So let’s get this straight. Sumner Redstone, the chairman of CBS’s corporate parent, Viacom, wanted to cozy up to the Republicans for whatever business reason. So he let the big “60 Minutes II” expose air, expecting that it would probably cost Bush votes in November? Not quite, says Document Dan — he was in China at the time and incommunicado because … he didn’t have a cell-phone or e-mail, I guess?
The bit at the beginning about him allegedly being “uncomfortable” with some of the documents is news to me.

That victim mentality thng has taken over our culture .He actually thinks he can sell it, and by the posts at Huffpo, it looks like he has ri many on the left.
bbz123 on September 21, 2007 at 6:57 PM
Pathetic. No one takes responsibility for their actions. There are always intervening forces. Are we men or are we mice? Where’s the cheese again?
Spirit of 1776 on September 21, 2007 at 6:59 PM
So, is it just me, or is he basically saying that the money and position he had were more important to him than going aginst the boss and telling the truth? Loser in any scenrio.Big time loser. No courage whatsoever.
bbz123 on September 21, 2007 at 7:04 PM
Still waiting on that apology to Fox News, Dan.
Gotta love those White House memo talking points.
Hawkins1701 on September 21, 2007 at 7:04 PM
Can it be possible that he even believes what he is saying? How can anyone sit there and contradict themelves like that?
Resolute on September 21, 2007 at 7:04 PM
That’s an easy one Resolute. The guy is nuts!
OBX Pete on September 21, 2007 at 7:08 PM
Contradictions? Libs live by them.Nothing new here, except for the well-managed mask coming off.
bbz123 on September 21, 2007 at 7:10 PM
The questioning he takes in court will be great theatre, of course Huffpo will character assasinate everyone and ignore the large holes in Dan’s web of half-truths and outright lies.
Theworldisnotenough on September 21, 2007 at 7:11 PM
I agree with Bill O’ Reilly’s take that this is going to be ugly. Rather is going to be shown for the low life hack that’s coming across in these interviews, and in return he’s going try to take down as many people at CBS as possible.
BadgerHawk on September 21, 2007 at 7:15 PM
Better stock up on the Orville Redenbacher’s and the Diet Coke.

I just got a frozen pizza and a case of beer.

If the lawyers pitted against Rather were to be lawyers hired by those truly antagonistic to Rather’s claims, claims about the nature of the documents, about the nature of how CBS went about its busines, about the collusion between CBS vis-a-vis Rather and Mapes and the Kerry campaign, etc… then I’d be getting the popcorn ready. But the lawyers hired by CBS are going to be walking a tight-rope. Making Rather look bad makes CBS by definition look bad. Where to draw the line? I’m afraid the line will be drawn by CBS and its lawyers in such a way that muddies things more, gives the Left more claim to say–see nothing is proven, nothing is conclusive, and ultimately is more problematic than welcome. CBS is everybit as culpable as Dan, and thus Dan has them by the nuts. If CBS chooses to make a public confession by way of this case, a mea culpa extraodinaire that exposes the overwhelming biased way of doing things there, then and only then, will Dan get his just desserts. I’m not optimistic. p.s. if CBS wanted to win the ratings battle again, such a mea culpa, would be a wonderful strategy. You’d lose the Kos/Huff hardcores, but you’d gain many more viewers in the end.
dan on September 21, 2007 at 7:28 PM
Word, Dan, if the head bean is a WH “toadie”, he should come out and say “sorry I let these commie tards like Mapes and Rather run my news division for so long. They’re history and now we will give Fox a run for the VRWC ratings.” They would actually do great if they had the Malkins to do that.
bbz123 on September 21, 2007 at 7:36 PM
I just had my ice cream and I ate it too.
As long as I’m eating ice cream I can listen to as many brain damaged Dan Rather stories as the world can possibly be produce……
But when I run out of strawberries and cream flavored ice cream…..
Well then……. you better watch out.
Mcguyver on September 21, 2007 at 7:49 PM
I question the timing, dammit!
Califemme on September 21, 2007 at 7:49 PM
Either his hemorrhoids are getting the best of him or he was quite uneasy in that chair.
malkinmania on September 21, 2007 at 7:54 PM
Allahpundit needs to post this.
I love new technology like Youtube, now everyone can go back and look at how stupid Rather’s old reports were.
That delusional guy did that horrible story above. He should be torn of any credibility.
Win Win Win on September 21, 2007 at 7:56 PM
He’s just one lie compounded on another. House of cards? Looks more like a skyscraper of cards.
The depositions in Rather’s lawsuit will bring it all crashing down.
stonemeister on September 21, 2007 at 7:56 PM
I think the fact he is doing a tv interview and discussing the facts of the case indicate that he knows this will never get to court. If he thought it would, his lawyers would not let him appear on tv to create testimonial evidence or statements that could possibly be used against him at trial. So to me this is revenge and trying to save face….guess he couldn’t leave the stage with everyone having such a poor opinion of him…
I like Covuto…good style and substance…
CCRWM on September 21, 2007 at 7:57 PM
Mr. Dan has had a long time to rationalize this one.
Just like our favorite conspiracy theorists, if the facts don’t fit, ignore them.

