House passes resolution condemning MoveOn’s “Betray Us” ad

Sixteen days after the ad appeared in the Times, the final chapter to this travesty is written. The vote was 341-79; here’s the roll if you’re curious to see how it shook out. Italics denote Republicans, roman typeface denotes Democrats. What do the 79 nays have in common?
Your quote of the day from David “Idiot Liberals” Obey, who may be a jerk but very occasionally is my kind of jerk:
Wisconsin Rep. David Obey, a veteran Democrat, recounted how he left the Republican Party during the era of Sen. Joseph McCarthy, R-Wis., and said that lawmakers have an obligation to criticize their allies as well as their enemies when they go too far.
“I’ve got an obligation to be equally upset when that kind of juvenile debate emanates from the left,” Obey said.
Exit question: 341 + 79 + 12 not voting = 432, not 435. Why aren’t the other three members accounted for? Pelosi isn’t listed at all, presumably because the Speaker typically doesn’t vote, but why not just stick her in the NV column then?

Sadly, I find my representative, doesn’t represent me.
Check George Soros’s payroll.

By the way, on the off chance Levy stops by (as he’s occasionally known to do), I have to express my disappointment that no one took Marc Lamont Hill to task last night, over his recent appearance on Hannity & Colmes where he said flat out that he agreed with the “Betray Us” ad, and after Hannity pestered him over and over about whether or not he thought Petraeus was Betraying us, Hill’s unbridled liberalism got the better of him and in a rant he admitted that he did believe Petraeus is betraying us.
At least Hillary tries to lie to cover her ass after calling Petraeus a liar. Anyway, I was just a little disappointed is all. I’m guessing Greg didn’t know about it, because I suspect he’d have said something.
RightWinged on September 26, 2007 at 2:28 PM
Placing an ad like that during a time of war is bordering on seditious.
The organization was founded because the founders felt like the nation should “move on” from the Lewinsky scandal. Yet, they seem to rehash the same tired tripe day in and day out.
I don’t wish violence upon others. But I certainly do not wish any good to come to these people

My thought also.
They are all owned by Soros?

Final chapter, I’m not so sure.
This blunt instrument can be used to hammer Mrs. Clinton for another 13+ months.

Too bad neither Kohl nor Feingold could show a glimmer of his common sense. Might have a better state here.
MadisonConservative on September 26, 2007 at 2:34 PM
Check out the title of the bill.
So what else was in this bill?
LakeRuins on September 26, 2007 at 2:34 PM
341-79 in the House, 75-23(?) in the Senate, Petraeus at 61% approval, and the poll against MoveOn at 58-23.
This really worked out well for them and the Times.
May they never hear the end of it.
JammieWearingFool on September 26, 2007 at 2:35 PM
Im utterly shocked that Murtha voted for it

atleast everyone McCarthy accused of being a Commie, really was a Commie….just took several decades for him to be officially vindicated.
the so called “McCarthy” left, will not be so lucky

Be fair its not like the word “Asses” doesnt cross our minds when we hear Moveon.

The republicans in congress are artfully screwing the dems at every turn, its beautiful. I’m glad the democrats were not this smart when they were in the minority.

Funny how James Hanson of NASA was found in George’s pockets.
Sadly, it’s proven that money will either buy you a judicial system or an elected official or any other prostitute willing to sell out their values.
The Beatles were right, Money can’t by me Love. Just everything else.

Hey, I’m ‘represented’ by Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer and Sam Farr. I’ve got no representation in Congress at all. I’ve got taxation, though…
trigon on September 26, 2007 at 2:49 PM
I wondered about that too. Did a search for H.J.RES.52 and came up with something called Approving the renewal of import restrictions contained in the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act of 2003. Doesn’t sound right. Wonder if there is a link so we can read the text of the resolution, AP?

Makes me wonder where the hell they were prior to 2006.

Soros truly is the evil puppet master, it’s scary how much power he owns
abinitioadinfinitum on September 26, 2007 at 2:53 PM
Yep me too, and those two b$%chs are driving me to drink…But then again on the other hand at least Diane Feinstein illegally funded BILLIONS of dollars to her husbands construction company…I’m not sure why she isnt sitting in a prison cell right next to Randy “Duke” Cunningham…

Note which way Ayatollah Ellison voted.

Dave Reichart came through for those of us who live outside Seattle. Baghdad Jim McDermott stayed true to form.

Interesting my congresswomen “Lynn Woosly” votes against this but was more then happy to write a letter for one of her staffers to try and influence the judge before sentencing the staffer’s son on his rape conviction.

