Malaysia to Beyonce: Cover up or get out; Beyonce to Malaysia: Okay, bye

Gwen Stefani could have walked too when given this choice but she preferred to take the money and whine about what a “major sacrifice” compromising her integrity had been. Our heroine this time around comes with more spine. Here’s Ibrahim Ramey of the Muslim American Society on Cavuto this afternoon extolling the virtues of modesty and taking the seemingly unobjectionable line that every country can and should govern itself as it sees fit. Unasked and unanswered is any question about the connection between female dress codes and other cultural attitudes that make that unobjectionable line seem suddenly more objectionable. If Stefani thinks having to cover her navel is a sacrifice, try getting a driver’s license in Riyadh.

Awesome! I’ll have to listen to some of her music to see if I like it…

Beyonce is one hot babe, the Muslims can f$%k off and die if they don’t like the way she dresses……
doriangrey on October 1, 2007 at 6:26 PM
Didn’t “Belly Dancing” come from Islamic Customs? Shieks in the desert caravan’s and the like?
PappaMac on October 1, 2007 at 6:31 PM
Although she dresses a little TOO skimpy for my tastes (probably because I couldn’t dream to fit into those clothes), good on her. She’s a beautiful woman and might as well flaunt it whilst she’s got it. You go, Beyonce.

Good for her! Malaysia ought to join the 21st century

DUDE, I am so glad you picked up on this. I saw it this weekend and THIS is how Stefani should have handled the situation. Well done Beyonce – bootylicious indeed!

I can’t name one of her songs but DAMN she’s nice to look at. My respect for her has just surpassed the eyecandy level.

Kalapana, what makes you think Allah saw the story on your blog?
Bad Penny on October 1, 2007 at 6:52 PM
Darth, c’mon, you can’t mean that. You rather have women dressed in burkas? I mean, I don’t want my wife and daughter to dress like her but at least we have the freedom to change the channel. If the islamist take over, you can’t escape the burkas. Careful what ya wish for. I’m sure you were just making a point but damn. :-)
Tony737 on October 1, 2007 at 6:53 PM
Maybe, Pelosi and Reid should have sent negotiators along with Beyonce. The left seems to think they can deal with these neanderthals. They (the idiots on the left) should try to live under the Taliban for a while. once thing is certain. If they win, San Francisco will surely change. You will actually be able to pick up a dropped coin on Castro.

I have (no, I didn’t stop to ask for prices) and they don’t dress like Beyonce. Trust me.

i don’t know how anyone from the muslim faith can be harping about modesty and dress when their 19 hijackers are out living it up in topless bars before heading out on their mission of martyrdom

hey Darth Executor, don’t be fooled. they have vice in their countries too. i’ve seen it.
mfnorman on October 1, 2007 at 7:19 PM
The point, I believe, is that she’s a grown-ass, free, American woman, and no one tells her how to dress. She’s telling the Malaysian theocracy they can take their bullsh*t misogyny and shove it. She’s refusing to submit. That’s a good thing, Darth Executor. Good for her.

That is funny. And considering what I posted, it’s true.

Western women publicly refusing to submit to Islam is always a good thing. Too bad Gwen Stefani chose dhimmitude and submission for the sake of a few bucks.
ReubenJCogburn on October 1, 2007 at 7:29 PM
Bad Penny:
I posted the link on Saturday’s open thread. Along with this blast from the past:
“Allah did not create man so that he could have fun. The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious.” – Ayatollah Khomeini
Enjoy your new overlords the haters of life on Earth, Darth.

Or is it Southwest Airlines adopting Malay standards?
Where do you draw the line on standards
Skimpy bikini standard? Oh, Yes please!
Not everyone can wear a skimpy bikini. So maybe there should be standards.

that word is Moxy.

Id like to say maybe thats a good on Malasia…Just for the core respect of Modesty.
Now we can have our own interpretation but wouldn’t it be best as a society to not “flaunt what you got”, Britney, Paris and Lindsay are all examples that come to mind.
Doogiesd on October 1, 2007 at 7:59 PM
I’ll take Britney, Paris and Lindsay and all their disgusting glory before burka’s, honor killings, stoning and beheading, thank you very much. You on the other hand feel perfectly free to submit to Islam, just go do it somewhere else.

Not “flaunt(ing) what you got” and covering up by their Byzantine requirements are two entirely different concepts.
Entelechy on October 1, 2007 at 8:28 PM
This was a test, I think. Those in Malaysia who may have wanted to attend her concert would have had to speak out. Which they can’t do. Not publicly anyway. It’s like holding a steak in front of a dog and then taking it away. Eventually, they will want badly what they are told they cannot have.
It’s an old story. Something about Eve and an apple.
I’m not into the fascination with skimpy dress and think it does actually lead to moral decline. Which is precisely what Islam needs. Decline.
Connie on October 1, 2007 at 8:41 PM
What he said…yea, thats the ticket……..
doriangrey on October 1, 2007 at 8:51 PM
Isn’t it really interesting that every-other Islamic
country stands on their laws and dress codes, and these
countrys are shape up or ship up.
But when it comes to the Land Of The Brave, seems to me that old glory to these foreigners means absoluely nothing, they DEMAND that their customs be respected, enough is enough!
canopfor on October 1, 2007 at 8:54 PM
Does skimpy dress lead to moral decline or a symptom of it?
Or neither?
hillbillyjim on October 1, 2007 at 9:07 PM
After reading about Beyonce’ Knowles accomplishments and achievements over the past few years, it is apparently obvious she in no way needs to perform in Malaysia. Then the big question remains, who went to Gwen Stefani’s concert if Muslims aren’t supposed to have fun?
kiakjones on October 1, 2007 at 9:11 PM
You go girl. Good for Beyonce..
Wade on October 1, 2007 at 9:22 PM
The Bible says that a woman’s hair is her covering. But lets take that a bit further and make it muslim and say that you can’t expose you’re hair, ankles, or any other thing that might excite men who are not allowed to see women. Then we become clandestine and do it on the sly. Great religion, wish I would have joined it. Then maybe I wouldn’t come under so much crap from the like of Hitchins and Dawkins. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Those two are so far out there it is comical. By the way if either one wants to get in between myself and my children I will just say GOOD-BYE. No christian tries to do that but they are so right it is OK. Bite Me and Die you gravy sucking pig. Hows that for a believer? Think that we are not regular people? You will find out there are more men here than out there in never ever land.
mjkazee on October 1, 2007 at 10:36 PM
I don’t know much about her, outside of what I would learn from brief media appearances and osmosis. What has she done that is so abominable? What makes you better, more virtuous or noble than Beyoncé? She seems to have done well for herself without bringing shame to her, her family or her country. Perhaps you know something I don’t.
If you are so willing to overstate the case in small situations, why should you be taken seriously when it really matters?
The Race Card on October 1, 2007 at 10:38 PM

