He won’t. The whole reason for minimum wage staffers is to protect politicians from actually having to listen to people like you and me. Assuming, of course, that you didn’t contribute large amounts of money to Harkin’s campaign. Which if you had you’d get the super secret number to a higher-level staffer who would ensure that Harkin knows your feelings on the matter.

I see no difference between Harkin and John Kerry.

The difference, as I see it, is that Harkin actually didn’t come back, put on his grubbiest uniform pieces and tell a Senate panel that he had seen American troops commit atrocities. Beyond that both built their military credentials on lies be it Christmas in Cambodia on unauthorized missions or pretending that the Japan to P.I. route was “flying fighters in combat over North Vietnam.”

I have no idea if Harkin will get the message. Or, if he does, that it won’t say I called to congratulate him, either in Harkin’s perceptions or perhaps “garbled in transmission.” Probably both.

Should Harkin be condemning those who haven’t worn the uniform? Doesn’t that exclude 90% of their anti-war lunatics.

Not to mention every single Democrat presidential wannabe candidate. Taking this line of thought to the logical conclusion, how can Hillary Clinton or Barak Obama lead the nation as CINC when they’ve never worn a uniform?

I’m a little disturbed by the posters dissing the position. There are people in uniform doing that job today. Though it may not be a high-profile job, its a job that needs to be done. Those people wearing the uniform and doing the job have my respect and thanks.

You sound a bit overly sensitive if you think anybody here has been “dissing” the troops or the function of ferrying planes. Truth be told, the person dissing the troops was Harkin for not being proud enough of his actual service that he made claims of flying fighters over North Vietnam instead of ferrying planes from Japan to the P.I.

Yes, ferrying planes is a job that needs to be done along with countless other military jobs that aren’t sexy or exciting. That doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun when a hypocritical fraud like Harkin gets up there and claims to speak for the military. As a member of the latter organization I am deeply offended that Harkin dares claim speak on my behalf. The troops deserve far better a spokesman than that.

Thanks for clearing that up. My bad. And my sincere apologies if I offended anyone. I firmly believe that anyone who serves in our armed forces in any capacity is worty of our thanks and respect. But when they start to lie about their service (because they want to look bigger, better, whatever reason), the respect goes out the window. There are men and women who perform difficult tasks every day who feel no need to make themselves into something they are not. They will always have my respect.
