I saw this at a air show a few years ago. It was really funny because no one was expecting it. Right after some aircraft pulled into the parking area, this guys goes out with a lawnmower to start cutting grass along the taxiway. The air show announcer starts yelling at the guy that now was not the time for cutting and starts yelling at the guy. The guy starts running away with the mower, he trips and the mower leaps forward and takes off. The crowd just stared in silence for a few seconds. They all thought it was some freak accident at first. It was great.

Big sadness in kidletville last night over the premier of “Meerkat Manor”
I won’t give out the spoiler for fans who may not have seen it, but real tears were shed by my 10 year old.

I can’t wait for Hitlery to be nominated corinated by the Dhems. I know Rush and Newt say she has an 80/20 chance of winning but I think she has ZEro chance of winning. It’ll be the ladies that swift her boat. Women hate her. She is enabler to the most successful sexual predator in America.

Mojave Mark on September 29, 2007 at 12:18 PM

Hey! Way to go Mojave! That’s outstanding!

The only thing that ever worked (and still works) for me is to lower my carb intake by eating lean meats, full-fat cheeses, and drastically cutting down or eliminating breads and sugar and starchy vegetables. I lost 50 pounds doing that over about a 9 month period and I feel great!

Of course I gained 15 of it back since then, but that’s because I’m an idiot and love ice cream and really good cheesecake a little too much. But I’m still MUCH healthier and happier than I was when I was heavy.

Just came back from the local music shop with my son’s 18th birthday present…a 100W Ampeg bass guitar amp.

I wish he’d go find a small intimate gig to play other than my house.

I’m spending the weekend with friends from Elementary, Middle and High School I haven’t seen in 28 years. We had a blast last night and drove the girls crazy with Monty Python quotes. We were in Middle School when Python first started showing in the states in the mid 70′s. We regressed back to that time last night.
I think the girls got tired of hearing “Dinsdale! and Bring out your dead” over and over.

They are about to pick me up to go out again. Tonight, the Lumberjack song will be sang in public to embarrass the ladies again!

If he’s good enough to play Jaco Pastorius then there’s really no reason for you to ever notice him playing, except of course for the music in the house being a tad bit on the loud side.

After I had been playing five or six years pretty much everyone around me stopped being able to tell if I was playing or the radio/recorded music was on.

I’d never heard of Pastorius (though I recall Weather Report way back in the day) until my son started playing bass a couple years ago. He plays this one song (called Continuum I think) that’s absolutely awesome.

Heh…reminds of the time years back when one of my Air Force buddies showed up with a 9MM slung over each shoulder and a 12-pack of Coors Light in his hand saying “Who’s ready to go to the range?”. I said beer or bullets, but not both.

We sat around and drank beer instead.

But I’ll never forget him standing in the doorway like that and me thinking “Man, this is a headline waiting to happen.”

I played in a Jazz trio when I was in college, we did covers of George Benson, Return to Forever and of course Jaco. When it comes to his playing Jaco really doesn’t have a whole lot of what could be termed “peers”.

The 7th one is always the unintended one. Someone who is marked by the enemy. Problem is, there are too many candidates – Michelle Malkin, Bill Oreilly, George Bush, wait, I got it! Karl Rove! That’s why he retired. He figured it out. He’s on the hunt.

The only good thing I see about having a Democrat for President in 2009 is that finally comics can move on from Republican jokes and poke fun at the Dems.

terryannonline on September 29, 2007 at 3:30 PM

Trouble is, if you watch SNL, the late shows, the Daily Show, etc. you’ll notice that they tend to mock Dems only on personal levels (like the Hillary laughing thing, or Bill chasing broads, or Kennedy being a drunk, etc.). They attack, in a dishonest manner (not using facts) Republicans on policy, and the sad thing is, millions of viewers of these shows are pretty detached from the news outside of these comedy shows.

The shows get away with the “it’s just a comedy show” excuse, but in reality they’re appealing to headline readers… just like the major papers in this country do, Yahoo!, the AP, etc. They write misleading and sometimes outright LYING headlines, because they know most people don’t sit down and read the paper. And I’ve noticed a theme in AP stories that start with misleading headlines to bury the most important bit (if it doesn’t make Bush/GOP/Iraq war/economy look bad) at the end, in hopes that even those who skim the article, or start to read it, will never digest that bit.

