Geraldo on his Michelle apology: “I threw myself on Bill O’Reilly’s sword”

posted at 11:58 am on October 5, 2007 by Allahpundit

From this morning’s “Brian and the Judge,” it comes at the end of a lecture about why Rush Limbaugh should apologize for the “phony soldiers” comment regardless of what he actually meant. Hey champ, since we’re giving out advice about contrition, let me offer some back: prefacing your apology with an ominous aside like “I won’t say what I think about Michelle Malkin,” as if to suggest that your honest opinion is so vile that it’s unfit for public discourse, tends to dilute the moral content of the subsequent “I’m sorry.” It’s like sending flowers in a vase filled with piss. At best, the message is, shall we say, a tad ambiguous.

Just skip ahead to 2:30 and ignore all the crap about Gitmo at the beginning. It’s nothing you haven’t heard before. Click the image to listen.

Put some Astroglide on that thing first.

Way too easy. Stepping back so I don’t get myself banned.

Sorry, AP, I can’t listen to Geraldo’s whiney voice anymore.

But I’d like to compliment you on the really awesome pic of Michelle at the top of this post. What a great “cat that ate the canary” look!

Hmm…phony reporters! Dan Rather certainly fits the bill. I don’t explicitly recall Geraldo fabricating content, though. He’s just slimey.

Ok, now I’m worried. O’Reilly had some unknown guy from Brooklyn College or some such place on to talk about Filipinos and Desperate Housewives. Michelle hasn’t been on that show in weeks and, even if she couldn’t make the past few Monday segments, you’d think it’d be a natural fit for her to talk about that story (both because she is a member of the aggrieved ethnic group and because she actually covered the story on her blog.) What’s up? I really hope Mustache hasn’t chased her off O’Reilly. :-(

(I’d call him “Stache,” but I think Frank J. reserved that term for John Bolton . . .)

Outlander on October 5, 2007 at 12:10 PM

The problem is that Rush has nothing to apologize for. It is the left wing spin that has taken us away from his original remarks and implied that he was referring to persons that actually serve in the U.S. military. My English comprehension is good enough to realize that he was talking about those that claim to have served in various capacities that then turned out to be lying.
Unfortunately, Geraldo doesn’t want to or can’t see the distinction.

Every time I listen to Geraldo I feel as if my common decency has been insulted. I should probably just not listen at all.

The problem is that Rush has nothing to apologize for.

…a problem exacerbated by the half-assed performance of so many “conservative” talking heads who concede the point for the sake of argument: e.g., “Well, even if Rush did call them phony soldiers…”

There’s absolutely NO reason to give an inch on this, so don’t. He called phony soldiers phony soldiers. The end.

saint kansas on October 5, 2007 at 12:16 PM

OK, maybe we should all drop a comment to FOX about Jerry Rivers and his “fake” apology.
Oreilly@foxnews.com , Hannity@foxnews.com, and Atlarge@foxnews.com , just a thought.

Michelle was a very strong and capable host on “The Factor.” If I was BO’R, I would not want her to guest-host very often because it would erode my brand image. Think about it: would Leno want Letterman to guest-host?

I don’t think you need to read anything more into it. Or maybe Michelle has someting else brewing. I don’t really care, since I can’t stand to watch O’Reilly despite our ideological similarities.

Anton on October 5, 2007 at 12:36 PM

Yup, love that photo. She and my wife would get along pretty well. Be fun to have dinner with her and her husband.

Screw Geraldo.

What kind of ratings does Geraldo get on his stinkburger of a show on Fox???

Anybody know??

Are they Olbermann-esque?

Always Right on October 5, 2007 at 12:41 PM

It was probably best that O’Reilly did not have MM on last night. Someone familiar with the Factor might have informed him that his paddy wagon moral equivalency exercise was better known to Factor viewers as “pointing to bad behavior to justify other bad behavior.”

rw on October 5, 2007 at 12:59 PM

I refuse to listen to him. I will have to go by what is said by those that actually listened. I have to trust you. Geraldo is a weasel. I don’t care what his opinion is on any subject.

I like Brian Kilmeade and am embarrassed for him. He is the only entertainment on Fox and Friends.

Based on what all of you have posted it doesn’t look like Geraldo has apologized appropriately yet.

Terri on October 5, 2007 at 1:04 PM

If you’re going to put a photo up of Geraldo, why don’t you use the sand map or the broken nose? He doesn’t deserve any better.

Connie on October 5, 2007 at 2:13 PM

Gerald always annoys but he again manages to open up new territory when he talks about himself being “man enough” to apologize. I sincerely question his credentials as to whether he qualifies as a man to give testimony as to what “man enough” even means.

Metro-sexual tools who try to define themselves as “man enough” give real men a bad image.

Guardian on October 5, 2007 at 2:14 PM

In other words, aplogize even when you don’t think you did anything wrong. Based on his comments, it is obvious that his apology to Michelle Malkion was insincere, that he still believes he did nothing wrong. Just goes to prove the old saying “A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still.”

So, does this mean that Michelle is boycotting the Factor?

O’Reilly is getting weirder, whiter and older everytime I watch him, which is less and less these days. His association with Geraldo is bizarre to me. My theory is that he thinks it gives him some sort of credibility because he is buds with a latino dude.

I could not believe the interview O’Reilly had with the Filipino guy last night. O’Reilly just doesn’t get it. Replace the Filipino joke (insult) on DH with “Mexico” and the back lash would have been huge! And, O’Reilly would have had his “buddy” (non-mexican) on to discuss it. O’Reilly didn’t think that it was a calculated attempt by the writers on DH but he would be wrong. They chose Filipino precisely because they thought they could get away with it.

BTW, I did email the folks at FOX about the Geraldo attack on Michelle and a week later I watched Geraldo eat crow on O’Reilly. It wasn’t me but the combined efforts of everyone who did complain that brought this result. Keep on making your voices heard, it does make a difference…

Isn’t Geraldo an illegal? If he isn’t, he should be. Deport ‘im.

Geraldo is half jewish half puerto rican from an upper middle class family from either White Plains or somewhere on Long island. He went to prep school, played lacrosse and rowed. Got out of college and decided he was downtrodden and “one of the people”. He is a typical phony northeast liberal.

Geraldo you pos lair,
You’re not a man.
You are a slimy bottom feeding punk.
You are a cowardly little race baiting narcissistic elitist
You pretty much just told rush to say I am sorry to end it.
So are you admitting to saying “I am sorry “to Michele just to cya????
Sounds like it to me and fox needs to handle this like a responsible company.
Threatening to assault a co worker should have spelt this tool termination at fox.

Listening to that clip makes my blood boil, I’m trying to bite my tongue but I swear it’s not easy after this.

Mojack420 on October 5, 2007 at 6:08 PM

So let me see if I have this right. Gerald threatens to assault a co-worker, BOR basically strong-arms him into apologizing, but I haven’t seen Michelle on the Factor since. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say it was a Hostile Work Environment.

I can understand if she hasn’t been back because she’s sick of the crap, but if it’s because BOR decided to dump her, then it might even be actionable.

He was born in Brooklyn, and raised in Suffolk County I believe. I think he may have lived in Lindenhurst. His mother’s maiden name was Freidman, of Russian Jewish extraction, his dad was Puerto Rican.
