Video: Petraeus is Bush’s “stooge,” sneers Maher

Via Newsbusters. Maliki earns the coveted Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death “stooge” seal of disapproval too, which is no mean feat considering he’s suspected of being a stooge for Iran. Any peg Bill can find on which to hang his look of smug, contemptuous enlightenment is sturdy enough for use.

Anyway, the clip’s just the bait to get you here. The real news, per Politico, is the collapse of negotiations between the Democrats and GOP fencesitters, whose wavering support for the war has been reinforced — temporarily — by Petraeus’s report. Reid can’t get 60 votes for a compromise measure so we’re looking at another round of hardline timetable measures that’ll pass, be promptly filibustered by the GOP, and then spun by each side as proof of the other’s recalcitrance. There’s a companion piece at Politico explaining why that strategy’s a big loser for us unless and until the war turns around. Quote: “We’re going to smash their heads against their base and flush them down the toilet.” That’s a peacenik talking about Republicans, FYI, not al Qaeda.

Update: Sounds like it was John Warner, newly freed from re-election worries since his decision to retire last month, who buggered the compromise.

On exactly what basis does Maher make this assertion? What personal knowledge does this twit possess about Petraeus?

drjohn on September 18, 2007 at 9:25 PM

He is correct…..utter nonsense. Great name for Bill’s next TV show.

Limerick on September 18, 2007 at 9:27 PM

“We’re going to smash their heads against their base and flush them down the toilet.” That’s a peacenik talking about Republicans..

BRING IT turdblossoms!

FireFly on September 18, 2007 at 9:27 PM

New Rule: Comedians have got to stop acting like they can talk policy.
Maher, you are a far cry from Shakespeare’s Fool.

VolMagic on September 18, 2007 at 9:27 PM

I won’t watch that swine. Vile is not on my menu tonight.

bbz123 on September 18, 2007 at 9:28 PM

You can’t trick us into caring about hard news, AP, so stop trying.

frankj on September 18, 2007 at 9:29 PM

Wasn’t he lecturing us about narcissism last week?

Kensington on September 18, 2007 at 9:30 PM

Hey AP, did you change it from “A big loss for the GOP” to “a big loser for us”?

Trying to buff up those conservative credentials? (wink)

VolMagic on September 18, 2007 at 9:31 PM

Am I the only one who thinks that Bill Maher looks like a cross between a Leprecon and a Ferengi?

MB4 on September 18, 2007 at 9:33 PM

Bill Maher is a F**ktard. His usual “You don’t agree with me so nothing you say can possibly be the truth” line is not only stupid, but ignorant. And I’m still waiting to be enlightened on his qualifications to do anything but be a lackey for the far left.

Kowboy on September 18, 2007 at 9:35 PM

Hey AP, did you change it from “A big loss for the GOP” to “a big loser for us”?

Yeah, but just because I was using “GOP” too much in the post.

Allahpundit on September 18, 2007 at 9:36 PM

“We’re going to smash their heads against their base and flush them down the toilet.” That’s a peacenik talking about Republicans.

Oh, really…Is that a policy from the Department of Peace and Non-Violence?

amerpundit on September 18, 2007 at 9:43 PM

Did Maher even listen to what Petraeus said? My God. Patraeus said, things aren’t bad, but they aren’t great. Things are slowly improving, but we still need time because they aren’t where they should be.

If Petreaus was Pres. Bush’s stooge, wouldn’t he be saying that everything is sunshine and lollipops, but the troops need to stay because the war is all about oil, er terrorism? Wouldn’t he be talking about how the military is winning and winning good?

I don’t remember Petraeus saying that – he was a little more realistic and coldly analytical than that. Of course, maybe Maher had trouble understanding him since the General was using really big words. And you know, talking strategy and about military issues. I truly doubt Maher knows which way to hold a gun, much less how to fight a war.

mjk on September 18, 2007 at 9:44 PM

So sick of this guy.

Sick of the self-righteous, smug face.

