Your daily dose of the end of a once-promising career.

Singer Britney Spears has been charged with hit-and-run and driving without a valid licence.

She is accused of hitting a parked car and driving away from a Los Angeles car park on 6 August, a spokesman for the city’s attorney’s office said.

The 25-year-old could face six months in jail and a $1,000 (£495) fine if convicted of the misdemeanour charges.

Ms Spears’ representatives were not immediately available for comment, the Associated Press news agency said.

The train just keeps on wrecking.

A stint in jail is probably what this chick needs. Paris hasn’t been acting up as much since she got out.

lorien1973 on September 22, 2007 at 10:29 PM

If that was my car it would be on eBay so fast it’d make yer head spin. Unwashed and repair free.

mojowire on September 22, 2007 at 10:32 PM

Is this TMZ.com or PerezHilton.com? Why is this crap on Hotair? She bumped a car. Moveon.

roninacreage on September 22, 2007 at 10:37 PM

Once promising? ummmm, are you sure? Thin, tinny voice? Dance moves? She is no Vera-Ellen.

CrimsonFisted on September 22, 2007 at 10:42 PM

Bryan,

Does this mean you’re not going to the Britney concert with us now? You’re still going to pay for your ticket right?

realVerse on September 22, 2007 at 10:45 PM

There eventually at this rate, will be a very nasty train
wreck, unless somehow she changes her moral tracks.

canopfor on September 22, 2007 at 10:49 PM

this woman is an absolute cluster-frak

she and lindsay and paris and the like need to just be locked up for a LONG time

Defector01 on September 22, 2007 at 10:54 PM

the end of a once-promising career.

And yet, like the phoenix…

Let go and believe.

Weight of Glory on September 22, 2007 at 10:55 PM

Ms Spears, whose new album is set for release on 13 November, has also been dropped by her management firm

What a train wreck!

Sad news for Spear’s tweeny fans.

Mcguyver on September 22, 2007 at 10:58 PM

She will be able to plea bargain the “driving while chunky” charges.

Your giving me (and others) ideas.
Quit before you cause another “accident”.

Otherwise, thanks for the laugh!

Mcguyver on September 22, 2007 at 11:01 PM

I feel bad for her, am I crazy? I keep thinking of what Dennis Miller said about her, something like he didnt want to be the last guy to make a joke about her before she died tragically. I hope she gets herself together.

Maybe that’s because he doesn’t want to be compared to Rosie O’Donnell.

Dusty on September 22, 2007 at 11:30 PM

How often can a train wreck and still be functional?

Guardian on September 22, 2007 at 11:32 PM

Who’d have thought that we’d all be pulling for K-Fed to get the kids. I think 30 days in the slammer would do her a world of good.

infidel4life on September 22, 2007 at 11:57 PM

Well, on a train, I met a dame,
She rather young, but plain insane
She was pretty, from Mississippi
And walkin’ down that dead end lane,
She’s in heat, with booze,
But she just cant tell it no
I said, train kept a-wreckin’ all night long
Train kept a- wreckin ‘ all night long
Train kept a- wreckin all night long
Train kept a- wreckin all night long
With a “heave!”, what a “ho!”
But you just cant tell her so, no, no, no
Well, get along, sweet little rummy get along
On your way, get along, sweet little rummy get along
On your way,
She’s in heat, with booze,
But she just cant tell it no, no, no, no

Dash on September 22, 2007 at 11:04 PM

Nope, Dash, you ain’t crazy. I feel bad for her too. Thrown into the “we’ll eat you alive” pop culture machine too young by parents determined that she make it big and make lots of money. Packaged to be a naughty yet innocent girl in a big bad world. Not given the opportunity for a normal childhood or adolescence. Introduced to the party tart culture of Hollywood. Unable to make mature decisions because no one equipped her with the ability to do so. Now being abandoned by all and sundry. Unable to depend on the people who she should be able to depend on because not only has she burned her bridges but they seem wholly ill-equipped to help her.

This train wreck seems to be heading to a sadly familiar conclusion and it’s a real shame that no one in her immediate circle will help this woman. Of course, she may not realize how closely her life is resembling Anna Nicole Smith or Marilyn Monroe. The deeper tragedy is the two children she has and what may or may not be going on for them.

mjk on September 23, 2007 at 12:28 AM

I don’t feel a bit sorry for her. She has had every chance in the world to use what little grey matter she has left and she has decided not to. Grow up or shut up.

