How soon will we see the Tom Tancredo Pedestrian Bridge linking Matamoros and Windsor?

Our refuge system is a messed up…
even deserters get a hearing, feh!
Canadian Imperialist Running Dog on September 20, 2007 at 12:00 AM
Canadians are such soft hearted suckers.
Maybe we can build an illegal alien super highway from the Mexican border right up to Canada.
Boy, how would Tancredo feel about that idea?

The journey of 1,000 miles begins with one step.
Across the northern border.
Allahpundit on September 20, 2007 at 12:06 AM
OK, so now we are the bad guys for enforcing our laws. The question is are these guys refugees of America or Mexico? They say they can’t go back to Mexico, but they don’t want to come to America because we will send them to Mexico if we catch them.
This is all you have to do to solve the 12 million already here. If you enforce the law, you won’t have to ’round them up’, they’ll leave for the most part.
I hope their health care system is ready up there in Canada ( I know they aren’t).
ThackerAgency on September 20, 2007 at 12:08 AM
If 180 illegals constitutes a urgent crisis in Windsor what will they think when 12 to 20 million stream across their border asking for handouts or taking Canadian jobs.

Good, now stay up there and suck their system dry.
dawgsleadtheway on September 20, 2007 at 12:11 AM
Just like here in the USA, when the social system in Canada collapses, you will here repeated Canadian calls for “secure the border.”
When Canadian Emergency Rooms are filled to over-capacity due to illegals seeking minor, non-urgent, outpatient health care, the Canadian calls for “securing the border” will be heard.
When schools become over-crowded, when home prices plummet in value due to 3 families living in single family homes, and when crime increases, then the Canadians will tighten the border again.
It is just a matter of time.
ColtsFan on September 20, 2007 at 12:13 AM
I should have done preview first.
I meant to say,
“Just like here in the USA, when the social system in Canada financially collapses, you will HEAR repeated calls for “secure the border.”

Heh. And nonfactor is nonplussed. Huh. Can’t wait to hear the moaning and wailing from Ontario when we crank them up to 1,000 unskilled Mexican surprise immigrants.
But not to worry, when we get them their first 1,000,000, they should have the immigrant processing systems running like clockwork. The next 10,000,000 will be much easier…
Jaibones on September 20, 2007 at 12:30 AM
I didn’t read the whole story, but isn’t this a Carlos Mencia joke? Maybe it was someone else, but they essentially said that the solution would be to let them all come here.. because they’re trying to get away from Mexicans.. if we let all the Mexicans come here, they’ll keep going north to get away from themselves.
RightWinged on September 20, 2007 at 12:30 AM

It is obvious to me that he was doing two jobs that American clitizens wouldn’t do. No American would want to rent a house in Naples, Fl.(large enough for a wife and three kids and where the rent isn’t cheap) and buy a van. How dare America chase away this fine upstanding criminal, and force an American citizen to get a job(s) that will allow him to house his family and provide transportation.
I agree with Allah.

Canada.com is pushing the story ’cause it’s a slam on the US. Once they find these are alerting Canadians they’ll, they’ll start to neutralize the stories. When the numbers hit the 100,000 the stories be a happy and sanitized “guess the nationality”.
By 150,000 they’ll be burying the stories. Before it hits 200,000 the counting will have stopped, the stats blurred, and the pols will hedge and ignore until Canadians wake up one day with 6 or 8 million, just like happened here.
Quebec will secede but I’ll lay two to one odds the official language won’t be French.

Doesn’t these people being refugees imply that both Mexico and Florida are horribly oppressive states which abuse human rights on the level of Cuba or Iran?
I’m glad to an American, but if I were Mexican I don’t think I could honestly argue that the Mexican is as evil to its people as the world’s truly evil dictatorships.
thuja on September 20, 2007 at 6:21 AM
Oh the Mexicans. Why are we so hostile? Because there are WAY TOO MANY. Compared to folks from so many other places around the world.
What really is at the heart of it? It is that 20 million is an ARMY. Enough to make any social, economic change they wish in Mexico – if they would only try. But hey don’t.
Viva la revolution! When was the last time you heard of a protest March in Mexico?

Don’t think anyone is watching yet,,,WE ARE. that’s why your leaving…the French are going to love you up there..
Legions on September 20, 2007 at 7:04 AM
So, if America wont take them back, and they have to have a valid claim for asylum, what will Canada do with them? Deport them to the north pole? What then? Santa’s elves aren’t going to give up their jobs. I figure Santa will deport them to Russia, Russia will deport them southward. And so on and so forth until they get to Antarctica and the Penguins deport them to Argentina. Eventually the will end up back in Mexico where they belong.
This is obviously just a vast Mexican conspiracy to travel the world without spending a dime on transportation, food, or lodging. Cleaver bastards!
csdeven on September 20, 2007 at 7:32 AM
In order to survive from one generation to the next, parasites have a series of distinct developmental stages and hosts collectively known as a life cycle. Life cycles range from a simple, single host that is home to the larval and adult stages of a parasite, to the more complex life cycles requiring one host for the developmental stage of the parasite and a second host for the adult stage.
coldshot on September 20, 2007 at 7:33 AM
Stories like this just warm my heart. It blows away the old “but we can’t deport all 12 million.” All we have to do is start, and the others will leave of their own accord.
Unfortunately, then I read stories like this:

Quebec was paying for people, from anywhere that could speak French, to move there and was paying something like $10K if they were willing stay. The U.S. needs to hand out pamphlets on conversational French and pass them through.
When I can stop pressing “1″ for English, it will be a good day.
Hening on September 20, 2007 at 8:09 AM
Waaaaah, boo hoo hoo!
What the hell is wrong with these people? You have a chance, you have your own country, fight to change it instead of running away.
Why do they wave the Mexican flag, that’s a bunch of BS, they have no national pride. I’m thoroughly disgusted now. We don’t need tens of millions of whiny cowards.
reaganaut on September 20, 2007 at 8:27 AM

Obviously you haven’t seen one of our emergency rooms. The average wait time is about 4-5 hours unless you happen to come in from an ambulance, then you’ll be lucky to spend 2 hours waiting (assuming you survive).
Canadian Imperialist Running Dog on September 20, 2007 at 9:26 AM
Gee, sounds just like the American Dream- IF THESE PEOPLE WEREN’T &^*%98 ILLEGALS!
Shame on us for not enforcing our laws in the past but that doesn’t make us the bad guys when we begin cracking down on illegals now. I note with interest that Florida’s illegals are rushing north when the SOUTHERN border (and home countries) are much closer.

