I have a co-worker that lives in the Bronx,

Back in 2004 he rented a car (the night of game 4 of the WS) for a trip in the morning, he parked it 2 blocks away from his apartment.

When he woke up the next morning every window was smashed.

He called the NYPD, they came out and handed him a police report (needed for insurance), he asked them if they were going to dust for fingerprints etc….

The cop just looked at him at said…

You parked a car, in the Bronx, with Mass plates, the night the Red-Sox won the world series what did you expect?

Roughly three times a year I go to liberal Massachusetts for a weekend party. Coincidentally the Yankees are almost always playing the Red Sox that weekend. Not once did I hear any Yankees put down; they just cheered their team on. Even when the Red Sox won the World Series did they not rub it in.

Civility, what a concept.

The only thing worse than a Noo Yawk Yankees fan is a Bahstan Red Sawks fan.

While I will always root for the Red Sox, after their Series win, they almost became as insufferable as the Yankee fans. Yeah, Red Sox Nation, we get it. Nothing like hearing a bunch of bandwagon nitwits cheering their “beloved Sox” at a Mariners game. (Before anyone starts ripping the Ms, yes I know, they have never been to a World Series and have only played for a pennant once.)

I despise the glorified Yankee/Sox coverage on ESPN and I’m a Stankees fan. I wouldn’t hold it against any fan of any other team that was sick and tired of seeing the same thing, over and over again, Sox-Yankees, Yankees-Sox, blah blah blah blah blah…

It’s unfortunate that so many knowledgeable and enthusiastic baseball fans think that there are teams in only three cities. I realize that NYC, Boston and Chicago are the traditional major markets in the United States, but I think the sports media pays way to much attention to the teams in these towns. It’s always about what the Yankees and Red Sox are doing with the leitmotif of the Cubs perennial fruitless quest for the golden ring. In those years when the Mets are competitive, like this year, there is more attention paid to them than equally or more successful teams in other cities.

If Cleveland goes on to win a third game against the Yankees, more attention will be paid by the national sports media to the failure of the Yankees in ’06 and ’07, than to the successes of the Tigers and Indians.

You don’t have to bash someone else to support who you want. Root for your team, not against someone else.

And those bugs weren’t from God- they’re from CANADA. They’re known as Canadian Soldiers. They don’t send soldiers to the Middle East but they’re OK with a deployment in Cleveland!

TO be fair – Canada has soldiers in the Middle East – in Afghanistan. But, not in Iraq.

Though I’m not sure how much longer they’ll have soldiers in Afghanistan. A lot of people support withdrawal.

You may be right that the practice is more widespread than the NFL will let on. Perhaps the Patriots were just the most blatant abusers, so they took the fall. Since the NFL is sitting on the ‘investigation,’ we may never know.

The NFL is riding high right now. The last thing the owners want is a league-wide scandal that drives fans away. Since the owners share in TV and merchandise revenue, they don’t want any hint of funny business to stop the money stream.

Either the problem is league-wide and they are quashing it before it gets out of hand, or it is a few teams and the owners are handling it in-house and telling the Patriots to knock it off or else.

As I have said in two comments now, the NFL destroyed the tapes so we won’t know to what extent the Pats were relying on stolen signals to use to their advantage. But their video cameraman was on the sidelines for at least two seasons. Some of the other teams knew what was going on. In Chicago, the Bears had the video guy removed from the field to protect their team.

Can you honestly say that the NFL reviewed the tapes and files and said ‘oh there’s nothing here; let’s take away their first round draft pick’? That is an unprecedented move for an “misdemeanor” offense.

So let’s say Brady’s in the huddle and he had information that the defense is planning a safety blitz. They call a play that has a receiver’s route in the area vacated by the safety. Brady doesn’t need a lot of time in the face of the blitz; his first read is to that location.

If this sign stealing practice goes on for a few seasons, Bellichick has a nice file of signs for each team. Going into the game, they already are at an advantage over the other team.

Nobody has explained why, if the Patriots are such a powerhouse of a team, Bellichick needed to employ such tactics. How much sense does it make to steal signs and then not use the information because ‘we’re so good, we don’t need it.’
