Video: MoveOn strikes back at Rudy
posted at 5:18 pm on September 17, 2007 by Allahpundit
Weak, mainly for the reason noted by Geraghty in his update but also because the Baker-Hamilton commission is most famous for advocating negotiations with Iran. Crocker spent the last week telling Congress how fruitless that’s been and Petraeus went so far as to accuse Iran of turning the Shiite militias into a nascent Iraqi Hezbollah. A little more escalation on the nuclear front and Rudy will be running ads about his “AWOL” status on the commission himself.

Blowback

So, summing it up, MoveOn is criticizing Giuliani for not taking part in a commission that most people don’t even remember anything about, and that recommended a troops surge that MoveOn is against. Not smart, these MoveOn folks, are they?
amerpundit on September 17, 2007 at 5:29 PM
By the way, what’s with the constant “betrayal” line? IIRC, Congress betrayed the MoveOn crowd – not Giuliani or Petraeus.
amerpundit on September 17, 2007 at 5:32 PM
I keep forgetting that most all of the left’s “attacks” are a form of projection.
So I raise them one ” I know you are but what am I?”
bbz123 on September 17, 2007 at 5:34 PM
They sure love to use “betrayal” don’t they?
Guardian on September 17, 2007 at 5:35 PM
MoveOn.org didn’t do a “clever” change to Guiliani’s name like they did Petreaus. Come on, dudes, you totally should have taken the shot I was expecting.
Hint: it involves New York “Money Men” – since they were supposedly involved in 9/11.
But then again MoveOn is not exactly the most brilliant group I’ve ever seen.

How ’bout an ad that says liberals betray america?
jdawg on September 17, 2007 at 5:37 PM
No, they’re not smart- however Rudy agreed to participate but backed out because it interferred with his campaign schedule.
For someone who- despite an almost complete lack of foriegn policy experience- is running on a national security platform to skip the opportunity to have an impact on the ISG report and gain some policy street cred I think is a valid point to bring up.
Could he have moved the ISG report away from their absurd appeasement angle? Maybe, maybe not… but now we’ll never know.
Hollowpoint on September 17, 2007 at 5:38 PM
This is where Rudy ties Move on to the Dems. He can ride this wave.
He needs to keep hammering away at the ties and relationship between moveon and dems. Showing that the Dems do not have control of the party, that they are puppets to off-shore political thugs.
This is where he puts the next ad.
Rudy, the man who defended New York when it mattered most, when people from other countries came to attack, Rudy stood tall. Now they are back, from off-shore bank accounts, move on is attacking us, and they have a friend this time…the Democratic party. The Democrats are taking their money, taking their advice, moveon said quote “we bought them, we own them”…who is betraying who? I’ll stand up to off-shore political influence, foreign money supported the attack on 9/11, now they think they can buy and intimidate people into voting.
Rudy doesn’t back down, Rudy can’t be bought.
Every one of the candidates should be attacking Moveon and there puppets, the Democratic party.
right2bright on September 17, 2007 at 5:40 PM
Question for Rudy backers – if you are OK, or enough OK, with shamnesty, and oh boy is Rudolf “Sanctuary City Mayor” Giuliani ever, and want somebody who is strong on the war, why not support McCain?
McCain has some of the same nonconservative beliefs that Rudolf has, but he also has conservative beliefs that Giuliani does not. He is a genuine war hero, not a draft dodger. And he would be a lot more likely to nominate conservative judges than Rudolf would be.
MB4 on September 17, 2007 at 5:41 PM
Best thing to happen to Rudy’s campaign in a long time. If MoveOn keeps it up, they might MOVE him ON to the White House. Nothin stirs a campaign like a good ol’ fashioned battle.
second digit on September 17, 2007 at 5:42 PM
Good point- McCain has earned the criticism he gets, but I don’t get why those who refuse to support him (and I’m one of them) would respond by supporting someone even worse.
Hollowpoint on September 17, 2007 at 5:44 PM
NIce how the YouTube link has comments disabled.
Wonder why?
yo on September 17, 2007 at 5:47 PM
First of all, “Rudolf” is actually “Rudolph”. Second of all, McCain-Feingold. Third, Giuliani didn’t support amnesty for illegals. The federal govt (under Clinton, KIM) was barely deporting illegals. So, instead of letting them sit in hiding afraid to talk to the police, he decided to use them to fight crime. He encouraged them to come forward and talk to the police if they witnessed a crime.
He wants a national database and a physical and technical fence.
McCain also strongly rallied against Prop. 200 in Arizona.
amerpundit on September 17, 2007 at 5:48 PM
Does Moveon.org have to report this as a donation….to Rudy’s campaign?
How does this not help the guy? Moveon.org hates him, that’s a plus with conservatives. Rudy pulled out of the despised and mocked Iraq Study Group? So he’s not on record as favoring negotiations with Iran? Oh no! As far as I know, conservatives loathe the ISG report.
Even if you think Rudy is too liberal, you have to admit, he has all the right enemies.
Drew on September 17, 2007 at 5:50 PM
I just love the line “he gave speeches…for money”.
What do they think Clinton gives speeches for? Peanuts?
They are seriously doing Giuliani a great favor, one that he baited them into doing. They have anointed him as the biggest Republican threat, thus elevating him in the minds of many as the eventual primary winner.
Clouds on September 17, 2007 at 5:53 PM
Wow. MoveOn is not the threat I thought they might be. This ad was weak. Really weak.
Heh. Wussies.
MikeZero on September 17, 2007 at 5:56 PM
Ha that was my favorite part too. Speeches.. for money! Money I say! Oh noes!
Dash on September 17, 2007 at 5:57 PM
Drew and Clouds nailed it.
Entelechy on September 17, 2007 at 5:57 PM
Yes, but see, those are Democrats. Just like Democrats have problems with Republicans dealing with lobbyists, but Democrats have no problem doing it themselves.

