And just like that, new hope for a Republican victory next year. Teach her everything you know, G-Dub.
Lord knows, we’re going to need all the help we can get.

From the article:
That’s the only direct evidence that Bush is advising democrats. If there was anything specific about Clinton, I couldn’t find it.
They lead with “Bush advising Clinton!” and then don’t back up that statement, except that Clinton is a subset of “candidates”.
Bait and switch.
Bad Penny on September 24, 2007 at 8:40 PM
As frustrated as I can get with Bush sometimes, I can’t think of another President who so completely committed himself to being the President of all the American people. Whether he’s right or wrong on specific policies– history will judge. But while we bicker and yip about today’s gripe or tomorrow’s outrage, he is thinking 30 years out, and is willing to take whatever abuse comes his way from either side to quietly, irresistably put the country on what he sees as the path to a better future.
We’re all waiting for the next Reagan. The truth is that you never see a Reagan until he’s gone.

Sound a lot like Bush is telling all of the candidates, look people, you do not know what I know. The minute any one of you are sworn in you will find out my terrible secret. Dont take a position now that you will have to reverse when you learn that terrible secret of mine. Because when you learn my terrible secret you will do exactly what I am doing now.
doriangrey on September 24, 2007 at 8:45 PM
With the storms out there coming our way , I think only a very sick person would want to be President.
VinceP1974 on September 24, 2007 at 8:47 PM
Let the Kos Krazies think just that.IT will make them even crazier, as if it were possible.
doriangrey, been watching too much “shover robot”?
bbz123 on September 24, 2007 at 8:50 PM
White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten said Bush has “been urging candidates: ‘Don’t get yourself too locked in where you stand right now. If you end up sitting where I sit, things could change dramatically.
Any candidate who does not get himself at least mostly unlocked from Bush will never be sitting where Bush is now sitting.

That’s one of AP’s best abilities. As a writer of headlines, I think he does a great job!
Connie on September 24, 2007 at 8:59 PM
Didn’t he state this in his press conference last week? I recall him saying that the next POTUS will need to carry out this…..Anyway, I think Bush Advising Clinton is more of a headline grabber than the actual truth.

I see you got my TIP, Allah.
Thanks!

I’m keeping hope alive. Yes, AP, the Lord knows:)
terryannonline on September 24, 2007 at 9:02 PM
Bush is operating from a position of responsibility which many candidates can’t yet fully fathom.

Tru dat. He makes me click many times when I ordinarily wouldn’t. My boss curses you, Allah!

Nice stuff AP.

I’ve been rather disgusted with this administration about numerous things for a while. That being said, reading that article reminded why I voted for that man twice for president. Instead of spending all his last term worried about his legacy as Senor Clintonista did, President Bush is clearly focused on the future of and survivability of this nation.
deepdiver on September 24, 2007 at 9:24 PM
Bingo. Except I doubt it is his secret per se, but what he is privy to just by holding the office of POTUS.
infidel4life on September 24, 2007 at 9:28 PM
agreed.
yo on September 24, 2007 at 9:30 PM
Wow, that couldn’t have been a more misleading headline… I suppose you did that in a joking manner, but as always I’m more concerned about the impression headline readers come away with (maybe too concerned, but that’s just how I roll).
Anyway, this is just an example of Bush showing he cares more about positive outcomes than he does politics:
He’s not “advising” them, in terms of getting elected. He’s saying “If you take my place in here, don’t f*** it up. This is a lot bigger than campaign speeches.”
RightWinged on September 24, 2007 at 9:32 PM
This story is just another example of why history will record GWB as a great leader during dangerous times. And if Hillary is listening to him, it’s because she knows that, too.

Shillary has already promised defeat, hard to walk that back.
Captain America on September 24, 2007 at 9:52 PM
He’s a good man,, though I would not be surprised if some of these Dem candidates exploit or even sell any information given.
JellyToast on September 24, 2007 at 10:52 PM
From acquaintances who know these things – all presidents, in the moment they take over from the other (when they get initiated into all that is to know which matters), age by a few years.
Entelechy on September 24, 2007 at 11:31 PM
Just for the primaries; besides, she refuses to be for troop withdrawals at the same time…the general will be a different tune, by the same piper(ess).
Entelechy on September 24, 2007 at 11:32 PM
I heard Boosh say that Hilbary is going to win the dem pres candidacy. I think it will be good for us if he endorses her as well. It can only hurt her.

F15Mech on September 25, 2007 at 1:11 AM
Damn quotes are wrong. Sorry about that, lets try it again.
I don’t buy that, that is a terrible argument to make, I would be hard pressed to accept that sort of reasoning from one of my co-workers/managers if they tried it on me.
F15Mech on September 25, 2007 at 1:14 AM
It’s not reasoning, it’s advance notice (or warning) of empirical evidence to follow which would invalidate my current position on any # of issues.
What if your co-worker or manager was J. Edgar Hoover? I’d think twice in that situation.
RD on September 25, 2007 at 3:18 AM
Though in Bill/Hillary’s case, I imagine the knowledge gap is restricted to the new information gathered since their self-proclaimed co-presidency; I imagine they already know quite a bit.
RD on September 25, 2007 at 3:25 AM
What worries me about this article is that it could cause Obama to make exactly the type of promises to the nutroots that would make it difficult for him to take a more moderate line as President. On the other hand, Hilary isn’t going to make such promises. Perhaps, we should be a little more silent about the outcome of the Democratic primary.
thuja on September 25, 2007 at 5:40 AM
If he teacher her what he has learned since 2004, the GOP will have a landslide victory.
madmonkphotog on September 25, 2007 at 9:08 AM
Great pic, AP. Wish I had a larger one.
petefrt on September 25, 2007 at 9:29 AM
Did Bill Sammon write that headline, or was it written by the D.C. Examiner?
I have no problem with Bush publicly instructing the American people, while targeting Dems and Democrat voters, of reality. I do have a problem if he is using back channels to give them advice that will help them win the election.
