Saudi Arabia: The land where Christians can’t bring their Bibles, and where conversion to any religion from Islam can earn a death sentence. They’re going to complain to Europe about Muslims’ lack of religious freedom there.
Seriously.
RIYADH, 4 October 2007 — Saudi Arabia’s Human Rights Commission (HRC) will urge its counterparts in the European Union to ask their governments not to link terrorism to Islam and also to issue regulations to protect Muslims from prejudice and discrimination because of their faith.
According to a source at HRC, the government-funded rights body will also address various human rights issues in Europe: when Muslims are unjustly interrogated, treated with disrespect, physically or mentally abused, or not allowed to practice their faith freely such as Muslim girls being prevented from wearing the hijab (head cover) in some schools.
The country where this sign adorns a major highway in its holiest city:

Is going to lecture others about religious freedom.
The country that doesn’t allow Christians to build churches at all is going to lecture others about religious freedom. The country with the frickin Sword of Allah on its flag is going to make noise about European religious tolerance. The country that gave us Osama bin Laden and 15 of the 19 9-11 hijackers, who killed 3,000 of us in the name of Allah, is really going to complain about the freedom of Muslims in Europe.
Seriously?
There’s a word for an attitude like this: Chutzpah.
Update: Oxymoron of the day: The “Saudi Arabian Human Rights Commission.”

Saudis to complain about Europe’s lack of religious freedom
If the saying, “Now I have truly head it all” had not already been coined, it would have to be now.

It’s like the Hollywood left whining about their free speech rights being taken away.

Best. Analogy. Ever.

I feel like that’s an oxymoron.

Will it be Susan Sarandon, Reid, the View, or someone from the Bush administration who takes the Saudi side in this?
JiangxiDad on October 5, 2007 at 9:29 PM
All of the above.

Textbook example of the old saying about “the pot calling the kettle black”.
Are kettles un-Islamic by the way??

Oddly the saudis themselves are under pressure to change
Saudi’s to consider judicial changes
Saudis to overhaul judicial system
The justice system has come under heavy attack in the media after cases of arbitrary sentencing [AP]
Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz, Saudi Arabia’s king, has announced an overhaul of the country’s judicial system, fulfilling a pledge he made several months ago to reform the current heavily-criticised administration.
The move includes the establishment of a supreme court as well as commercial, personal status and labour tribunals.
Justice in Saudi Arabia is currently administered by a system of religious courts according to the kingdom’s strict interpretation of Sharia law.

The things you learn…I thought that there was no religion in Europe, only in Red America.
Ropera on October 5, 2007 at 9:40 PM
Well, here’s hoping the Europeans send them an equivalent list of requests and tell them point blank, “You go first ’cause you have much further to go. Let us know when you’ve caught up and we’ll talk.”

The Saudi government is complaining about Europe’s religious freedom.
***shacking head***
When I was TDY (deployed to Saudi) to Dharan in 1996 we used to have to leave our living quarters (Khobar) and drive a mile or so down a public highway, to the AFB entrance. (We called it suicide alley).
On time we had a female squadron TSGT driving the shuttle bus…
While she had her BDU shirt with her, she forgot to put it on, and when she entered suicide alley was was quickly pulled over and detained for showing to much skin (she did not cover up her arms) with the BDU shirt.
In the end they released her to another member of my squadron.
The Saudi government is in no place to bitch about religious freedom (or human rights) as far as I am concerned.
F15Mech on October 5, 2007 at 9:42 PM
Ummm, can I see the Saudis definition of Religious Freedom,
because it’s not the same as the west.
Also I was stunned to learn that muslims from Africa
on their pilgrimmage to Mecca, are shall we say, treated not the same as white muslims,so the religion of peace isn’t that tolerant after all.
Lets hope Al,Jesse,Malcolm X don’t find out the truth
of the compassionate Islam,oh and for Obama, that means
he’s not riding in the front of the bus either!
canopfor on October 5, 2007 at 9:46 PM
Not chutzpah. The West has given the Saudi Entity every reason to be held in total contempt. Anyone want to bet if the EUrinals in Brussels take this seriously?

We’re truly in the Twilight Zone.

Just shows, Islam isn’t a religion, as all true religions are based on perpetuating fundamental truth. They are committed to every kind of lie. It’s more of a conspiratorial doctrine dedicated to eradicating civilization from the planet.