The first was a skit with Donald Trump. As for the second, he was Mayor in a city with 5 Democrats for every 1 Republican. Gay was a significant part of his constituency.

MB4 on September 17, 2007 at 5:41 PM
It’s not just because of his stances on the war and Islamic terrorism, but because of his work before that as a prosecutor and Mayor. He’s good on fiscal and economic issues, and incredibly tough on crime. Many say that crime is not high on their list of priorities, but al Qaeda is actually not all that different from the mafia Giuliani took apart so successfully. I’m a Giuliani supporter, but I admire and respect McCain a great deal, and would love to see him get the nomination if Rudy doesn’t.
Big S on September 17, 2007 at 6:03 PM
Interestingly enough, Giuliani was the one who successfully prosecuted Marc Rich, before the Clinton Machine pardoned him.
amerpundit on September 17, 2007 at 6:04 PM
Moveon.org should be sent back to lower Slobovia (Or wherever they might belong). They certainty don’t belong in the US. Soros may be rich but he should have his citizenship revoked.

MikeZero on September 17, 2007 at 6:06 PM
I don’t care if it comes out that Rudy is a closet homosexual. He’d at least belong to the right political party, and maybe we could take the gay vote away from the libs.
csdeven on September 17, 2007 at 6:11 PM
YouTube video “comments are closed”?…What’s the matter, they don’t want the other 99% of the population to speak their mind?
KCtheKat on September 17, 2007 at 6:14 PM
The ONLY thing that worries me about Rudy would be his nominations to the supreme court. Can any Rudy fans point to any history of appointments, support for, or statements that Rudy has made that will assure me that he will nominate justices along the lines of Roberts?
csdeven on September 17, 2007 at 6:16 PM
Third, Giuliani didn’t support amnesty for illegals.
amerpundit on September 17, 2007 at 5:48 PM
ROFLMAO!!!
Just for starts Google or Yahoo his speech as mayor where he sued and defied the federal government on illegals.
Just a bit of it as that should be more than enough:
Giuliani – “For those who may not know, Executive Order 124 is New York City’s policy regarding undocumented [aka, ILLEGAL!] immigrants. This order was issued seven years ago by Mayor Ed Koch and then later reissued by Mayor Dinkins and then by me. Executive Order 124 protects undocumented [aka, ILLEGAL!] immigrants in New York City from being reported to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service while they are using City services that are crucial for their health and safety, and critical for the health and safety of the entire city.
Joining me in defense of fair treatment for immigrants [Obviously from above meaning ILLEGALS!] is a coalition of well-known individuals [Now I wonder who that would be. LaRaza? Ted Kennedy? Vicente Fox?] and organizations who oppose the anti-immigration forces [Obviously meaning anti-illegal-immigration forces as there are basically no anti-legal-immigration forces}in Washington and elsewhere.”

