Are we about to see A-Rod cement his reputation as the biggest choke artist in postseason history?

Heh heh heh... Mr. 4 for 47 in the postseason.

Allah, any chance of the '03 ALCS photoshops ever seeing the light of day again? That was some of the funniest stuff in the history of the 'tubes.

Sounds better than this. Red Sox fan brutally assaulted in Yonkers (10min. from Yankee Stadium). Yankee fan myself, but pray this guy is OK. Sick M-F’s.

JiangxiDad on October 6, 2007 at 5:53 PM

I have a co-worker that lives in the Bronx,

Back in 2004 he rented a car (the night of game 4 of the WS) for a trip in the morning, he parked it 2 blocks away from his apartment.

When he woke up the next morning every window was smashed.

He called the NYPD, they came out and handed him a police report (needed for insurance), he asked them if they were going to dust for fingerprints etc....

The cop just looked at him at said...

You parked a car, in the Bronx, with Mass plates, the night the Red-Sox won the world series what did you expect?

Roughly three times a year I go to liberal Massachusetts for a weekend party. Coincidentally the Yankees are almost always playing the Red Sox that weekend. Not once did I hear any Yankees put down; they just cheered their team on. Even when the Red Sox won the World Series did they not rub it in.

Civility, what a concept.

Go Yankees!

The only thing worse than a Noo Yawk Yankees fan is a Bahstan Red Sawks fan.

While I will always root for the Red Sox, after their Series win, they almost became as insufferable as the Yankee fans. Yeah, Red Sox Nation, we get it. Nothing like hearing a bunch of bandwagon nitwits cheering their "beloved Sox" at a Mariners game. (Before anyone starts ripping the Ms, yes I know, they have never been to a World Series and have only played for a pennant once.)

"The only thing worse than a Noo Yawk Yankees fan is a Bahstan Red Sawks fan. God, how I hate both of those teams and the fact that ESPN spends 90% of their baseball coverage talking about them. If by some miracle they face each other in the ALCS I think I’ll root for nuclear war. It’s like choosing between Hillary or Bill as to which is the worst Clinton.

Frank Nitti"

I despise the glorified Yankee/Sox coverage on ESPN and I'm a Stankees fan. I wouldn't hold it against any fan of any other team that was sick and tired of seeing the same thing, over and over again, Sox-Yankees, Yankees-Sox, blah blah blah blah blah...

Oh btw-if that Truther Mark Cuban buys my beloved club I'm switching to the Astros.
I supported my Cubs even through a year-June '06 to June '07-living St. Louis-but that I can't accept.
As Tevye would say..."there IS no other hand"

I'm sorry Jaibones, but I'd rather root for the Deadbirds-er Cardinals-than the White Sux.
Actually that's the only time I do root for them-when they play the South Siders.

So, do think we'll stay alive or will we get fatally "snakebit" tonight.
I am NOT optimistic.

The Indians have this series pretty much wrapped up...but then again, the Mets had the NL East wrapped up with 16 games to go.

All you Yankee haters might want to listen to the eternal wisdom of Winston Wolf before definitively burying them. Then again, this isn't the first time the Empire has been left for dead this year.

P.S.... Red Sox swallow.

Though I do admit to a personal animus against the Yankees. In 1961, when I was a little boy discovering baseball, the Tigers won 101 games, normally enough to win a pennant in pre-playoff MLB. They had a pretty good team with Norm Cash winning the batting title, Hall of Famer Al Kaline, and lefty Frank Lary, who so mastered the Yankee's powerful batting lineup that he was nicknamed The Yankee Killer. In head to head competition, I think the Yankees (with Maris, Mantle, Ford etc.) just slightly had the advantage 10-8. But New York won a remarkable 109 games that year, and the Tigers had to settle for second place.

So when the Yankees stumble in the post season, it's just ducky with me. Last year was delicious.

Speaking as a Red-Sox fan….

