<blockquote>Oh, come on. That was funny. If you can’t appreciate that, you need to lighten up.

I wasn't offended by it or anything, but I didn't find it all that funny. There were a couple of chuckle moments but none that made me laugh out loud.

I was using sarcasm, too. The guy was hilarious.

What, do two sarcasms create a multiplication equation where two negatives make a positive or something?

LOL, Uncle Jay was awesome.

Seriously guys, quit the sex offender garbage. You know who fits just one of the profiles of a sex offender? O.J. Simpson, big black ex-football star. This is just a snarky old man who somehow hasn't managed to lose his sense of humor over the years.

Jeebus guys, can't you take a little ribbing?

I mean come on, how was your sarc-o-meter not on 11 when he put up the "Bush Just Sux!" picture of the NYT imagened blog? or how about "Attack the people they're supposed to attack, unless its Fox News where they attack the left."

Seriously, this was Grade A satire. I've seen a lot worse coming from obvious Democrat hacks, like Rovemort.

Uncle Jay is probably one of the best satirists on the web at the moment. His entire weekly video is for "children", but really its the format that allows him to sarcastically point out how laughably banal and worthless most of the news actually is. The one about "recess" (<a href="http://www.unclejayexplains.com/page/2/" rel="nofollow">top of the second page</a> at the moment) is pure gold.

<blockquote>Then you should join us in the real world and go watch the piece again - and have somebody explain it to you. How’d you manage to completely miss what he was saying?

</blockquote>

It is not very hard to get the gist of what Unka J is saying; however, the way it was presented leaves a whole lot of room for misinterpretation, especially among "young'uns", who, it seems to me, are most likely to be swayed by this bilge. The pictures flashing alongside the commentary will likely mean nothing to a large segment of those who will ultimately view this.

All in all, I find it mildly humorous, but also dangerously deceiving to the uninformed, especially presented in it's Romper Room-like format.

See ya in the funny papers. I'll be looking for someone to explain them to me.

The Race Card on September 27, 2007 at 10:50 PM

TRC, while I agree with your respectful submission, and I appreciate your other comments very much, the issue is with the ratio of liberal versus conservative reporters, newscasters, professors at any university, stations, etc.

Yes, the conservative media is building itself up, and is doing better than 20/30 years ago, but it still doesn't have parity. I fully agree with you on the biases of both. At least the right doesn't claim to be unbiased, as much as the left; and I mean the journalists, not the bloggers.

Don't know - I picked it up verbatim from the "About" on his site.

Btw - I found the video funny and he listed himself with the likes of Srappleface, whom I'm crazy about for the satire on current events. I had never heard of him before and don't hold against him that he considers us all scumbags. Cheers to us all!

<blockquote>A blog is something that lets ordinary people link to professional reportering and great writing, and then add their own opinions and bad writing.</blockquote>

That applies to almost every blog out there. The number of bloggers doing any original reporting appears to be a minute proportion of the blogosphere. I've worked both sides of the fence - interactive media and journalism. So when I hear a lot of the generalized bashing of journalism, I get a little bothered.

Lots of people claim to have stopped reading newspapers altogether, relying solely on blogs for hard news. But I cannot think of one blogger who sources and/or gathers all of their own facts. All of the best link to and quote from the dinosaur media everyday.

Despite the obvious biases, there is an organized system at every paper that involves fact checking and quote verification. <strong>There have been many lapses and failures in these processes across the country, with Dan Rather, Jack Kelly, Jayson Blair et al leading the pack.</strong>

But this dismissive mantra, which has become so chic, is ridiculous. Where, praytell, did we get our information about the Indonesian tsunami, war in Bosnia, the Beslan massacre, car accidents, weather, crime reports, sports scores, GM's profit margins, etc?

Michelle Malkin is an excellent journalist. But she is a rarity among bloggers. Many bloggers have never made one phone call, got one quote or been on site live to one current event. Quotes are often the most important part of a news story. News is not just information, it's context. Quotes give that context and texture to a story. But many, if not most bloggers, link to newspapers, periodicals, broadcast news videos, for their quotes. That's not reporting.

Don't get me wrong; be critical. The scrutiny is working. Every newsroom in the country has felt your impact. Many newspapers have taken tremendous profit hits. But it really does sound sophmorish and uninformed to write off every journalist and newspaper in the country as inept information agents.

Journalists, professors, actors etc are overwhelmingly liberal. Many let there biases affect their work. But then can't the same be said of conservatives - that we are unable to think critically and act objectively?

I, for one, can do two things at once. I've been picking my nose while typing this comment.

What's up with the pedophile talk? Next person that disparages another's looks should post their own photo for feedback.

Newspapers are still extremely profitable, compared to many business models. Oil companies, manufacturers, many companies operate at 5-15% profit margins. Newspapers with 30% margins were not unheard of until the new media craze.

Remember. Newspapers and magazines are ads with articles. The articles would not be there without the advertisers. Money. Money. Money.

Respectfully submitted.

Maybe the funniest - and most accurate - thing I've heard on the blogosphere ...

".... where people take objective stories with good writing, add their own opinions and bad writing ... and the commentators who know even less add even worse writing ..."

He nailed it all right. When you're right, you're right. Truth may sting a bit, but truth it is. Laugh out loud funny truth.

<blockquote>I believe I’ll stay here in the real world.

Then you should join us in the real world and go watch the piece again - and have somebody explain it to you. How'd you manage to completely miss what he was saying?
