Was the tasing of the moonbat a publicity stunt?

CNN’s all over it. He gave a video camera he’d brought with him to the student next to him and asked her to film him — right before he started laying into Kerry. His demeanor “completely changed” once he was in the squad car and away from the cameras, say the cops; “you didn’t do anything wrong,” he allegedly told them — before asking if there were any cameras in the jail they were taking him to. He had no ID on him at the time of the arrest according to what he told the cops with 1:57 left in this afternoon’s video — but he did have a business card for his dopey vanity website, per the CNN report.
Dude. Dude.
Seriously, though, could he really have set out to get tased this way? If the goal was to end up on the news, wouldn’t it have been a safer bet to pie Kerry and then tempt fate by resisting arrest? Being obnoxious at the microphone on the off-chance that the cops would get annoyed and snatch at him seems a mighty circuitous route to media immortality. Exit question: Stunt or no stunt?
Update: Surprise.

Moonbat.
amerpundit on September 18, 2007 at 11:16 PM
Stunt, by the way.
amerpundit on September 18, 2007 at 11:16 PM
Kerry asked if he could get a purple heart for that confrontation.
Tim Burton on September 18, 2007 at 11:17 PM
Dude, it was definitely a stunt. But that doesn’t excuse the police action.
He baited the police by saying ‘are you going to arrest me?’ and ‘are you going to tase me?’
they assumed that by him saying ‘are you going to arrest me’ that he knew they were going to arrest him.
He can’t have figured the cops would take the bait though. . . that’s what makes it so sad. Had the cops not participated this would have been a non-event
ThackerAgency on September 18, 2007 at 11:18 PM
I would put money on him having himself tasered beforehand to check out if he could handle it.
I will wait for Chris Matthews apology for his cravenly being taken in by a rank amateur.
bbz123 on September 18, 2007 at 11:19 PM
HE WANTED TO HECKLE KERRY ON FILM. That’s what he likes to do. But when the cops stepped in, it just became comical. . . and yes, he wanted attention.
But now he’s got at least a free ride as long as he’s in school in FL. And probably free football and basketball tickets for life.
ThackerAgency on September 18, 2007 at 11:20 PM
I think it’s a stunt, and quite irritating.
Haha, Tim. I doubt he’ll get one, but I’m sure we will be subjected to ‘I remember that cold Christmas in the auditorium’ stories now.

He may not have been sure exactly what he was gonna do, but he probably had a good idea, he was gonna at least make a huge scene at the Q&A. I think he was half serious about the points he was rambling about, probably was trying to get a Code Pink type drag away.

This guy got the results he so desperately wanted to achieve.
Now the Cops are in trouble, the College administration and the MSM will glorify him and he’s in punk player paradise.
Next week he’ll make the talk show circuit and envious radical punks like him all over the country will get the message that they can manipulate, disrupt, get busted and get rewarded.

Hahahahaha!
Stunt that went wildly out of control. I’m sure he wanted to cause trouble and get attention but this worked out so much better than he could have imagined. When he was getting shoved up the isle notice that he did his best to stay in the hall with the rest of the crowd. He could have left and avoided the taser but he ran back. He really baited those campus police and they took it.
Bill C on September 19, 2007 at 12:05 AM
Stunt, but the taser was more than he bargained for. And more than he deserved. If a conservative was tased for confronting Rosie or Hillary, we would find the tasing way over the top…yes, he’s a moonbat, but moonbats shouldn’t be tasered for being moonbats.
JustTruth101 on September 19, 2007 at 12:08 AM
So, is this guy really a moonbat, or is he a phony-moonbat? The kind that’s just looking for 15 minutes of moonbat fame (as opposed to actual moonbats that truly believe the crap that spews out of their mouths).
Rick on September 19, 2007 at 12:08 AM
He is one who would dress up as bad Santa and submit questions for the YouTube debates. One good thing about him and OJ. It keeps the country from talking about Billarycare.

He’s also apparently a Ron Paul supporter.

I am so pissed about this OJ story for exactly that reason. Hillary must have set this up and timed it to follow Larry Craig. This is going to continue until the day after election day when suddenly all the tabloid stories will dry up and we’ll be hearing about Big Villages again.
Buy Danish on September 19, 2007 at 12:27 AM
He couldn’t have seen the tasing coming..he doesn’t seem bright enough. I think there is some truth to him doing this as a stunt to get hired by a network…our society rewards these idiots…I give it a month and Matthews is looking for a new job.

So . . . are you saying that the Tasing of the Moonbat is Much Ado About Nothing?
Ken McCracken on September 19, 2007 at 12:57 AM
Wrong answer, if he were a conservative and acted that way he would have been just as deserving of whatever force the officers deemed necessary to subdue him. Nor would he be getting any pity, love or respect for his actions. Unlike liberals and moonbats conservatives do not tolerate inexcusable behavior just because it is a conservative behaving badly.

