41 Democrats boldly condemn Rush for saying something he didn’t say; Update: Yet another VoteVets ad smears Rush

How often does the left get to accuse the right of not supporting the troops, huh? This is as close as they’re going to get; they saw their opportunity and they took it. Frankly, I’m impressed that Reid managed to avoid indulging his inclination towards censorship. Although with Wes Clark around to pick up the slack, I guess he didn’t have to.

Hey, aren’t there 50 Democrats in the Senate and 51 if you count Liebs? Yup. Here are the 10 who politely declined to put their names to this pathetic smear:

Evan Bayh
Jeff Bingaman
Maria Cantwell
Russ Feingold
Tim Johnson
Herb Kohl
Joe Lieberman
Claire McCaskill
Ben Nelson
Mark Pryor

McCaskill continues to be a pleasant surprise and Pryor deserves special recognition since he’s up for reelection next year and has already been a bit more hawkish on Iraq than the nutroots would prefer. It took balls and integrity to take a pass on a cheap score like this.

Exit question: What on earth is Russ Feingold doing there?

Update: Clear Channel CEO Mark Mays politely invites Reid and co. to get bent.

Update: Wielding the absolute moral authority of the Purple Heart, Iraq veteran Brian McGough also requests — nay, demands — an apology for something Rush never said.

McCaskill is from Missouri, same as Rush. Rush is a local hero in Southern MO. Maybe a little hometown respect?

AZCON on October 2, 2007 at 8:08 PM

What on earth is Russ Feingold doing there?

Other than being a barking moonbat Russ is a pretty decent guy. Seems to be good friends with a left of center (labor libertarian) talk radio personality here in Madison who generally supports free speech (and gun rights). Sly also buds with Nuge.

Congress has an 11% approval rating.

So… THREE TIMES the people approve of Bush over Congress.

Russ doesnt have to bend down to kiss Media Matters behinds for money or votes. He isnt worried about placating them.

I was also shocked by Maria Cantwell at first, but then realized the only way her constituency wouldn’t vote for her is if a socks-and-sandals wearing retard in Fremont declared himself V.I. Lenin and promised free health care and Starbucks to everyone from Ballard to Magnolia.

41 Democrats boldly condemn Rush for saying something he didn’t say

Yep, they’re worthless against terrorists and pretty much any other enemy of America, but boy are they fierce when it comes to repeating utter falsehoods about Rush Limbaugh. Bought and paid for, the lot of them.

ReubenJCogburn on October 2, 2007 at 8:13 PM

BTW even though MOveon was attacked no one on the right asked that they be banned from posting their veiws. Nice to see the left wants censorship and control of the media

That’s all they ever want. Stupid Jane Hamsher was out cry babying about censorship when Dems voted to disavow smear pimps MoveOn’s ad and this is the same pitch fork book burner calling for Rush to be censored from Amred Forces radio.

I saw his name there, and thought the same thing…

JetBoy on October 2, 2007 at 8:20 PM

Rush being blamed for something he did not do…

Libs claim “phony soldiers” was in reference to soldiers returning from Iraq protesting the war.

At the same time libs pissing on former soldiers who support the war.

Anybody ever hear of the former soldiers called Blackwater?

Mary Landrieu is ripe for the picking! I hope the Louisiana Republicans and Independents dump her ass! Shame on her and the 40 others!

SouthernGent on October 2, 2007 at 8:22 PM

Boy, those Dem cadidates are sure brave headline at Drudge:

HILLARY CLINTON, OBAMA SIGN LETTER CONDEMNING LIMBAUGH IN U.S. SENATE…

Hil and Obama found time to sign a worthless letter but couldn’t show up for the vote.

Hilarious. The candidates humiliate the lefty blogs.

Topsecretk9 on October 2, 2007 at 8:24 PM

oops – I thought there was actually a vote somehow — it’s just a stupid letter?

Topsecretk9 on October 2, 2007 at 8:28 PM

“Democrats boldly condemn…”

Yeah. And?

I though we weren’t supposed to be judgemental?

Oh, yeah, its only Republicans that aren’t supposed to be judgemental.

Lawrence on October 2, 2007 at 8:31 PM

whoa they are really a useless bunch

hear them roar

BillLalor on October 2, 2007 at 8:33 PM

So why don’t the Republicans write a letter, have them all sign it, correcting the record, commending Rush for supporting our troops and send that off.

tarpon on October 2, 2007 at 8:33 PM

The Dems are like a group of people rioting. They know it is wrong but the just can’t stop going along with the herd.
Rush, on the other hand is in a good position. Not only because he is right but he will gain listener-ship from this. That can only help the GOP in 08.

TheSitRep on October 2, 2007 at 8:35 PM

Finally, one my Senators does the right thing. Maria Cantwell declined to support this nonsense. Although I don’t know if she really declined or just wasn’t there to vote. Seems like she misses a lot of votes. Unfortunately, my other senator, Osama-mama Murry is in the Reid, Durbin et al. camp so nothing she does is a surprise anymore.