A recent example is this CSM article via Yahoo!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20070927/ts_csm/adebt
The headline reads:
Bush’s fiscal legacy: bigger debt

But Yahoo used this headline on it’s home page:
“Historic federal debt to become Bush’s fiscal legacy”

Now, I’m not going to nitpick on how that seems to be editorializing, but what I want you to notice, is that we’re looking at a 23 paragraph article that is unrelentingly negative, until it ends with this bit, which almost says “this entire article was pointless to write”:

The public debt is now about 37 percent of the size of the US gross domestic product, says Riedl. That figure was higher during the 1990s, following the Reagan buildup.

The US can handle the current amount of red ink, he says. “It is not at a level that would significantly increase interest rates or cripple economic growth.”

[Editor's note: The sub-headline in the original version misstated the publicly held federal debt.]

So as a percentage of GDP, public debt was higher before… so wtf was the point of writing this article? Oh, because they can trick readers by talking about dollar amounts, because most aren’t going to say “wait a minute, what about the percentage of the GDP!?”, and CSM is covered because they snuck that in at the end.

This is a drop in the bucket, but I think you get my point.

Well, well, well…..it looks like Fred is doing every thing he can to scuttle his campaign. I guess that $3.4 million ought to be headed into his pockets pretty soon.

I mean really, WHO is advising him? His wife? What kind of a politician doesn’t know whats going on in his own state? We all know Fred isn’t stupid so there has to be some logical reason for him shooting himself in the foot like this on a weekly basis. My theory is he wants the groupies cash donations funneled into his bank account so he can live like a king for the rest of his life.

He’s actually pretty considerate and keeps it low most of the time. Since he just got the amp, I told him he could crank it for a while, so he put it up to about 4 or 5 and started playing a Jaco Pastorius tune…everything’s vibrating.

As a working musician, I find your restraint to be something awesome. You should be proud he blasted Jaco instead of playing the intro to “Running With The Devil”(hint, it’s just one note over and over). It brings back fresh to my mind the days when we’d hold full band practices in our drummer’s garage, and people from 2 blocks away would call the police and complain. I was seriously under-amped, but our rhythm guitar player had an awesome 50W HiWatt combo that could just tune out the rest of us.

Oh, the good old days.

Just read an AP piece about “leading indicators down for the GOP”. Will keep saying it(no matter who says it)make it so? Worry! Worry!

Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if news reports start looking a little more cheery when the Dems take over.

Do I see a squirrel sitting on the front hood, piloting that thing?

(That would make it a ‘flying squirrel’, right?)

I could not agree more.

However this also happened in NYC.

I can’t find the real story (someone please help me out) however the TV show Law and Order:SVU did an historical-fiction show on it.

In the real story the father was suspected of having ties to terrorists, Prior to the daughters murder, the FBI obtained a warrent and planted bugs in the familys apartment.

What the FBI tapes helped prove is the the Mom and Dad killed their daughter because they were unhappy with her (namely she was dating a black man).

Bryan, I was curious what you think of a guy named Robert Zubrin. As of the year 2000 he suggested we were taking the expensive & slow approach to space travel; that missions to Mars and the Moon were feasible with minor adjustments to off-the-shelf technology; and that in the not-so-distant future (less than 50 years), missions could pay for themselves through the economic benefits of exploiting Mars, Moon and selected asteroids.

He was also of the opinion that NASA wasn’t being challenged enough in the 90′s, and that it cost just as much to have talented engineers sitting around looking after the shuttle as it did to empower them with more significant manned missions.

Don’t know how he’s regarded in the industry or what his current thinking is – the new mission directives have come about since I last read anything – but it looks like the space gear (Orion, Ares) is being completely built from scratch, and it will take us at least another 10 years to get to the Moon. I wonder if the space community agrees this is a good thing or a bad thing, or if there is significant disagreement.

Or anyone out there in addition to Bryan who worked with these good folks?

Big sadness in kidletville last night over the premier of “Meerkat Manor”
I won’t give out the spoiler for fans who may not have seen it, but real tears were shed by my 10 year old.

End of an era, eh? …..I was hoping to hear that Flower was going to declare for the Presidency, she would be a much more “human” choice than Hillary.
