Video: Obama girl salutes the troops

Imagine my surprise to learn that she was selling this on CNN this morning but not Fox & Friends. What happened, guys? Planning to devote the whole show to it tomorrow and didn’t want to spoil the surprise?

As irritating as the hype is, I’ll plug ‘em for this. Having the girlfriends of troops in the video is sweet, and all proceeds from sales of the song go to IAVA. Which, given the number of people who watch these Barely Political productions for the audio instead of the video, should mean about three dollars.

I thought it was a little bit annoying until the actual girlfriends/wives of soldiers came into it. That was pretty cool. And, they didn’t forget the women in uniform, even if that part was kind of weird.

should mean about three dollars.

Well, if you make this the HotAir theme song and pay them copyright fees, that would add up to what…another three dollars?

I’m just saying that every little bit helps, right?

Right.

It wouldn’t take away from your I-Phone funds since it now costs 200.00 less. So you could rack up the copyright fees to only the equivalent of the nerd tax refund without feeling guilty.

I’m just trying to be helpful with ideas for supporting our troops.

OMG that was great,

Anything that a)raises money for veterans groups and b)gets average people a little more interested in politics is good in my book.

Great rack…

Weasel Zipper on September 18, 2007 at 10:06 AM

This is what the Army should be using as a recruitment tool. It would bring in more than the junk they have on the airways now.

Are you positive this was produced in the US? I haven’t seen this many skinney women in a long time.

davidcaskey on September 18, 2007 at 10:14 AM

Ugh. I could only digest the first 3 seconds.

Theworldisnotenough on September 18, 2007 at 10:27 AM

Sign them up for a USO tour.

Something else the Army uses for recruitment:

Refreshing to see a pro-USA YouTube thing. Good for Obama girl!

should mean about three dollars

Or about the same who read AP for religious values.

Wade on September 18, 2007 at 11:04 AM

That was actually kind of cool. I wasn’t keen on the Obama Girl before, but now, I respect her for this video.

DakRoland on September 18, 2007 at 11:14 AM

While I’d say that this particular work is C-list at best, it’s great to see people using their talent, voices, and, uh, bodies in support of our brave troops. More power to them for it, and may more singers and artists do the same. We need it, and the troops need it even more.

flutejpl on September 18, 2007 at 11:14 AM

Ummm… nice message, nice looking ladies… and possibly the most generic rock music I have ever heard.

I mean, that label in the beginning should have been yellow with black letters kind of generic.

It’ll probably never be shown on MS-KOS-DNC.

kevcad on September 18, 2007 at 1:27 PM

um, I’m not sure about IAVA. my husband is a Vet and not particularly enamored of them.

maggie katzen on September 18, 2007 at 2:27 PM

nice video…it was very shouty for me, but the rap lyrics kind of stabilized it a little. They should add more of that…yes, I mean more of the rap…lol.

DakRoland on September 18, 2007 at 11:14 AM

Respect her?

I’d respect her for this video if she was doing it for free.

Pro bono, so to speak.

As it stands, I like the vid, and the eye candy, but I fear that Obama Girl is there for the bucks and the exposure only.

hillbillyjim on September 18, 2007 at 2:52 PM

Extra innings:

I agree with AllahP. that having the troops’ gals in the video is sweet.

hillbillyjim on September 18, 2007 at 2:54 PM

I liked it.

And Wuptdo has a great idea: Send them to Iraq and Afghanistan with the USO.

PS – Watching the girls “snap to” was a real treat!

“Hurrah for doggie tags!” Even my black lab likes this one!

georgej on September 18, 2007 at 4:14 PM

What’s sad is that the mainstream entertainment industry (with real budgets) doesn’t get behind projects like this. It’s not bad, and cool the way they worked in the girlfriends… but in a fair world this would be overshadowed by big budget stuff… Not just the occasional Toby Keith song.

RightWinged on September 18, 2007 at 5:51 PM

Hey, good timing. I was just addressing the very topic of supporting the troops on my blog yesterday.

Bottom line, we shouldn’t let people get away with just saying they support the troops. Such statements should always be followed up by asking “So how have you supported the troops recently?” Warning: Blank stares may be likely to follow.

Not everyone can serve, but everyone can do something to help out. With POW/MIA Recognition Day being this Friday, I hope people will take the opportunity to talk up groups like IAVA and others who really do support the troops.

OldZach on September 18, 2007 at 6:27 PM

Very cool. Guarantee #1 in Iraq & Afghanistan within 24 hours.

peski on September 18, 2007 at 6:36 PM

Aww, that was awesome.

I think she was singing a little out of her range, but what a sweet message.

Tanya on September 18, 2007 at 7:52 PM

Outstanding, somebody sign her up to Team Republican, quick.

canopfor on September 18, 2007 at 10:43 PM

I couldn’t watch the whole thing but I’m sure their hearts were in the right place. heh heh