Mallard T. Drake on October 2, 2007 at 8:36 PM

How can something that never happened stir up this much crap?
The left in this country will try anything to land a low blow. We can only hope that Harry joins Tom in the dustbin of history in the next election.

I really think that the Dems are a gift that keeps on giving. Maybe there is hope in the next election.

duff65 on October 2, 2007 at 8:37 PM

Nice to see the Pantsuit fail to condemn the Betray Us ad but condemn Rush.

Well, I guess that makes sense since she helped create Media Matters.

What others voted against condemning MoveOn/for condemning Rush?

JammieWearingFool on October 2, 2007 at 8:48 PM

The big lie program gets a little weaker now that the MSM does not hvae total control of the info dispersion system. The Dems want to shut down the net and talk radio because people can actually find the truth now, they hate that with a passion.

bbz123 on October 2, 2007 at 8:48 PM

Russ Feingold? That must be a mistake.

If this was spring I would’ve been a little perplexed, but since it’s fall———-It’s hunting season———–
on Republican talk show hosts,on a previous thread I had a discussion about some Republicans had more love for Michael Savage than Rush.Well looks like San Fransico has an M-82
locked on Savage.By the way both talk show hosts are innocent, while were whining, the Liberals are fighting!

Next up, condemnation of imagined “thoughts”.

Between this and the San Fran Values vote today condemning Savage, the true intent and desperation of the left has come from behind the curtain.

This material will make great tv and radio spots.

Let’s go back to letting the state legislatures select the senators!

conservativecaveman on October 2, 2007 at 9:21 PM

They’re traitors. They are playing political games at the expense of brave men and women who are protecting us. I hate every one of them and wish them all the worst. I used to bristle when people wished physical ailments or harm on others for having a different political point of view, but that has changed. As soon as these insipid, pathetic excuses for carbon-based life form started screwing with our military, especially post 9-11, solely to make political points, that ended. I wish excruciating pain and suffering on every one of them.

D2Boston on October 2, 2007 at 9:26 PM

If Brian McGough were not part of an anti-war group, his indignation would be genuine, if misguided. As it is, he is merely using what he thinks is a gotcha moment to make a cheap political point. If he had any objections about Rush Limbaugh’s opinion or treatment of the troops, he could have said it years ago. I cry foul.

bnelson44 on October 2, 2007 at 8:17 PM

That was a very good slapdown. Go read for you that haven’t yet.

What ticks me off more than anything is that these (fiull in the blank) are getting away with this. People should truly be outraged that they are wasting our money focusing on a falsity.
The government has too much power. We need a revolution, but it just can’t happen. They write the laws, they control more than they should (and want more control everyday – in the guise of “for the greater good”), and waste our money like an immature, spoiled teenager with the parents credit card. The electorate is being dumbed down by the tragedy called the NEA, blindly giving power to power mongers.
Their plan is working guys and gals…get ready for socialism ‘08

lsutiger on October 2, 2007 at 9:27 PM

So What’s the end game? We know that this has absolutely no traction among those who actually read beyond what Media Matters puts out. But will this be enough red meat for the far left? Will this be enough salve for the open soar of not being able to secure defeat? Or is this to allow Hillary to save face on the “betrayus” ad? Will that work? 41 Dems. in the Senate is a lot, surely that many wouldn’t invest this much in the “controversy” only for it to end this week; but I really don’t know how far they can really take this.

Weight of Glory on October 2, 2007 at 9:27 PM

Those moron Democrats have lost contact with reality and have no idea what they’re doing. Their entire existence is a lie and one wold be wise to simply ignore their idiocy. The senate is no longer a legislative body . . . it’s a radical left wing propaganda machine. Disgusting!

Just got back from MM’s blog and she found a great article from the Hill, I believe. On Monday, the Repubs. wanted to push for the protection of radio hosts like Rush from attacks such as the fairness doctrine. It seems this dems are trying to get a lot of traction out of this so that they can push back on that House measure, leaving the issue off the table for the moment, while at the same time laying groundwork for future assaults on free speech.

Pam on October 2, 2007 at 9:41 PM

The bitterness coming from the left is sickening,
if the Liberals were honest and trustworthy, there would be nothing to do,nothing to see,a Tay Zonday rainbow touchy feely day.But it’ll never happen,so Savage,Limbaugh are on the front lines, and I must mention everybody else on the Republican blogs,MM,MKH,AP,Bryan,Ace,Opfor, etc are in the trenches.

This bitterness goes all the way back to President Clintons impeachment, not one vast right wing conspiracy could dream to pull this off.Just to clear the air,you would have to be nuts to believe that.

Every idiot move a Liberal makes it on the blog,Liberals want fair doctrine,so they want to eliminate talk radio,
Hillary Clinton wants Drudge Report gone, internet regulated.

The main reason the knives came out in Bush’s administration, first term, second year is that it’s payback
for Clintons screw up,-Impeachment.Rush Limbaugh didnt need any material——————the Clinton Administration
supplied it.Now were back to full circle LIBERAL DEMOCRATS
cannot silence REPUBLICANS!

