And thanks for that story, Jason…It just seems our troops always look so welcoming to children over there, which is natural…but they also need to kep their eyes open.

What has “the cause” come to, when they use kids as unknowing bombers? It just doesn’t get any lower…

It’s pretty brutal, but I understand the mentality that unless you destroy those who refuse to willingly change their beliefs, you will face that enemy again.

Yeah they’ve done that kind of crap before. While I was over there the FOTM was to send kids with Down Syndrome carrying boxes, of what they thought were gifts for the Americans, filled with explosives. The kids would show up and the insurgents would detonate the bomb.

One of my favorite stories from Afghanistan is when a village elder brought a 10 year old kid in with multiple injuries to an Aid Station. The village elder was yelling and screaming at the medics about how horrible we were to be bombing children and such. The medics treated the kid’s wounds and released him. A few weeks later the same kid and elder came back. The kid had developed cellulitis. The elder was acting differently this time; more deferential and he seemed to be angry at the kid. They questioned the elder and it turns out the the kid was with his father shooting at Americans during one of the larger firefights while I was over there. The father died in the blast and the kid recieved his injuries.

This is nothing new. They are committed to win and will use any weapon in their arsenal. We have to have the same outlook.
