I hope that people understand that the butterfly thing is showing how the sprites interact. I only point this out for the one's who can't get The Onion posts.

P.S. Rush has Rio Linda, HotAir has Onion People.

P.P.S. Just think what this will do for The Sims IV

A little decent voice synthesis software (if it's ever invented), and you'll make a killing in pr0n.

But on a less lascivious note, interactive computer avatars are pretty massively cool in sci-fi, and would probably be pretty popular (if not productive) in real life.

Okay, that's only slightly less lascivious.

Somebody’s bound to use that in an electronic headstone, to freak people out when they come to leave flowers or whatever. Awesome.

I can see it now.

"Get off! Get off! Holy crap you're heavy. Does it look like I'm here, waiting for people to come around and step on me? You want me to come by your place when you're sleep and step on your pelvis? How about a little tap dance? Perhaps some ballet? Go on, get moving you twit. Nothing to see here but an angry corpse. Go on, before I crawl out of this grave and eat your brains!"

Is a MySpace avatar that smiles, moves its head slightly, and generally behaves as thought it’s been lobotomized really that much cooler than a static photo?

by Allahpundit

No. But it got your attention, and MySpace some free publicity.

Continues to show how impressionable we are.

It is a fact, I spoke to a friend who was a Japanese engineer for Sony in 1974, he stated that Americans will buy any electronic device or product we produce, as long as we put a lot buttons, knobs, lights on the and paint it black. The buttons, knobs, lights etc. do not have to actually function because the human senses can not actually hear, see or understand what is being presented to them.

This video, the robotic kid and dog continue to highlight how shallow we are which makes us very easy targets for manipulation.

15 years away from affordable VR? What about things like Second Life? You don't think people would love to have their avatar have an animated version of their (or someone else's) face?

The dictators and the terrorists they back are going to love that... Who knows...? They may even invest in its further research and development, with oil money and the checks they get from the Iranians, Syrians and Saudis, for sending their kids off to play homicide bombers. And..., if the bad guys like it, we KNOW the Dems will love it, right...?
