Did Bill Sammon write that headline, or was it written by the D.C. Examiner?

I have no problem with Bush publicly instructing the American people, while targeting Dems and Democrat voters, of reality. I do have a problem if he is using back channels to give them advice that will help them win the election.

What worries me about this article is that it could cause Obama to make exactly the type of promises to the nutroots that would make it difficult for him to take a more moderate line as President. On the other hand, Hilary isn’t going to make such promises. Perhaps, we should be a little more silent about the outcome of the Democratic primary.

I don’t buy that, that is a terrible argument to make, I would be hard pressed to accept that sort of reasoning from one of my co-workers/managers if they tried it on me.

It’s not reasoning, it’s advance notice (or warning) of empirical evidence to follow which would invalidate my current position on any # of issues.

What if your co-worker or manager was J. Edgar Hoover? I’d think twice in that situation.

Wow, that couldn’t have been a more misleading headline… I suppose you did that in a joking manner, but as always I’m more concerned about the impression headline readers come away with (maybe too concerned, but that’s just how I roll).

Anyway, this is just an example of Bush showing he cares more about positive outcomes than he does politics:

Washington, D.C. (Map, News) – President Bush is quietly providing back-channel advice to Hillary Rodham Clinton, urging her to modulate her rhetoric so she can effectively prosecute the war in Iraq if elected president. In an interview for the new book “The Evangelical President,” White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten said Bush has “been urging candidates: ‘Don’t get yourself too locked in where you stand right now. If you end up sitting where I sit, things could change dramatically.’ ”

Bolten said Bush wants enough continuity in his Iraq policy that “even a Democratic president would be in a position to sustain a legitimate presence there.”

“Especially if it’s a Democrat,” the chief of staff told The Examiner in his West Wing office. “He wants to create the conditions where a Democrat not only will have the leeway, but the obligation to see it out.”

He’s not “advising” them, in terms of getting elected. He’s saying “If you take my place in here, don’t f*** it up. This is a lot bigger than campaign speeches.”

I’ve been rather disgusted with this administration about numerous things for a while. That being said, reading that article reminded why I voted for that man twice for president. Instead of spending all his last term worried about his legacy as Senor Clintonista did, President Bush is clearly focused on the future of and survivability of this nation.
