“We had a brief acquaintance, but I was specifically inspired by Travis Manion when we met that chilly evening in January. Here was a young man - ridiculously athletic, smart and good-looking - who could have enjoyed a life of ease with the world at his feet, yet instead chose one of the most difficult paths imaginable. His subsequent actions and ultimate passing have inspired me even more, and continue to inspire others.
‘Let all know too, we shall fight on, insh’allah (as God wills), as Mulazam Manion would want, and would do,’ said Col. Garza.”
Update: Bill Ardolino notes below that Travis Manion’s family will be following the comments on his blog post. Please leave your condolences at INDC Journal and consider donating to the memorial fund.

The man’s life obviously left an impression. And his departure a void. We too mark your passing, Travis Manion. Rest in peace.

It sucks that we’re losing such fine, brave men and women so that the libs can drink their lattes in peace while complaining about the war. The ultimate irony.
Thank you to ALL of our Brave Ones and their Families. It’s because of them that I need not for the life of my daughter.
Tony737 on September 20, 2007 at 11:13 PM
oooops! That should say “… need not FEAR for the …”

God bless him. The world is so much richer for his life. He had real purpose and a real destiny. Wow!

Winning hearts and minds, and rolling up jihadis. What more could we ask for?
Thank you, Travis. What a terrible loss.

Travis, you and your fellow Soldiers are superior to the rest of us.
Our words don’t mean much. Your sacrifice and example to the world mean freedom for those who can discern, and for those who can’t.

It is difficult to type with the tears in my eyes. God bless Travis, his family, and his fellow Marines.

Texas Nick 77: I had tears in my eyes as well. He seemed like an incredible young man.
(Waiting for John Murtha’s comment…….)

Lt. Manion is a true hero. Not only for America and Iraq but also for all those in the free world willing to open their eyes.
May his memory live on in song, in verse and in the very hearts all those he fought to protect… all those he loved so genuinely. For “there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for a friend.”
God bless the mourning family and all those Lt. Manion fought for and beside.
12thman on September 21, 2007 at 8:34 AM
I disagree with George Patton that it is wrong to mourn the death of such men as Lt. Manion, but I do agree with him that we should be thankful that such a man lived.
God bless him and his family. Such people make the world a better place.

No words. Just no words.
The pit in my stomach says it all.
Miss_Anthrope on September 21, 2007 at 9:25 AM
That got me freakin misty.
That is what America is all about. That is the spirit this country hopes to live up to. He is the soaring symbol of bravery and courage.
My heart goes out to his family, along with the assurance that while he may be gone, his mark has been left in this world, a mark that will not soon be washed away by time.

Thank you for your service and dedication to this country, Travis.

Hmmm…trying to leave a comment ended up with a “Precondition Error”. Happen to anyone else?
MadisonConservative on September 21, 2007 at 9:46 AM
My sentiments actually. A man that would lay down his life in service to others……there is no greater sacrifice. God has prepared a special place for him in heaven as He has done for all those in the past and those in the future.
From one grateful American and a grateful nation, thank you, Lt. Manion. Thank you.

Condolences left.
There are no words fit enough for such men.
Mommynator on September 21, 2007 at 10:26 AM
The sad part is the traitors on the left spit on his sacrifice while declaring the path he chose is the standard choice of losers with no other options (unlike say, Democratic House and Senate members born with golden spoons in their mouths).
Rest in peace Travis Manion. You’re going off to heaven, you’ve spent your time in hell.
BKennedy on September 21, 2007 at 10:39 AM
Those of us who live our quiet comfortable lives back home owe more than we can ever repay to the young men and women like Travis Manion. There are no words to express the gratitude I have for the heros that work so hard for so little thanks. God bless you Travis. And God bless your family. They deserve both the credit for raising such a fine young man, as well as our most heartfelt, deepest condolences. My 3 boys and I will pray for you this evening. And I will tell them the story of Travis Manion.
edgehead on September 21, 2007 at 10:51 AM
Words cannot describe how proud I am to live in a country that produces young men of the caliber of Travis.
God Bless him and his family.

“And He will raise you up on eagle’s wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His Hand.”
From Hymn “On Eagle’s Wings” based on Isaiah 40:31
I am sorry for your trouble.

To Travis Manion, United States Marine, hero, and citizen of the United States of America:
I humbly draw my NCO sword in tribute to you. As a combat Marine in Vietnam, I’m less than you were and are. May your family honor your spirit and know that they had raised and nutured a wonderful man. May we, as citizens, understand the sacrifice and the desire you gave in service to our country. I will never allow, in my humble way, your courage and duty be forgotten or lessened.