Ron Paul voted “yea”!
Damian P. on September 26, 2007 at 3:03 PM
Probably only because he though he was voting to authorize an investigation into the alien base on the darkside of the moon.
doriangrey on September 26, 2007 at 3:07 PM
Surprised, are you?
Agreed, and by those whom would claim to be above that. The fact that the Times gave MoveOn a discount – for a political add – which, I believe is illegal, isn’t generating an investigation. Just condemnation lip service.
Kini on September 26, 2007 at 3:12 PM
While I can’t stand move-on, doesn’t the government have better things to do?
dougless on September 26, 2007 at 3:21 PM
My representative is William Jefferson who, no surprise, is one of the 79 bad guys. I guess it is tough to muster moral outrage with MoveOn when one has federal indictments stemming from 90K in marked FBI money in one’s freezer.
highhopes on September 26, 2007 at 3:22 PM
Moveon should have been charged with sedition, so no actually they really shouldn’t have anything better to do.
doriangrey on September 26, 2007 at 3:28 PM
I have two of the three–my rep is Maxine Waters. She was among the 79, of course, being the chair of the Out of Iraq Caucus.
To be fair to Feinstein, however, she did vote ‘yea’ on the senate version of this rider.
baldilocks on September 26, 2007 at 3:45 PM
How about we be fair to California and the United States and put Feinstein in prison right next to Randy “Duke” Cunningham???
doriangrey on September 26, 2007 at 3:48 PM
Well, I’m 3 for 3 here in Jersey—second only to Nan Francisco in blueness we are.
IrishEi on September 26, 2007 at 3:50 PM
That sounds like it’s seared into his memory. Per Wiki, David Obey was born in 1938. McCarthy was senator until 1957. Obey would have, at the latest, been 19 (maybe 20) in 1957 when he “left he Republican Party.” Must have been the Republican Youth he left, since at that time you needed to be 21 to register and join a political party.
I have to admit, though, it was an excellent sound bite.
Dusty on September 26, 2007 at 3:52 PM
My congress critter (Jo Ann Davis) is one of the Republicans who didn’t vote, but IIRC, she’s out with some health issues.
flipflop on September 26, 2007 at 3:56 PM
BFD. I’d rather they do some real work insteaed of political posturing. Just another turd in the toilet that will not flush.
Wade on September 26, 2007 at 4:11 PM
Since McCarthy was proven right what was Olbey’s point?
Not me, the less they do the better. Keep them busy with this kind of stuff so they can’t screw anything up!
Capitalist Infidel on September 26, 2007 at 4:25 PM
Run for the hills…I guess people are patriots, and we better be a votin like we are.
Democrats talking points.
It took them this long to decide that they were on the wrong side of this issue?
right2bright on September 26, 2007 at 4:50 PM
AAAAAmen!!
right2bright on September 26, 2007 at 4:51 PM
They are all Dems, in districts that would never ever vote them out. How they(the 79) is how the real Dems feel. They just can’t vote that way because they could lose their seat. But these 79 could kill their grandmother, and their district would say that is is ok because grandma was a Republican.
right2bright on September 26, 2007 at 4:55 PM
Just when you think the House can smell any worse, they prove you wrong. Can’t these idiots find anything useful to vote for, like impeaching Murtha and Kerry for impersonating military heroes?

Great catch!
Has anyone figured out why Pelosi’s name isn’t on the list yet?
Buy Danish on September 26, 2007 at 7:03 PM
There are currently two vacancies due to Marty Meehan’s resignation and the death of Paul Gilmor.
432 (voting) + 1 (Pelosi) + 2 (vacant) = 435
KSgop on September 26, 2007 at 7:27 PM
Way to validate a stupid, petty ad with stupid, petty debate. We’re engaged in serveral international military conflicts without any end in sight. We’re over-spending and over-taxing. Congress definitely has better things to be debating.
Mark Jaquith on September 26, 2007 at 11:26 PM
This was a proper, if incomplete, response to moveon.org’s ad. Step 2 should be revocation of their tax-exempt entity, and IRS/FBI investigation of them and their contributors, and an investigation of George Soros himself.
Investors Business Daily has a number of articles about Soros, what he stands for, and to whom he contributes.
From The Soros Threat to Democracy:
and here’s more about the mischief that Soros does:
In George Soros: The Man, The Mind And The Money Behind MoveOn, we see that:
And we find out exactly why moveon.org has become so powerful (and rich), and why:
And, according to IBD, Soros has been successful:
Yep. He owns them, lock, stock, and barrel.
And, he’s directly involved in stealing elections and corrupting the electoral system, according to IBD:
And he is THE MAJOR MONEY behind domestic terrorism:
The above alone ought to justify DHS and Justice to investigate Soros and strip him of his naturalized citizenship and his immediate deportation.
Yes, investigating Moveon, Soros, Open Society Institute, IS the proper job of Congress. Indictments for treason (aiding and abetting), sedition (domestic terrorism), and vote fraud should be returned against George Soros.
George Soros is a CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER to the United States of America.
georgej on September 27, 2007 at 12:47 AM
My democrat congressman supports the condemnation of MoveOn. I sent him a thank you support note.
If your congressman opposed the rebuke, then you need to express yourself.
Don’t let them get away with it.

Notice how all the Dem Presidential hopefuls voted on this issue in both the House and the Senate.
They have sold their sole to George Soros!!!
Pretty dangerous for this country in my opinion.
