Question 1. Can a columnist for the “paper of record” plagiarize himself? No. the only “paper of record” is that paper used in the morning to prove I have had my fiber for the day.

Question 2. If a disgraced magazine’s fact-checker’s head rolls in a forest, and no one announces it, does it make a sound? No. because most magazine ‘fact-checkers’ could not find the forest for the trees.

I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion her head rolled. She may have seen that her position was going nowhere now, though I’ll allow that this might have been alluded to in a progress review. But if it was a headrolling event, she may find her voice sooner.

So (per the link for Question #2) Beauchamp’s wife allegedly no longer works at TNR? Very interesting. I wonder if STB will dump her since she’s no longer any use to him in getting the media access that he wants. Or will she dump him for being a lying sack of crap and getting her fired?

Update (AP): The answer to question 1 is, he can if he’s Bob Herbert. Nancy Kruh of the Dallas Morning News wrote the definitive expose of Herbert’s embarrassing one-note punditry last year. Evan Coyne Maloney was so inspired by it that he created the Herbert-o-matic column generator widget.

Brilliant KelliD, writers claiming “it was satire” has become the journalistic equivalent of actors and politicians checking into detox every time they blurt out something really bigoted or stupid.

The level of laziness on the part of what must be some of the highest paid reporters and columnists in the business is unbelievable. Is the NYT having trouble finding younger, more alert socialist hacks?

No, of course not b/c each “paper of record” event is really just a long, rich narrative of fair reporting; repeating oneself virtually word-for-word is not plagiarism, but simply a sign that the op-ed board feels that the public hasn’t absorbed the offical narrative yet. Surely, they don’t have to follow the same rules as us non-professionals.

Probably a large sucking sound, indicative of what is to come (once more) from TNR.
