t help that their citizens are learning english; while ours are not though.

In the states, the new congressional districts will drawn using the same census. Red districts will be filled with voting citizens. Blue districts will be filled with non-voting illegals. It will take fewer votes to elect a Democrat in a district with few actual voters, and more votes to elect a Republican.

Here in CA it would shock you how few votes Fabian Nunez actually needs to stay in office.

Boxer is a vile vile woman and will stop at nothing to further her political carrer. She will sell her own country in a second.

She will sell her own country in a second.

I think that sums up the whole party. IMHO.

lorien1973 on October 8, 2007 at 6:13 PM

There are already millions of illegals in the current census count. It only really makes a difference if they start voting. Theoretically, they are not allowed to vote.

A conservative government would push to find who is here illegally via the census process. It is much less intrusive than the thorough anal exam form I received in the mail in 2000.

Valiant on October 8, 2007 at 6:15 PM

Its not the illegal effect but attempts to cover up voter Fraud

The idea is to so overwhelm voter rolls to sneak in fraudulent voters. Its a slieght of hand distraction from the fraud that rolls out of mostly black neighborhoods like in Philly and Cleveland. For example Cuyahoga County here in Ohio has seen numberous attempts to commit voter fraud. By making the republicans spend more time inspecting voters in red states they perpetuate the fraud in toss up states

Not so. If they are counted in the census to create districts, they get equal representation. Think of certain districts in East LA. It is mostly illegals with a handful of voters. Those handful of voters make the decision for the entire district — and those handful are going to be left leaning latinos.

Look at these election results. It takes 60,000 to 75,000 votes to elect a Republican in the CA assembly. It only takes 30,000 to elect Fabian Nunez. Actually, it would only take one vote, because he was the only SOB to get a vote in his district. That’s right. He and Saddan Hussain are the only politicians to be elected with 100% of the votes.

tommylotto on October 8, 2007 at 6:23 PM

I’m guessing this has less to do with rigging votes than it does with trying to increase the transfer of federal funds to her state. That’s one area in which California would surely benefit from including illegals in the census, while the preemptive rigging of 2012 or 2016 election results seems too clever by half (especially for Boxer.) Follow the money.

Duh.

Do you really put it past the Democrats? Are illegals going to recieve universal healthcare? No of course not. Hand out amnesty and they aren’t illegal. A Hilary Presidency will co-opt the Hispanic vote blatantly, to much fanfare from the left. Same thing that happened to the Black vote in the mid ’60′s.

Theworldisnotenough on October 8, 2007 at 6:57 PM

What really gets my goat is the dimocraps will work as hard as they can for the illegal’s to vote and just as hard to keep active military personnel from voting.

AP — I apologize for my BBoxer outburst earlier. She just makes me so angry. I’ll be more prudent going forward.