William Amos on October 5, 2007 at 9:50 PM
Boo Freakin’ Hoo!
Before doing that, let’s review the common denominator in terrorist attacks for the past….say…. 30 years. Outside of Irish Catholics blowing up Irish protestants what religion is almost always involved on the terrorist side of the equation? Yeah! No connection between terrorism and Islam is there?
highhopes on October 5, 2007 at 9:53 PM
Bryan,
I gotta take slight exception with the use of that photo of the traffic sign (above). It isn’t clear from the context but “holiest city” probably says it all- roads leading to Muslim-only venues. You make it appear that there are special HOV-Muslim lanes on major roads.
I’m not critical of calling out Saudi Arabia’s hypocrisy but only the suggestion from this photo. The same sort of signage would be in place around Rome if the Vatican were a Catholics-only enclave.
highhopes on October 5, 2007 at 10:00 PM
So, it’s Friday night and I’m getting ready to go out & I read this. It’s bad situation. I fear I’ll just be foaming at the mouth all night. I must calm down, but logically speaking my anger is quite justified. Still, infidels just want to have fun.
thuja on October 5, 2007 at 10:09 PM
That is a more sinister sign than you can imagine. Remember this?
JiangxiDad on October 5, 2007 at 10:11 PM
Beyond Gramsci and Chomsky, who’s the modern intellectual-father of these smear tactics, where veracity and message is subordinated to effect?
It’s the same. The rhetorical tactic and political style of the radical left and the radical Islamics is the same. Radical Islam has glommed on to American progressivism for its vocabulary, style, and strategy (deconstructionism). Today they echo each other.
USA, as we know it, won’t stand a chance until we understand the technical details (and effectiveness) of this school of communication, and become adept at countering it in kind, as needed.
If we conservatives insist on relying exclusively on rational debate, and declining rebuttals calculated for emotional appeal, in order to take the ‘high road’, the next 30 years will look like the last 300 years. In which case, so nice to know ya.
petefrt on October 5, 2007 at 10:15 PM
Obviously not.
highhopes on October 5, 2007 at 10:16 PM
Hmm.
Well, the Euros can counter this demand with an offer to their native Muslims. A choice; live here under our rules and suffer our fiercely waggling eyebrows of suspicion, or go back home where your religious freedoms are in such great abundance.
No? OK.
Shaddup, then.
lauraw on October 5, 2007 at 10:27 PM
And to them this makes perfect sense.
Tony737 on October 5, 2007 at 10:28 PM
They can, but they won’t. Instead, the largest mosque in Europe is being built in London. It will hold 40, 000 of the “faithful.” By contrast, the largest church in England holds 3000 people.

The Royal family is between the rock and no F’in return! I will grant them time and latitude in order to placate the most miserable amongst them. It does “us” no good to chastise a numb population at the expense of those (royals) that truly understand who butters their bread. Sometimes smoke and mirrors do work….patience and support will keep the Saudis onboard!

I wonder if the words tolerance, diversity, freedom, acceptance, Christian, Jew appear in dictionaries in the Middle East, or are they banned as well because they contain words not approved by the mullahs.

When there’s a synagogue in Mecca then the Saudis can talk. Until then…

Simple. Neat. Logical. Fair.

Muslims should remember the relationship between Lions and Hyenas. The Lion will tolerate a lot of crap from the Hyena, but if the Hyena goes to far - no more Hyena.

How about demanding our politicians pass a set of RECIPROCITY laws to match other countries’ policies concerning immigration (Mexico comes to mind), work permits (Mexico and Thailand come to mind), land ownership (Mexico and Thailand again), freedom of religion (Saudi definitely comes to mind), etc.?
How about it, fellow HA commentators?

Texas Nick 77 on October 6, 2007 at 7:40 AM
Don’t worry, I’m sure the Pope will take the lead on this one by praying in a European Mosque to prove how free the society is.
This can only end in warfare. I’m not talking about a religious war, but a defensive war to repel the creep of Islam. It is the only thing they will respond to (just like the Crusades).
It’s going to get very ugly very quickly. And Islam will lose AGAIN.

Thousands of mosques are being constructed here in the US with Saudi funding, one of the biggest of all in Boston.
We are already being taken.
The next Crusade may well begin at Concord.
drjohn on October 6, 2007 at 9:56 AM
A few days ago I was directly(and quite accidentally)confronted with the point of view that Islam really is quite a benevolent religion underneath it all and the violence advocated by their faith can be explained, justified and excused by their Ottoman history. When I attempted a “that was then and this is now and if there are moderate Muslims out there why aren’t they speaking out and pushing for reform.” I was literally shouted down and some of the group left the room in anger. These are good people whom I know well, but how they reach these conclusions is totally beyond me.

leanright on October 6, 2007 at 10:56 AM
All this suprises anyone? Europe has been on the slide for a generation or more. It’s probably the beginning of the end for America also. Look at the last two general elections. It’s a 50-50 split. That means there are actually people, the liberals/democ-rats, that really want to bring down our beautiful country and turn it into a muslim/mexican/socialist state. What else can you think? They might even do it next time in 2008 with the socialists Clintons - Hillary and ‘white trash Willy’. I haer New Zealand is nice and without any of these problems.
countywolf on October 6, 2007 at 11:18 AM
Funny you mention that. It had occurred to me that the coming clash would be war between the Hispanic and Islamic cultures for the soul of this country.
drjohn on October 6, 2007 at 11:23 AM
I am sorry to tell you that New Zealand is a PC paradise. It is one of the most “liberal” places on Earth, and now has a very restive indigenous native population causing others to bend over backwards as far as they can. Australia has a conservative population like we do, but many of the same kind of social wars with their libs, and China breathes down their neck. I’m afraid there is nowhere to go. Make your stand.

Their argument is not for tolerance of religion, just tolerance of Islam. How else can these radicals establish their Caliphate? Islam must be tolerated in all nations so, as sheep, we can blindly be led into their intolerant, imprisoning, subjective and beheading society.