Thanks a lot.
RushBaby on October 1, 2007 at 11:51 PM
Ever heard of indecent exposure laws? There is no country on this planet that doesn’t tell people how to dress to some extent.
While I agree that Malaysia is mysoginistic I don’t think telling someone to dress modestly is part of it. It’s not like they let men run around naked.
Darth Executor on October 1, 2007 at 11:57 PM
No, and I’m not sure how you got that from my post.
The point I was making is that this whole thing is asinine. There’s a large segment of the western world that believe in the same kind of modesty Malaysia requires of its performers. It’s called “Christians” and I happen to be one of them, and find it insulting to have this belief associated with islamic extremists.
Darth Executor on October 2, 2007 at 12:01 AM
No. I don’t actually plan on having any overlords (are you really so dumb that you thought I was serious?). If we lose the war against radical Islam (and I think we will, though not in my lifetime) I’d just go live in the wilderness. The actual point I was making is that there are times when we have to fight against their excesses. This isn’t one of them.
Darth Executor on October 2, 2007 at 12:04 AM
A good strong Texas raised girl. Love her. But we do have our flakes too, like California raised Gwen Stefani. The Dixie Chicks come to mind. Never hear about them anymore.
WildBillK on October 2, 2007 at 12:11 AM
Well, try saying what you mean! I really thought you must be sarcastic, but maybe you are not very adept at sarcasm I guess. Plus, your childish “10 dollar hooker” comment made you sound like a prude frankly. Sorry, I do not read minds. And I never joke about welcoming Jihadist rule.
Gatordoug on October 2, 2007 at 12:18 AM

EricPWJohnson on October 2, 2007 at 12:24 AM

I’m East European. If we joke about communist rule, you bet your ass I’m gonna joke about what should be a far less dangerous threat in a sane world.
Darth Executor on October 2, 2007 at 12:29 AM
\
It is a sad state of mind, in my view. No disrespect is meant by that either.
Communism is the greatest evil ever visited upon mankind. Jihadism is no less evil. And yes, I think Malaysia can have their laws, but I deeply respect her refusal to cave in to them. Call me nuts, I prefer liberty.
Gatordoug on October 2, 2007 at 12:36 AM
Sad, maybe. But I like the health benefits.
I disagree. Jihadism is less evil simply because it’s less dangerous. Communists managed to tear civilizations apart from within. Even in our far weakened state jihadism hasn’t been successful. Of course, I think as time passes Europe will head to its grave and we will follow. Extreme liberalism leads down that path.
I don’t think this issue is important enough to turn it into one of “liberty”. In fact, I think the only result of this reaction is to give people like Ahmadumbassjad more ammo agains the west, like making Holocaust denial illegal in Europe did:
Infidel: Beyonce can’t reveal her belly button in public, let us all point and laugh at the freedom hating jihadis!
Ahmy: Look, the infidels are arresting a man who’s running naked in downtown

We all should pay close attention to these events. The message is if you want to do business with us then obey Islamic doctrine. Bend your values, your ideals, your methods of living to ours or else.
The answer is: Boycott any and all Islamic entities, persons, and economic interests. Recognize what they do with economic power when they have it and avoid them altogether.
The bottom line is that if you wish to maintain your cultural freedom to choose, to express your values as you see fit, to not be intimidated and persecuted to adopt those values acceptable to Islam – avoid them in every way, and start with your purchasing and investment power.

Karol on October 2, 2007 at 1:48 AM
Taken on its own, I’d have to say “that’s up to Malaysia”.
We also have dress codes…remember the fuss about Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction”?
However, as was mentioned, this was part of a wider Islamic malaise that bases its treatment of women on a tribal model from the 7th century. Women are shrouded, not just for the sake of modesty, but also because they are the possession of men and should therefore be hidden from the gaze of other men.
This attitude can deny them most of the rights enjoyed men and lead to hideous abuses such as genital mutilation and the situation where Saudi Secret police stopped girls escaping from a burning school because they weren’t wearing scarves.
Good on Beyonce for boycotting this misogyny – shame on Steffani for complying.

I fully respect her right to dress and act like a complete slut, and I doubly respect her position that no Malaysian Muslim pos is going to dictate her attire to her.
Well done.
Sadly, her FU self-respect is not shared by the dhimmi limp-wrists in government and academia here in the states, where we are engaged in a municipal race to see who can build the biggest and best footbaths in the country, as an offering to our new Muslim overlords when they arrive.
On a lighter note, scumbag Raney from Cavuto will be eating his words about “there is nothing in the law that requires the wearing of a veil” the instant that Malaysia requires the wearing of a veil, in 10, 9, 8…