Limerick on September 23, 2007 at 12:36 AM

Oh and she just ain’t that bright. Which explains why she was so successful in Hollywood. They like their women dumb as posts.

Dude, she’s quickly going from train wreck to full-blown nuclear holocaust.

CrimsonFisted on September 22, 2007 at 10:42 PM

Alas, she is becoming a Vera-Elephant. Involuntary committment would be her best hope. Jail won’t do her any good–therapy might. Otherwise, binge drinking and drugs will probably kill her. A clear act of brewicide.

Dr. Charles G. Waugh on September 23, 2007 at 1:00 AM

Blink blink.

Not one person saying, “Opps she did it again”?

MirCat on September 23, 2007 at 2:02 AM

That would be 6 month on each charge the 14601.1 or .2 {if she lost her license because of dui.}
and the hit and run.
but unlike the rest of us regular folks she wont do more then a few days in the can tops. Myself I would be doing the time plus extra time to pay off the fine.

Mojack420 on September 23, 2007 at 2:15 AM

‘D still hit it.

MadisonConservative on September 23, 2007 at 5:11 AM

I honestly believe that a stay in jail may very well save this poor souls life.I stopped making fun of the situation when it became clear to me that she is in her last stages of self destruct before she kills herself one way or another.

Regney on September 23, 2007 at 6:18 AM

he didnt want to be the last guy to make a joke about her before she died tragically.

Well somebody has to be last. She is rich and famous, healthy and young, beautiful and living in the best country on earth. One third of the world is either starving or living in a war zone. 25,000 kids die everyday from malnutrition. Billions live in mud shacks. Hundreds of millions live under theocratic or political dictatorships. She is probably in the top 100 of the luckiest human beings on planet earth. If she does not deem that enough to live for, taking into account her scratched Mercedes, her flabby tummy, and unflattering tabloid photos, she is welcome to pop some pills and shuffle off this mortal coil. Nobody but Chris Crocker will miss her.

jihadwatcher on September 23, 2007 at 6:39 AM

She needs to retire, move into the country and run an apple orchard or something.

Coronagold on September 23, 2007 at 7:34 AM

Is Chris Crocker on suicide watch now? LOL!

ToddonCapeCod on September 23, 2007 at 7:54 AM

This kid has been a train wreck waiting to happen from the very moment her first video Hit Me Baby One More Time shot out of the gate. Ever since then, she has painted herself as this innocent-but-not-so-innocent pop tart who took the image she created for herself and then went too far with it. She is now a magnet for every tabloid lizard out there and as far as having a normal life, she lost that long ago. Maybe a stint in jail is just what she needs at this point, because rehab didn’t seem to do much and neither has threats of legal consequences. Maybe actually sitting in a jail cell for a while, like a full six months, may finally turn her around. And tell that loser Chris Crocker to go get a life and have a nice hot cup of Shut The Hell Up! It is morons like him who have driven this girl over the edge.

I do too. Not just because she seems to be making bad decisions, but they seem to spiral worse and worse. Fame seems to really destroy kids.

Gotta get the traffic, a iPhone is in the results. BTY AP, forget the iPhone and get the new iPod touch. Now here is a great product. A little pricey and will be nice with more storage, 16 GB is a little short for me, but it will come in time.

Is anyone capable of stepping up and saving Brit?

Someone end this saga and do the right thing for her sake and well being

EricPWJohnson on September 23, 2007 at 9:21 AM

Many people are affected by her behavior and it appears she may need to be locked up be it in a rehab or jail or both.

Wade on September 23, 2007 at 9:46 AM

bleh.
not news.

stevezilla on September 23, 2007 at 10:03 AM

She needs help. Maybe a stint in jail will least get her sober.

katieanne on September 23, 2007 at 10:20 AM

Was her toddler really the one driving the car?

Who cares?

oldleprechaun on September 23, 2007 at 12:00 PM

Send her off to Saudi Arabia for treatment. The procedure is rather harsh and she’ll probably want to keep the burqa for a while even after she has completed the cure.

Yes is a sad story. Especially because Brit has worked hard to get to the top, it was not inherited like Paris.

Wade on September 23, 2007 at 4:46 PM

My guess is that this won’t look good in the custody hearing versus the “responsible” parent Kevin Federline.

I think that I threw up in my mouth upon typing that last sentence.

Why is this trailer trash news? Can we get back to more important things?