Can I replace the whack-a-mole, um, moles…..with his face? I’d put that in an arcade room.

Uh oh, that was snarky, wasn’t it?

Insulting Ronald Reagan will bring that out in me.

Hawkins1701 on September 18, 2007 at 9:48 PM

Didn’t take long for Bill to show his true colours.
What was it,three or four days.

canopfor on September 18, 2007 at 9:49 PM

luvin’ Maher’s fundamentalist preacher hairstyle

jediwebdude on September 18, 2007 at 9:57 PM

Um, why is Maher a source on Blitzers show?
You know Maher is vehemently hates Bush. So what’s the point?

Kini on September 18, 2007 at 9:57 PM

“It didn’t count if you were shot in the back of the head or the front of the head.”

Why does this distinction matter?

aengus on September 18, 2007 at 10:09 PM

Bill Maher is a rare kind of fellow. He has no talent, he is not funny, he is not credible, he is a pathetic little man. Completely ignorant himself, he attempts to portray himself as enlightened and open-minded, while denigrating anyone who dares to hold any differing views.
Someone tell me how in the world did he EVER make it anywhere? Oh, of course, he is a foul-mouthed Liberal, just the kind of man the left idolizes.

You know what gets me? According to Newsbusters it was a TEN MINUTE interview! Ten minutes? Are you kidding me? Why on earth would anybody think Bill Maher’s opinions deserved that long a segment?

radjah shelduck on September 18, 2007 at 10:34 PM

Oh look! It’s another Jackass with a public forum. Welcome to todays entertainment industry.

aengus on September 18, 2007 at 10:09 PM

It doesn’t. This was a lie put out by an anti-war group that the good general answered during his questioning in the House. One representative asked Petraeus point blank about this claim, and he said, of course, that the entry angle of a bullet wound has no impact on how it is classified. Just more lies that get told and told and retold even after having been debunked.

VolMagic on September 18, 2007 at 10:37 PM

This stuff isn’t even laughable anymore.

Could someone PLEASE explain what the Democrats have to gain by us losing Iraq? How is that a good thing for them and the country?

I used to just dislike them.

simon on September 18, 2007 at 10:40 PM

It honest to goodness sounded as if he hadn’t even listened to the Patreaus Report. One speech that has made a everlasting impression on me is by Bill Mahers ex writer for his show. He was as big a liberal as Bill is and his speech tells of his conversion over to conservatism and how a liberal thinks. If you can get past the first two minutes of introductory conversation..you won’t be able to stop listening..just go to youtube and in search type Evan Sayet. His speech is done at the Heritage Foundation and titled “How a Liberal Thinks”.

hotvol on September 18, 2007 at 10:47 PM

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) traveled to New York on Monday and huddled with leaders of the anti-Iraq-war movement, his latest effort to reassure this increasingly restive group that Democrats are doing everything they can to end the war.

I could never understand why his show was called “Politically Incorrect.”

Ahh, the ‘peace’ movement. Such shining examples of love and tolerance.

infidel4life on September 18, 2007 at 11:30 PM

Is Michael Totten a stooge, is Michael Yon?

lowandslow on September 19, 2007 at 12:06 AM

Maher is the living embodiment of psychological projection. WHo is he to talk about stooges? All he’s missing on the set are Moe and Larry.

BKennedy on September 19, 2007 at 12:13 AM

I actually saw this crap as it was taking place on CNN – the best part of the interview, and most telling, was when Wolfie asked Maher which GOP candidate (if any) he saw as the best of the GOP bunch – to which Maher responded “Ron Paul”

Rick on September 19, 2007 at 12:21 AM

Petraeus is Bush’s “stooge,” sneers Maher

Heh, pot meet kettle! Maher is the biggest and worst stooge (aka useful idiot) of all because he’s an Islamo-fascist stooge!

Liberty or Death on September 19, 2007 at 1:21 AM

Anyway, the clip’s just the bait to get you here.

Har de har!