Then again, I’m a Mets fan

I’m a Cub fan (I know),

As a Yankee’s fan

It's unfortunate that so many knowledgeable and enthusiastic baseball fans think that there are teams in only three cities. I realize that NYC, Boston and Chicago are the traditional major markets in the United States, but I think the sports media pays way to much attention to the teams in these towns. It's always about what the Yankees and Red Sox are doing with the leitmotif of the Cubs perennial fruitless quest for the golden ring. In those years when the Mets are competitive, like this year, there is more attention paid to them than equally or more successful teams in other cities.

If Cleveland goes on to win a third game against the Yankees, more attention will be paid by the national sports media to the failure of the Yankees in '06 and '07, than to the successes of the Tigers and Indians.

And those bugs weren’t from God- they’re from CANADA. They’re known as Canadian Soldiers. They don’t send soldiers to the Middle East but they’re OK with a deployment in Cleveland!

TO be fair - Canada has soldiers in the Middle East - in Afghanistan. But, not in Iraq.

Though I'm not sure how much longer they'll have soldiers in Afghanistan. A lot of people support withdrawal.

The Yaaaaankeeeees Looose
I,ve always been a Yankee hater since the days that they kept beating my Royals in the 70's. My opinion is that Steinbrener has forever ruined baseball for the small market teams with his big money and I relish the thought that the more money he spends to win another title, the more the Yankees choke. Oh by the way, how many people (other than Yankee fans) actually watched that lame mini-series on ESPN about the 70's Yankees?

Does everything always have to revolve around Cleveland? Couldn't the Yankees just get a mention without having to ride on Cleveland's coattails?

geckomon on October 6, 2007 at 11:08 AM

You may be right that the practice is more widespread than the NFL will let on. Perhaps the Patriots were just the most blatant abusers, so they took the fall. Since the NFL is sitting on the 'investigation,' we may never know.

The NFL is riding high right now. The last thing the owners want is a league-wide scandal that drives fans away. Since the owners share in TV and merchandise revenue, they don't want any hint of funny business to stop the money stream.

Either the problem is league-wide and they are quashing it before it gets out of hand, or it is a few teams and the owners are handling it in-house and telling the Patriots to knock it off or else.

As I have said in two comments now, the NFL destroyed the tapes so we won't know to what extent the Pats were relying on stolen signals to use to their advantage. But their video cameraman was on the sidelines for at least two seasons. Some of the other teams knew what was going on. In Chicago, the Bears had the video guy removed from the field to protect their team.

Can you honestly say that the NFL reviewed the tapes and files and said 'oh there's nothing here; let's take away their first round draft pick'? That is an unprecedented move for an "misdemeanor" offense.

So let's say Brady's in the huddle and he had information that the defense is planning a safety blitz. They call a play that has a receiver's route in the area vacated by the safety. Brady doesn't need a lot of time in the face of the blitz; his first read is to that location.

If this sign stealing practice goes on for a few seasons, Bellichick has a nice file of signs for each team. Going into the game, they already are at an advantage over the other team.

Nobody has explained why, if the Patriots are such a powerhouse of a team, Bellichick needed to employ such tactics. How much sense does it make to steal signs and then not use the information because 'we're so good, we don't need it.'

The only thing worse than a Noo Yawk Yankees fan is a Bahstan Red Sawks fan. God, how I hate both of those teams and the fact that ESPN spends 90% of their baseball coverage talking about them. If by some miracle they face each other in the ALCS I think I'll root for nuclear war. It's like choosing between Hillary or Bill as to which is the worst Clinton.

Those Hot young studs in the Arizona desert are going to run roughshod all over your NL teams.
USC will continue to dominate college football.

Careful. If Michelle will no longer deal with BoingBoing, I may no longer deal with Hot Air if you continue to bash my Yankees. Stop being Liberal. You don't have to bash someone else to support who you want. Root for your team, not against someone else.

Go Yankees!