Moveon(To Hating Americans).org proves, once again, that even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.(Gen. Betray us ad)
In doing so they also showed their total lack of imagination and ability. That was one piss poor excuse for an ad, attack or otherwise.(on Rudy)
And another thing, for an organization that was created for the purpose of stopping attacks on certain politicians(the Clintons), they have absoluteley no clue(as usual) of the irony and hipocritical nature of their attempted attacks. Sorry, but it just amazes me that adults could be so shortsighted and childishly simplistic while still expecting to be taken seriously.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!

doriangrey on September 17, 2007 at 6:31 PM
Ok, so let me ask you. If you’re opposed to illegal immigration, why do you support McCain or think others should? He’s sponsored amnesty before, and has the added burden of McCain-Feingold.
It goes beyond the two issues you’d like to point out about Giuliani. I lived in New York, saw and lived through his policies, and support him.
Final reason I support Rudy or Fred: They can win. John McCain won’t. You can’t win solely on the Conservative vote.
amerpundit on September 17, 2007 at 6:34 PM
Actually, I should say, the open-borders, campaign finance reform Conservative vote.

amerpundit on September 17, 2007 at 6:34 PM
Yes, I am very opposed to illegal immigration/invasion!!
You misunderstood me with McCain. I DO NOT support him. I just wondered aloud why those who would support Guliania would not also support McCain.
Rudolf ( or whatever) opposed the mild restrictions on immigration which the GOP passed and Clinton signed in 1996. What on earth does he have to do to turn you off?
He would have vetoed the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 because he thought it was too anti-illegal-immigrant. If that does not tell you all you need to know, aye, yhe, yhe!
Just admit it – you want to vote for the guy and you don’t really care what his positions are on most of the issues.
Anyone who is bound and determined to vote for a guy who makes Bill Clinton look like Edmund Burke, knock yourselves out. I would vote for McCain (lesser of poisons) before I would vote for Rudolf (or whatever), maybe even the HildaBeast™ (out of spite I suppose and getting another chance in 2012)!
MB4 on September 17, 2007 at 6:41 PM
Because I support Giuliani’s stances on other issues, such as abortion, and lived under him in NY.
Decide that we no longer need to fight terror.
Let me tell you, that plan worked out wonderfully! It essentially eradicated our illegal immigration issue. Oh, wait…
Er, no. If I hear Fred say something I like on a very important issue for me, and Rudy takes I stance I don’t like, I’ll vote for Fred.
Good idea. You go do that.
amerpundit on September 17, 2007 at 6:46 PM
Expect the folks at MoveOn to become unhinged exponentially after the primaries.
Kini on September 17, 2007 at 6:54 PM
What on earth does he have to do to turn you off?
Decide that we no longer need to fight terror.
Then why not vote for war hero McCain instead of a draft dodger? Why not vote substance over bravado?
maybe even the HildaBeast™
Good idea. You go do that.
That would only be out of shear desperation. If Rudolf (or whatever) gets the Rep Nom, I will probably vote third party or write in Tancredo and/or get drunk!
amerpundit on September 17, 2007 at 6:46 PM
MB4 on September 17, 2007 at 6:57 PM
Huh? You asked what would turn me off, not what my litmus test for a candidate is. I respect McCain’s service, but as President he wouldn’t go out there and physically fight. And he also fought 30 years ago, against a visible, fixed enemy. We’re now fighting in the Middle East and around the world against plain-clothed terrorists.
Again, good idea. Instead of going out to help elect someone you agree with a chunk of the time, or at least can be pressured by you into a policy, go vote for a third party so someone who doesn’t give a damn about you gets elected.
amerpundit on September 17, 2007 at 7:01 PM
He’s specifically said that he does support amnesty… but like McCain and Bush he just won’t call it that. When the last “shamnesty” bill came out, his only opposition to it was to nitpick the ID and recordkeeping requirements- not a word in opposition to the amnesty.

This is an old, standard Communist/Socialist tactic that stems from Lenin (at least from what I can tell).
When Trotsky and Lenin were in conflict over the future of the Soviet Union, it came to Lenin making the following statement (NOTE: it is not verbatim):
“Why should I respond to Trotsky? He would then respond to me, and I would then respond to him. It is better/easier just to call him traitor, and then everyone will understand everything.”