He didn’t get tased for confronting Kerry.

Sooooo…all the lefties who said the cops should be fired etc. etc. are going to be all 180 tomorrow?
Also, I think it’s hilarious that this guy was screaming in pain like a little girl for the cameras and then all chill out of view. Weekly standard blogger Michael Golfarb blogged he’s been tazed and it wasn’t all that bad (or like the guy was screaming) and Balloon Juice freaked out at WS post. Balloon stupid gets faced!
Got to love the pretzels those lefties tie themselves into.
Topsecretk9 on September 19, 2007 at 2:27 AM
Here’s the police report.
According to the report, he kicked several officers, lifted one off the ground, punched a number of them, and more.
http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/2007/images/09/18/offense.report.072274.pdf
Had I been him, I’d have at least expected to be tazered, if not pepper-sprayed.
Looks like the cops did what was necessary to restrain someone acting violently and resisting arrest. Sure, they could have not used the tazer and just beat him down until he submitted to being cuffed. Personally, I’d prefer the tazer to the billy club.
He deserved what he got, and judging from his website, which conveniently had it’s hitcounter reset before this event and a the only identification he was carrying was a business card advertising said website. He not only got what he deserved, but got what he was expecting.

What a class-A jerk if he did do this as a stunt. Ask any law enforcement professional how they feel about being put on administrative leave or disciplined for doing their jobs as they are trained to do. Weeks or months of professional standards reviews, being taken off their beat, having their names dragged through every press report on the matter: loads of fun at someone else’s expense.

And it’s only just beginning, folks. We think the 2000 Presidential election was something, the 2004 election season was something else, but the 2008 season is gonna be the “Mother of all election seasons!”
The biggest shame is, this is such an important time in World history…and all the Truther/CodePink/ANSWER/MoveOn circus of the stars (or wanna-be stars) seem to do is trivialize the importance.
The GOP (Fred!) better get that coffee brewing, pull a lot of all-nighters, and “get ‘er done!”

Sadly, yea, it looks like he handled it pretty well.
It sucks that the cops ended up tasing him. If they hadn’t all of the blame for this would have fallen on the moonbat.
BadgerHawk on September 19, 2007 at 9:10 AM
The police were placed in a no win situation. If they did not tase him and someone was injured, they would be blamed. If they allowed taser-boys rant and rage to continue they would be blamed for not following procedure and taser him to bring him under control.
Wade on September 19, 2007 at 9:23 AM
AGAIN. . . HE COMMMITTED NO CRIME!
I guess at all PUBLIC FORUMS, we can expect police to be there with TASERS in case you ‘get a little rowdy’ (meaning speak in a louder tone than they want).
Police ’said’ he kicked and punched them? OF COURSE AND POLICE NEVER LIE.
Here again, he didn’t commit a crime. He didn’t get violent, the police did. HE WAS TRYING TO GET AWAY FROM THEM. He wasn’t trying to attack them. I would have loved to have heard Kerry’s answer to the question and I’m sure he wanted to also. They never told him he was under arrest. He asked them if they were going to arrest him.
It is unfathomable to me that you people think this is OK behavior by the police. Who cares that ‘tasering doesn’t hurt?’ Unless he commits a crime, the police are overstepping their boundaries. Heckling at a public event in a microphone provided by the event IS NOT A CRIME.
HE COMMITTED NO CRIME YET WAS ARRESTED. AFTER HE WAS ARRESTED THEY ‘TRUMPED UP CHARGES’. If you look at the tape from the back of the room, the people in the front were all smiling and laughing at his rantings. None of them were ’scared’. He wasn’t a threat. He didn’t break any law. The police overstepped their boundaries and SHOULD BE PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE.
You people just want cops to be able to beat up anyone on authority of the government for any reason. Be careful what you wish for.
ThackerAgency on September 19, 2007 at 9:29 AM
Police scare the crap out of me BECAUSE OF stuff like this. They can arrest anyone for any reason in any manner, and you guys are OK with the PO PO.
ThackerAgency on September 19, 2007 at 9:33 AM
And I will add, they are lucky he is a white male.
ThackerAgency on September 19, 2007 at 9:33 AM
I dunno. Back when I was a reporter I saw boatloads of rowdy college kids written up for disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and criminal mischief.
Looks like disorderly conduct to me.
saint kansas on September 19, 2007 at 9:34 AM
written up, or beaten up? This is the problem. The police can call ANYTHING disorderly conduct for an excuse to arrest someone (when they arrest someone, that’s the only excuse they need to beat someone up and say they ‘resisted arrest’). He was asking a question in a public forum and objected to being manhandled after he asked the question.
This is why I don’t trust police. I DON’T HATE POLICE. I just get nervous when they are around because THEY CAN ARREST ANYONE FOR ANY REASON IN ANY MEANS AND IT IS THEIR WORD AGAINST MINE.
ThackerAgency on September 19, 2007 at 9:44 AM
This is why police don’t trust moonbats.
Yes, but how many other people there asked questions in the same public forum without incident? All of them. He gave off a ton of signs that he came there to do something; he bitched about waiting for two hours for them to get to him (with no guarantee that everyone was going to have a chance at the mic), he allegedly rushes the mic, jabbers like he’s on crank, swats away the cops after a tap on the arm… I consider myself fortunate not to have to make the call in a situation like that.
saint kansas on September 19, 2007 at 9:53 AM
You’re a one-trick
trollpony. A blind one at that.We understand you sympathize with the whacked-out Truther punk who thought it was his stage and thought that trespassing, disobeying, and then flailing around on policemen was a constitutional right given to all Asperger’s-afflicted mommie’s-basement-dwelling morons who can’t separate fantasy from reality. From your viewpoint, it’s perfectly natural I’m sure.
If you don’t see what the problem was with this guy’s actions and you think that the police just go around harrassing people and beating them up for no good reason at all, then you’re delusional and not worth the time. If you’re just to get a rise out of people, then you’re a punk like that guy is and you’re not worth the time.
And yes, I’m a fascist and a meanie and whatever other little commie epithet you wish to spew. I’ve also never been arrested, mainly because I do what the police want me to do when they stop me.
angryoldfatman on September 19, 2007 at 9:54 AM
Thacker… deep cleansing breaths. How about you organize a meeting somewhere and let me know where it is. Then we’ll have a friendly wager on if you can get anything at all done after I’ve gotten to the microphone to use my “free speech”. I can talk a long, long… long time.
This guy did this on purpose, came in and cut to the front of the line, rambled on past his allotted time and would not yield the mic when asked. he knew the result and asked someone to catch it on film. He’s done this sort of thing before.
Personally, I’m utterly amazed that people finding out this was a stunt is a surprise to anyone.
Dash on September 19, 2007 at 10:00 AM
This is where you are wrong. But I know you sympathize with the all powerful controlling police who beat up a defenseless person who was contributing to a town hall forum.
I have been arrested before and I did cooperate, but my attorney got the charges dropped for police misconduct - imagine that. Maybe, fat man, if you were in that situation, you’d feel differently about the authority that you want to grant police who’s motives can be in doubt on occassion.
ThackerAgency on September 19, 2007 at 10:03 AM
Dash, I just think I need to be in law because I’d make a killing if you guys are going to accept this kind of behavior by police. Had the police done nothing, nothing would have happened.