I can’t wait to see what they do to talk radio from 2009 on. I suppose blogs will be in the crosshairs around 2010.

Maybe once Hillary officially gets the nod, people will be scared to death enough to rally the votes.

reaganaut, I think with the Clintons and the existing level of illness present among the Democrats/Left, what we need to look out for is quite possibly worse than mere smears. The smears of Conservative bloggers, by the way, started a number of months ago, individually and one-by-one.

That is why Rush Limbaugh’s recent characterization of troops who oppose the war as “phony soldiers” is such an outrage.

The Dims are outraged because they didn’t do it first, even though what Rush actually said was taken out of context, it’s the sound of it they’re jealous of.
Yep, the Dhimmicraps can’t get anything done in congress, so they’ve got to creat non-issues to get everyone worked up about and put the Repubs on the defensive.

Ah, so THOSE are the 10 democrats that can read.

I knew they had to be there somewhere.

The good news is the rise of the alternative media – in 1987, in a similar case, only the show’s listeners would know what really happened.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people too stupid to spend five minutes checking, apparently including 41 Senators.

The thought of how much those moronicles get paid, of our money, to wander around in a fog like that…

Merovign on October 2, 2007 at 11:50 PM

What? No putting it on the record with a vote? With 41 Senators signing the letter, I bet that they threatened to filibuster their own letter of condemnation rather than have it not pass with a simple majority. How pathetic!

rw on October 3, 2007 at 12:10 AM

If you look at the list of who signed the letter to clear channel, a large majority of them were on Norman Hsu’s Xmas list.

CommentGuy on October 3, 2007 at 12:19 AM

This is getting to be so disgusting! I am mad! I am just so mad! And I don’t even know who I should be more mad at!! the stinking Marxist lying Dems or the stinking cowards called Republicans! Why even bother to take the time listening for something to distort! Why not just completely make up the false news! It’s all the same anyway, right??!!!! Is there not one single Republican in all of the United States Congress that can stand up and state the fact that RUSH DID NOT SAY WHAT THE SENATE IS TRYING TO CONDEMN HIM FOR!!!??? Is there not one single Republican somewhere that can state the obvious??? In the capital basement?? In an airport bathroom, perhaps?? Is this what the so called Republican revolution has come to???? Cowards hiding in their offices afraid of being called names by worthless men and women!
I am just so disgusted! So,, if our glorious Senate can condemn Rush,, I think I will write a letter to condemn them! Why not? I can have fun if I want to!!

Dear Democrat Marxist Senators and other losers in our glorious congress,,
At the time I am writing this letter,, real men and women,, unlike yourself, are fighting in Iraq, like the heroes they are. I know many have died,, but they have killed or wounded thousands of terrorists! Our soldiers have always fought with great courage and they will always deserve our gratitude and respect! That is why your years of characterizations of troops that fight and support the war as losers, terrorizers of women and children and at least in one case, cold blood murderers, is an outrage!
Therefore, I condemn you!
It is also an outrage that you would twist and take out of context the remarks of Rush Limbaugh, a private citizen and a truly great American, unlike yourselves, and attempt to slander and silence him! He did not say what you said he said! You know he didn’t say what you said he said! That makes it even more of an outrage! Therefore, I condemn you again!
So, I, an American citizen, call on you to repudiate yourselves, if that is possible! Apologize to Rush Limbaugh, apologize to our soldiers and apologize to the American people for crying out loud!

JellyToast on October 3, 2007 at 12:33 AM

So where is the Republican letter stating they are ashamed of the Dems in the senate for signing this…not for being agains Rush, but for being so STUPID as to not know what he actually said.
And the letter should go on stating that they are concerned for the bills that are presented because apparently the Dems are to STUPID to understand simple english.
They should ask the Dems if the bills should be rewritten in way that they could understand, like maybe sixth grade level?

right2bright on October 3, 2007 at 8:59 AM

Is there not one single Republican in all of the United States Congress that can stand up and state the fact that RUSH DID NOT SAY WHAT THE SENATE IS TRYING TO CONDEMN HIM FOR!!!???

Much like the forged National Guard memos, we have to address what we thought he said, because what he actually said doesn’t serve our purpose.

There’s so much to be offended about, but it really bugs me that Media Matters et al can so shamelessly misconstrue plain English and call me the mind-numbed robot. Seriously, have any of these people actually heard the whole quote in context? Don’t they have an intern who could dig up an MP3?

saint kansas on October 3, 2007 at 11:04 AM

I checked in on the Nutroots Latest heartthrob John Cole to see his reaction to the story. While i guess that I shouldn’t have been surprised that he swallowed the leftist cant whole, I had somehow convinced myself that he was merely spouting off nonsense because he hated Bush. My bad.

And the Limbaugh controversy continues on, and the thing I don’t get is why they are denying he called them phony soldiers.

Some people are beyond parody.
