Hey, Hot Air viewers. This is Michelle, actually, posting from the Hot Air studio. We’re always trying out new things. Today, we’re fooling around with livestreaming. I mentioned the other day that we were going to try livestreaming from Columbia U. Didn’t pan out, but we’re still testing out the goods. I opened an account at UStream.tv, which is a very cool site. If you’re taking a lunch break, check us out. There’s also an embeddable chat room, so you can join in that way. If you like this set-up, let us know:

The sound goes in and out for me as well. I’m running WinXP Pro SP2 and my browser is FireFox 2.0.0.7

btw, is anyone else having problems with Hotair.com’s RSS feeds? I use Google Reader and my reader hasn’t had any updates since last night.
I tried unsubscribing/resubscribing a number of times and still no updated hotair subscription.
Perhaps this new Live Stream addition mucked up feeds?

An Idea. Pick a subject and post it on Hotair and ask for people to make comments or ask questions
Then hold a Live stream answering these questions or comments while we watch. It was a bit too chaotic trying to answer 100 people all at once

he’s the problem with this though:
unless you custom develop something, it will be almost impossible to integrate into the current login system the site has. So it will be hit with trolls if you allow anyone to come and post comments.
That’s something michelle/bryan/etal should seriously consider.

That’s why they should go with Mogulus instead of uStream. No chat, just embed it here and the registered commenters continue with the status quo.
Plus, Mogulus has built-in switching and on-screen graphics on -the-fly. IMO, it’s just better than uStream.

This is pretty cool but like the other posters here’ the sound is not reliable enough to be effective on this sample to be enjoyable. Even the recording has the same effect. I’ve seen this happen with other live streaming applications so it’s more indicative of the backend technology than a local technical issue on your side.

I heard about Mogulus some time before they went live, but have not participated in their live streams. I was totally caught off gaurd one day by a friend who was broadcasting live from the beach one day using Operator11.com.
The operator11 broadcast I participated in was awesome. Onscreen graphics, chyrons, etc. He did a weather report with a googlemap in the background. It was silly…but very interactive.
Ustream seems to have good backing and a robust platform, so I don’t know what the deal was with the HA stream. But I am very hopeful.
Michelle is soooo good on camera. She is so natural and hard-hitting. This is going to be great when they get sound issues worked out.
Also, if you sign up at ustream for a user account, I think you might be able to prevent someone else from using your preferred log-in.

The Audio was merely weak for me but nothing I could not compensate for. This was through my aging G4 power mac installed with Panther and the current Firefox Browser.