Esthier on September 20, 2007 at 9:48 AM
It’s all warm and fuzzy until they over-run your hospitals, drain your infrastructure, buckle your education resources, tap out your social services, break your law enforcement resources, accept 1/3 of the going rate to perform your job, multiply and change the demographics to the point where your neighborhood is unrecognizable, your local culture is ursurped, your property values decrease, gangs pop-up, low riders zip around, and washing machines are thrown out on the front lawn remaining there for years.
Enjoy the generous welcome while you can, Jose, it will be short lived, I can assure you that. Canadians may be nutty, but they aren’t stupid, even the cute little seals get their heads bashed in because they deplete the fishing industry resources.

Miss_Anthrope on September 20, 2007 at 11:33 AM
Just an FYI, this did happen to my husband. He was unemployed almost 2 years because of sh*t like this, which is why I made that statement.
Would rather not get into details about it, because it’s just too painful, but let’s just say it was pretty clear that even being incredibly reasonable about pay despite his phenomenal talent didn’t make it easier for him.
Miss_Anthrope on September 20, 2007 at 11:39 AM
From the article:
It used to be that America was where people like that came. I guess we don’t want people like that anymore. We’re too good for them or something. Now we want to turn the country into an exclusive gated community. If you want to realize your dreams, go to Canada … America is closed.
Personally, I think it’s sad.
crosspatch on September 20, 2007 at 12:14 PM
Good point, but I bet they’re surprised to see how happy Americans are that this is happening.
No doubt, Dusty. It will look like the British press’ coverage of their muslim problems, “Mohammed Islami, Yussuf Jihadi, and Osama Mohammed were all arrested … No connection between the perpetrators was readily apparent …”.
They will try to hide the flow, but the Quebecois will react violently to the imposition of Spanish and the rest of Canada will notice the increasing sluggishness of public programs.
In the end, such a population movement would almost surely be enough to tip Quebec solidly into the separation camp, and I don’t think that bodes well for our Union, here. Quebec is a little too close (and Canada is considered too much to be like the US) and its separation would spark secessionist feelings in the US, from Vermont to Utah to the Southwest, that has rapidly increasing populations whose allegiances lie with Mexico and not the US.
This whole illegal movement is the most destabilizing force that we have seen since the Civil War. Very, very dangerous.
progressoverpeace on September 20, 2007 at 12:24 PM
I think it’s sad that you just said that.
America is still a place for hardworking people to come, but guess what, they have to do it legally or, you’re right, we’re NOT interested. I don’t really think expecting people not to break our laws makes us an “exclusive gated community.”
hollygolightly on September 20, 2007 at 12:25 PM
Sorry for your troubles Miss_A.
I wasn’t really addressing the whole “illegal alien” issue, as it’s been beaten to death and I don’t think we’re going to unearth any surprising revelations anytime soon.
I was just making a flip comment on the whole “taking jobs” attitude of many people (I wasn’t needling you personally). Like a job is a pork chop that someone took from your husband, like it ‘belonged’ to him…jobs are employers’ to award, and if you get undercut, c’est la vie.
S’all
Ochlan on September 20, 2007 at 12:30 PM
It’s called “National Sovereignty” and those gates are called “Borders”.
Yes, go to Canada. They’re nicer.
From your comments, I don’t believe that you think, at all.
progressoverpeace on September 20, 2007 at 12:32 PM
If we can’t build a fence to keep them out of America, Let’s construct a path that leads directly into Canada.
ackrite55 on September 20, 2007 at 1:06 PM
I do want to point out that, while I’m definitely for enforcing our borders rigorously and finding ways to deport illegals (preferably by mainly promoting “self-deportation”), the sad thing is that this first wave is likely going to be mainly the good, (post-illegal-migration)law-abiding of the bunch. The ones with something to lose…these are likely the ‘hard working’ people that ‘they’ are constantly referring to.
The gang members, thugs and leeches won’t likely run for the borders quite so quickly. Since we’re unlikely to completely eliminate all illegal immigrants (and possibly not even most), I do fear that we’re most likely going to wind up with only the worst of the lot.
I guess I’m mostly encouraged by this report…but I don’t think I can really be “happy” about it.
No solutions, just a lament.
pjaromin on September 20, 2007 at 1:11 PM
If Mexico would just let a few million of us immigrate, buy land and business, and run for office, we could fix this mess. That country should be rich, with all of its resources and yes, hard-working, decent people.
NellE on September 20, 2007 at 1:11 PM
I gotcha…and usually I agree ’cause I’m flexible about adding skills to get/remain employed, but seeing what he endured makes it tough to maintain that perspective. He’s such a hard worker & so talented, and so reasonable about salary that ‘normal’ competition never worried us, but this was just too much.
No problems, though, you know that…even when we disagree. I just didn’t get what you meant, for some reason. A li’l stoopid today. ;)
Besides, he just got a job, and it’s because you have to be a citizen to work for the company! Go figure, eh?