Win Win Win on September 21, 2007 at 7:56 PM
I went and viewed the clip and I just might be displaying my ignorance but…why is the story bad? I’m asking to know not to criticize…I just don’t know much about Zimbawe…or are you referring to the violence that did ensue in South Africa for a bit after apartied? Aren’t economic conditions there for blacks better now?
CCRWM on September 21, 2007 at 8:08 PM
I agree. Will dan go back and correct this too? this hand job piece for mugabe is a laugher in 2007. If you google some of the names in that story:
the first guy - farm was taken from him by the government
the last guy (the pm) - is now living in exile under death threats
wonder if dan would like to correct this record as well.
lorien1973 on September 21, 2007 at 8:26 PM
A perfect example of someone who is clearly orbiting Pluto!
sharinlite on September 21, 2007 at 8:26 PM
with the 8000% inflation rate and pitiful economic conditions, life isn’t better for anyone. aren’t they cooking up dogs for food there now?
lorien1973 on September 21, 2007 at 8:27 PM
Your moment of zen.

It would be worse if he orbited Uranus!

Remember this?
Fast forward to 6:40. One of the best moments of George Bush Sr’s career. Dan looked dumbfounded.

Fixed.
Wingo on September 21, 2007 at 9:15 PM
Geh!
Radjah beat me!
Wingo on September 21, 2007 at 9:15 PM
Higher wood content: Rather or Gore?
Discuss.
Wingo on September 21, 2007 at 9:18 PM
Dan rather has gone totally insane.
Really nutso.
It’s all a vast right-wing conspiracy.
Has nothing at all with him pushing forward a story based falsified memos designed to discredit a sitting President of the United States.
Christoph on September 21, 2007 at 9:41 PM
Now you know why Dan Rather doesn’t have a job.
It’s not hard to imagine that he’s been just like this to work with for years before Katie picked up his slot.
Speakup on September 21, 2007 at 10:05 PM
Ha! Great link.

And why CBS News is the most reliable /sarc
Kini on September 21, 2007 at 11:00 PM
He’s simply delusional. Hubris does that to ya, Dan.

WEAK… If that’s the level of his reporting skills no wonder he left CBS News in shambles.
FireDrake on September 22, 2007 at 12:42 AM
Charles better dust off the blinking document over at LGF.
BDavis on September 22, 2007 at 1:16 AM
Dan Rather == BIG LIAR!
georgej on September 22, 2007 at 4:03 AM
He’s a wrinkled old valve just like Rivers. Love Neil Cavuto. The only people worth watching on Fox now are Neil, the Boss, Gibby and David Asman. But the women are the best and even Susan Estrich can’t unbalance their good looks.
LtE126 on September 22, 2007 at 8:12 AM
Just because he got his talking points from the Left, he thinks Fox got it from the Right.
Typical liberal, if they cheat, they think everyone cheats, if they take illegal funds they think everyone takes illegal funds, if they make up stories they think their enemy’s make up stories…and if they lie, it’s okay because everyone else lies.
Typical liberal
right2bright on September 22, 2007 at 9:51 AM
Neil is so smooth. Maybe better than anyone in the business, he knows how to cut folks off at the knees and yet leave them smiling. He’s a real pro.
petefrt on September 22, 2007 at 1:54 PM
I finally get it - being a liberal means one is never wrong. Never!
So, I’m now a liberal. And I’m always right, no matter what. Gosh, this is the greatest feeling, ever!

No more needs to be said……
It needs to be sung!

Thanks, Dan, for clearing that up.
Top Management thought a Republican was better than a Democrat for Viacom, so while Top Managment was in China (where there is no communication), Top Management decided to release the story WITHOUT Top Management’s approval.