Thacker -
He was non-compliant when they went to escort him out. He did not have the right to be there while disturbing the proceedings. Then, he resisted, and they warned him: Stop resisting or you will be tased. He continued to resist arrest, and they tased him. I don’t know how this is wrong. Non-compliance, and then active resistance of arrest, do not equal “he did nothing wrong.”

Which he did. Then he prevented others there from being able to speak. What about their rights?
Jim Treacher on September 19, 2007 at 12:21 PM
Exactly his rights ended the moment he begun infringing on the rights of the other people there. The fact that a person has rights does not mean that their rights trump the rights of others.

Coulda fooled them.
Jim Treacher on September 19, 2007 at 12:37 PM
You have 15 seconds to comply…or else
I think everyone else was at all times capable of opening their mouths and exercising their vocal chords…y’know…speaking
Perhaps you’re referring to the difficulty of being heard over anothers’ yabbering…that’s a separate thing entirely. Do you have a right to be heard? I don’t think so…at least, not from my understanding of what ‘rights’ actually are.
A breach of etiquette, protocol, general bad manners…sure…but not a suppression of anyones rights.
Ochlan on September 19, 2007 at 12:45 PM

Miss_Anthrope on September 19, 2007 at 12:56 PM
Why does Meyer, then?
Jim Treacher on September 19, 2007 at 4:30 PM
Stunt, exacerbated by the fact they sent the tiniest cops to deal with him. He ranted, had his mike turned off, and was asked to leave. He refused, and resisted arrest. He was obviously thrashing around, and it looks like he hit several of the cops, I think by accident, since he’s too much of a (explitive that would get me sent to rehab deleted) to do it on purpose.
By the time he was saying he’d leave it was already far too late. He’d swung at cops, which is as big a no-no as it gets. He was tazed only after repeated warnings to stop struggling. That “Ow! Ow! Ow!” was pure BS. Want pain? Try a baton to the kidneys.
Odds are, if the cops had sent their big guys down instead of the tiny woman, things wouldn’t have gotten so far out of hand. Intimidation is just as important as the badge and gun. There’s a reason the old NYPD went out of it’s way to hire ‘Irish Whales’.
To anyone (*cough*Thacker*cough*) who says I’m an intolerant misogynistic fascist, I say:
You know me, sir!
