Keep in mind how Balboni got his job. He was a Republican state Senator who represented a Democratic majority district. The NYS Senate has been trending Democrat lately and they want control. So, Spitzer nominates a marginal Republican to an Executive branch position and in the special election…a Democrat wins the seat. And now the Democrats are one seat closer to controlling the whole government.
The fact that he’s as lousy on security as Spitzer is is just an added bonus.

When the newscaster notes that there is a road safety issue in that illegals without licenses get into fatal accidents at a rate of 5 times greater than… they don’t say what it is greater than…but obviously issuing licenses to them will automatically make them safer drivers.

This guy is of course a moron. The 9-11 hijackers needed drivers licenses so they could get on the planes to hijack them, so some of those who didn’t already have licenses obtained them, and they used the route that illegal aliens use to get the licenses because it was the path of least resistance. Thus, the fact that illegals can easily obtain drivers licenses facilitated 9-11. We need to make it impossible for illegals to get drivers licenses, not easier.
By his logic, we ought to carpet bomb Waziristan with NY driverse licenses. That way, when they next attack occurs, we’ll be able to figure out who did it in a snap.
Thousands or hundreds of thousands will be dead, of course, but at least we’ll be able to complete all the paperwork.

Absolutely, positively the most absurd argument in support of King Eliot’s plan offered to date. Sorry, but I am not persuaded to support Spitzer’s plan because Michael Balboni thinks “Citizens as bait” is a way to keep him from losing his three donut breaks for a while after the next terrorist attack.

That’s just great, instead of preventing illegals from getting ID so they can board an airplane in the first place, Michael Balboni of New York Homeland Security wants to make sure they have ID and can board airplanes, so they can identify them AFTER they kill a bunch of people.
This is not so much a reflection of what an idiot Michael Balboni is, as a reflection of what idiots he thinks WE are. He should have been fired yesterday.

So this “Rocky” Balboni as the NY Homeland Security Chief needs drivers’ licenses to identify terrorists? Wow, if I lived in NY it would be such a load off my mind to know that someone that competent was in charge of my security.
Why stop at illegals already in the U.S., though. Let’s issue ID cards to the whole world and tell them they’re going to need the ID card BEFORE they can immigrate here illegally.

1. If this is an example of Spitzer’s thinking, what about the long list of cases he prosecuted, and those cases which he DIDN’T??? Scary.
2. Statistical correlation. Idiots get this wrong all the time. Correlation does not prove cause and effect – in either direction. If illegal “immigrants” without licenses are 5 times as likely to cause fatal accidents, maybe it is not the piece of paper that causes the safer driving of licensed illegal “immigrants”. Maybe it is the same character trait that causes safer driving that makes them get a license.
Those who use crappy logic to faciliate underground terrorists deserve what they get. Unfortunately, powerful officials using crappy logic can get LOTS of other people killed.

At a higher level, I think this case illustrates that the inability to exclude illegal immigrants and our inability to fight Islam are not really separate phenomenon, but both are symptoms of an idiotic inability to say “no”.

Now, I offer a compromise.
Here in KS, to help bartenders and store clerks avoid selling alcoholic beverages or tobacco products to underage buyers, licenses issued to people under 21 are in ‘portrait’ orientation (vertical) rather than the traditional ‘landscape’ (horizontal). They also have a bar under the picture that says “NOT 18 UNTIL MM-DD-YYYY” in white on green, or “NOT 21 UNTIL MM-DD-YYYY” in white on red.
I suggest that a we use this idea for non-citizens as well; rotate the orientation for either aliens or those too young to purchase alcohol. Leave the lower bar for age, and display a similar bar at the top of the picture, so that it’s identifying the person, as the DHS guy wants, but also disclosing the citizenship status. I’m thinking something like
MEX ALIEN MEX
in a nice tricolor of white-on-green, black-on-white, and white-on-red.
Canadian aliens could have
CAN ALIEN CAN
in white-on-red, red-on-white, and white-on-red, etc.

Well,,, I can think of an even better statistic,,, 100% of illegal immigrants stopped at the border or arrested and deported will not be on the roads in the first place and will not cause any accidents at all!