.
.
How does this grab the ass kissing, pale faced gnomes:

They seem to be sticking with the president,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Tuesday. “I think they’ve decided they definitely want this to be the Republican Senate’s war, not just Bush’s [war].

Special memo to MB4:
Warning, War Hawks ahead!!

They’re jealous. They don’t want him to have it as only his war.”

Huh?

How does that feel to the “L” crowned gnomes?

Yuh, feeling good there? Running for the hijabs yet?

Can ya feel the looooooove?

I’m feeling groovy…..I’m feeling groovy……

Mcguyver on September 19, 2007 at 1:33 AM

Maher is an ass. Why he insist on proving it on a daily basis is beyond me.

.

GT on September 19, 2007 at 7:10 AM

I hate Bush…I hate the conservatives…Christians are fanatics…everyone who supports the war is a puppet…there is no bias…liberals are mainstream…

Now give me my own tv show.

right2bright on September 19, 2007 at 8:22 AM

If anyone is truly interested in Maher’s psychological reasoning you just need to watch the Lakoff link from yesterday. Stay with it till the end, because he makes a lot of sense up until he starts talking about what the dems should have done after Katrina. His liberal stupidity is on display in all it’s hilarious glory. The libs in my view are basically scared people. They are afraid of standing on their own two feet and gather their strength from knowing that if he were to fall down, another lib would be there to pick him up and it don’t matter that it was his own stupidity that caused his fall in the first place.

Says a lot about their complete disconnect with our troops and anyone else who is courageous in the face of uncertain odds, with no guarantee of the outcome. This is way I do not respect them. They are basically cowards. The reason why I can respect Lieberman is because he did stand up to uncertain odds and no guarantee of the outcome. And when the dems threw him under the bus and tried to destroy him, he didn’t look to others to save his a$$. He pulled himself up by his own bootstraps and fought back against his own supposed colleagues. That takes stones.

I could go on for days, but I think you get the drift.

csdeven on September 19, 2007 at 8:27 AM

I know this will sound rather shallow and pedantic of me, but I can’t help thinking that Maher’s face looks like a foot.

ZK on September 19, 2007 at 8:48 AM

New Rule:
Make the world a better place, punch Bill Maher in the face.

GREENTURTLE on September 19, 2007 at 9:15 AM

Maher is trying to be the next Rosie, but he seems closer to being the next talking cadaver, Harry Reid. He is supporting Edwards. That should tell us all we need to know about this intellectual runt.

volsense on September 19, 2007 at 9:30 AM

I hate Bill Maher. Why does anyone even give him a job, much less put him on TV? The less we have to see his mug here, AP, the better.

CP on September 19, 2007 at 9:57 AM

Mahers nose has an STD. After all, it’s bigger than his Olbersham like thumb tack. Penis face needs to get lost.

roninacreage on September 19, 2007 at 10:20 AM

But who’s stooge is Maher? Or is he just free-lancing?

Tantor on September 19, 2007 at 11:49 AM

Petraeus is Bush’s “stooge,” sneers Maher

If Petraeus is a stooge as you say, then you know the old saying, it takes a stooge to know a stooge.

Lawrence on September 19, 2007 at 11:49 AM

This is yet another demonstration the MSM is out to lunch.

Why does a major news outfit interview a comedian for answers or commentary on the War in Iraq?

Bill Maher has no expertise on War or foreign policy.

He is just another paid propaganda spokeshole for the DNC.

ScottyDog on September 19, 2007 at 1:06 PM

There’s a companion piece at Politico explaining why that strategy’s a big loser for us unless and until the war turns around.

Oh, sure. Being antiwar moonbat-lite is definitely a winning strategy for a GOP candidate. By the time people are paying attention to the election we will be drawing down troops.

I remember when AP was freaking over Warner’s token withdrawal proposal, too. At the time (11:25 and 11:36, to be exact), I noted that it was a token gesture and that Warner was not going to vote with the Dems. Funny how that worked out.
