You know, one of these with a black surface instead of the nasty beige used in this demo model might be half cool in a over-the-top geeky way. I’d love to see how my cat reacts to it.

Sure, Microsoft can make some fancy table, but this one comes with a cat!

That is kinda cool, but you are right, dark glass would be much better.

Now available as a kit in two sizes and prices. They do have a nice $50 black option – exactly what you were thinking of Bryan!
Go here and roll up to top of page to explore kit details.
It is theoretically possible to cause eye damage when looking directly into intense LEDs from a short distance. That’s why I’m thinking a lightly smoked glass might be ideal over the LEDs, if young kids are in the home… or a cat!

This is one of those things that I would really like to have, but I’m way too energy conscious to use even if I did.

Cool,in the first twenty seconds it looks like
B-52’s(no, not rock lobster)doing a night run with
five hundred pounders,or the power grid in many
cities going off line as seen from the space shuttle.

How incredibly useless.

Kinda looks like a Radio Shack circuit board kit from the ’80s.

Radioactive glowing kitty can has half-life.

Badger – uses as little as 40 watts for panels that are 7 square feet with 480 LEDs on board. At 10 cents per kWh, you could run it for 2.5 hours at an electric cost of one cent.

Reality Check People!
This is kinda cool right now. Will it still be cool when you can get one at the local Tar-Mart that has the ability to pulsate in green and red to Christmas carols? Don’t think so!

Well jeeze AP, after a day alone on that your cat will probably look something like this.
csdeven on October 5, 2007 at 10:29 PM
But if your goal is to scare a cat, there are better ways.

I Want One! That way I’ll have something else to watch besides the spin cycle on the washer.

I’d love to see how

Now we know what AP looks like!
conservnut on October 5, 2007 at 11:34 PM
Groovy baby.
Mojave Mark on October 5, 2007 at 11:49 PM
Maybe useful as a dance floor for acrobatic nudists.
Otherwise, it’ll just inspire a stoner to look up at the night sky, after diddling with this table all evening long, and say (in their best Keanu Reeve voice):
Whoa! It’s the same thing, dude!
profitsbeard on October 6, 2007 at 12:58 AM
Yeah, but this cat isn’t reacting to it.. he’s chasing a string. Get a flashlight though, and have some fun. Hell, do the flashlight trick with a 1 year old (human) and it can entertaining.
RightWinged on October 6, 2007 at 1:39 AM
I should sue you for making me look at that. :-)

I am waiting for the first law suit by an epileptic because the coffee table caused their seizer.
tailor made for the silky pony.

Whatever you do, don’t take it to Boston!!

Microsoft Table can do that too, for only $20,000!

Some people really need to put the LSD away and finally arrive out of the 60’s. Is this the most we can expect from technology? Although, “far out”, as it may be, it’s utterly useless to anyone but the chronically stoned.
thedecider on October 6, 2007 at 11:40 PM
I think the point is that the level of technology to create this, using off-the-shelf programmable microcontrollers and desktop software, is so pedestrian here in The Future that this kind of stuff is almost trivial to make as opposed to 20 years ago.
Neo on October 7, 2007 at 12:21 PM
I think I’m going to do all of my furniture up like that.
Except maybe my bed.
