Video: Aussie asks Americans, should Muslims carry special ID?

Fresh off their Osama gag at APEC, it’s “The Chaser” attempting to show how far down the road towards Nazism some Americans are willing to go to fight terror. Answer: pretty far. Reminds me of the scene in “Borat” at the rodeo where he tells the man in charge they’re trying to get rid of gays in Kazakhstan and without missing a beat comes the reply, “We’re trying to get rid of them here, too.” Same shock, same awfulness, same gallows-humor comic effect, and the same potential mitigating factor: how many people did they have to interview to get the answers they wanted? A multitude, let’s hope.

They make Michael Moore so proud.
MadisonConservative on September 24, 2007 at 10:26 AM
Nope, couldn’t find Aussies that bad. /s
Dusty on September 24, 2007 at 10:31 AM
Great stuff. Good, solid Uhmurricans who know how to handle these sorts of problems.
I prefer the pork spray to actually just shooting them all, as the southern gentlemen seemed to indicate. But that smallish container will not do at all. I’ll get the big one over at Walmart.
Jaibones on September 24, 2007 at 10:32 AM
I don’t know what’s more sadder: the wackos they ferreted out of the woodwork for that segment, or the idea that a significant number of Australians will watch that with an uncritical eye and automatically assume most Americans are like that.
Mindcrime on September 24, 2007 at 10:32 AM
I’d say Australian propagandists should have to carry an ID-card and wear ‘pork spray.’
Griz on September 24, 2007 at 10:35 AM
That’s what I’ve always wondered with their 9/11 questions videos, too.
amerpundit on September 24, 2007 at 10:41 AM
I wonder how many Australians would have answered those questions the same way after the Bali bombings.

Yeah, read the book before you make smart remarks.
Allahpundit on September 24, 2007 at 10:43 AM
Well that was unnecessarily nasty. I have. I just think you went a little overboard on your editorial intro to the video.
BigAnge on September 24, 2007 at 10:47 AM
And 10% of the population still thinks Elvis is alive, 10% think the landing on the moon was fake, and even 11% give a high rating to congress, God knows how many think area 51 is something “special”, over 10% think we knew about 9/11 before it happened…
It shows that at least 10% of the population is nuts…
right2bright on September 24, 2007 at 10:49 AM
What a load of crap. Aussies are the most racist whiteys on the planet. Ever hear them spouting off about r**heads and the like? A bunch of racists!!!!!!!! Cherrypicking racists over here, they should look in their own backyard. Douches.
RW Wacko on September 24, 2007 at 10:54 AM
This is deceptive. They have interviewed in front of sites like Walmart, construction sites, and bus terminals. You will only find the uneducated working class there. This is a standard MSM tactic to get opinions to reflect their own views. Make America look like it’s full of idiot red necks.
If that were true how did we ever become the wealthiest nation on earth with this type of people?
It’s mildly amusing by by far a complete distortion of a fabrication.
Egfrow on September 24, 2007 at 10:54 AM
So what’s worse – some of the guys in this video answering in the affirmative … or the president of Columbia answering in the affirmative when asked if he’d give Hitler a platform to speak.
thirteen28 on September 24, 2007 at 10:58 AM
well, I think the pork spray is the best non-lethal answer to sharia creep in this country. It isn’t a violation of anyone’s rights or freedoms. It just shows the bigoted nature of Muslims against pigs.
/sarc
But truly, if pork spray is a deterrant, Muslims should be easy to defeat in any theater.
ThackerAgency on September 24, 2007 at 10:58 AM
knowing the Aussies, they’ll use this to validate their own reactions to Muslims. ‘They ain’t as anti-muslim as us Aussies, we’ll see your pork spray and raise you a pork bomb’.
ThackerAgency on September 24, 2007 at 11:01 AM
Numbers tatoo’d? Oh I get it, kind of like the Nazi’s did! WOW is that funny! My sides hurt!!!These guys are brilliant comics. Boy we Americans are real assholes aren’t we?
Flush these guys

This reminds me of the CBC. Same standard operating standards.

What this really shows me is what the world will be like if we’re attacked again.
Esthier on September 24, 2007 at 11:33 AM
The comment “If they come over here…” from one interviewee suggests that at least some of these people think the discussion is about non citizens. What we don’t know is what was said before the clips shown here.
The Monster on September 24, 2007 at 11:42 AM
I thought Muslims already have identifiable features.
Hajib, scraggly beards, bed sheets with eye holes, easily offended
Kini on September 24, 2007 at 12:52 PM
Doesn’t seem like a random sampling. Wasn’t actually that many different people they showed, and most seemed to be older males.
frankj on September 24, 2007 at 1:11 PM
Because those “type of people” have jobs, work for a living, take care of their families, and therefore don’t have time to be educated far beyond their intelligence, that’s how.
“Nuance” is for pretentious pseudo-intellectual do-nothings.
angryoldfatman on September 24, 2007 at 1:15 PM
Ah, it’s all so funny… if you remember to forget.

I thought the Wal*Mart sign in the background was a nice touch.

What his shows is that awareness of islam is spreading. This is good news. Of course, the smartass leftist comedians, don’t want this awareness to spread, so they mock it as a psychosis of the uneducated hick but they end up once again proving Godwin’s Law.
jihadwatcher on September 24, 2007 at 6:10 PM
NIIIIIIIIIIiiiice.
Do the ACCENTS give it away? South Alabama?
Lets march down under to the districts that hate the Aborigines and stack up a load of agitprop against the Aussies. How about THAT?
THERE IS A REASON “AUSSIES” starts with an “A” and not a “P”, but I have yet to figure it out.
But the pork spray? I am AaaLL about that. Cheapest non-lethal weapon the Pentagon could ever deploy.
seejanemom on September 24, 2007 at 6:15 PM
I don’t know what is more depressing: the fact that their are Americans who believe in segregating people based on religion, or that many in Australia will believe that the US is full of people like that.
I know some people here in these threads believe we should do something similar with the Muslims with what we did with the Japanese (”internment camps” as they call them) but doing so only partly justifies what Hitler did to the Jews out of the interests of “national security.”
If any type of detention camps ever sprung up in America, you would find strong resistance from many Jewish and Christian groups (especially churches that are mostly non-white) as such actions of discrimination could never be justified in either holy text.

Oooo!
Stupid people found stupid people.
What a paradox!

Looks like a cheap copy of The Daily Show to me, typical of what happens when other countries try to copy us(even Jon Stewart)

Bobnormal on September 24, 2007 at 10:37 PM
How’s about people on this very thread tarring the entire population of Australia because of one random ABC show.
Dicks.
Besides, the only people in Australia who would believe the US is full of people like that after watching the show.. ..are people who already believe that America is full of people like that. Come to think of it, I’m just going to hope that the ‘I’m outraged therefore I now hate all Aussies’ comments are just that; dry humour.
And yes, hello, I’m still around. But in Texas at the moment. For added irony.
Reaps on September 24, 2007 at 11:06 PM
It’s not based on religion exactly. It’s based on the actions of that religion’s adherents: mass murder, supremacism etc.
