scooter, no surprise to hear that you seem to miss the point. I don't give a fuck about "Current TV" or whatever other get rich quick scheme the Goracle (spell, dude) is touting this week. The guy's a lying piece of shill.

The most savage review I have heard for his idiotic joint venture with blowjob queen Laurie David was from Slate, a venture of the left, written by a liberal Democrat who agrees with most of the points made in the movie. Why? Because Gore perverted the science and turned it into an absurd piece of propaganda.

He lies about the scientists who have reviewed the data on climate change, he lies about the causes, the effects, the contradictory data. He tells nitwits like you that the world is approaching "a tipping point" after which all life on earth will be threatened. And while he does that, he flies around in private jets, the single most carbon-spew intensive thing he could possibly do, and burns something like 100 times more electricity in his personal residences (I'll bet it's more like 200 times) than I do in mine.

So, is he lying and getting rich (he made over $50 million brainwashing you, you putz), or does he really believe his own bullshit, and he flies in the Gulfstream, anyway?

Which is it, scooter?

Fight Climate Change with 'Urine Credits'...

You must read this. From Hot Air:
How about it, Goracle? Make you a deal: no more conservative grumbling about private jets if…

In advance of all that, however, Blanchett will have a few blessedly domestic weeks in Sydney, where Dash will start.....

To expand on your comments concerning waste water reclamation, while most US municipal codes restrict/ban grey water drainage it is not at all uncommon in rural areas (just drain down the hill). I've also seen it in my work in some of the poorest areas of large urban cities(illegally) and in the occasional expensive urban property where a homeowner takes shortcut on something like a garage utility sink.
That said there are numerous new technologies for waste water (and sewage) treatments on small and large scales (including for energy generation).

As far as the constant tacky, snarky, or tasteless attacks on Al Gore, John Edwards and anyone of any political party that one may disagree with, I'm just tired of it (even the use of the terms gorical,silky,etc...). I have heard all the funny comments and attempted but often unfunny comments on this site and others that I care to hear.

I do like it that we have a forum to exchange ideas, and question our own understanding of others opinions and many times I learn, think and have a duh moment and my views change.
I may not agree with everything Al Gore does, but I really like Current TV. I think it is a great opportunity for people like us to express our views to others in another medium. Should I not watch or contribute to Current because Al rode on a big jet.
Should I fall in line with those that preach that the earths natural resources are to be raped or exploited for a select few. Personally I could do without anything ever being raped. I wish there was no use for that word.

In my own community, water rights are a big issue. I live in a county with 6200 sq miles of space, and around 8000 people, yet 30 percent of our ground water usage goes to one golf resort (golf in the desert has always been kinda goofy to me). A large portion of those using the resort fly in, and many are in jets. I do understand that it is a beautiful place, that many come to enjoy for that reason. I not saying don't come and play golf in this most unnatural place for it, however I do suggest that we all have a part to play in our community, nation, world to ensure the the same pleasures are available for generations to come.
Yes I am a conservative, and I do conserve more of our resources than most people by living a simple lifestyle, and I didn't always live this way. I grew up on a farm in Iowa but later lived the highrise lifestyle on the north shore of Chicago (go Cubs). Even then I was conservation minded.
I suspect many people who attack those who "preach" conservation in forums like this, finish their beer and throw the empty in a recycle bin, turn off the their lamp with a compact bulb, and go to bed while their computer goes into energy saving sleep mode. All good things. And I won't call you a hypocrite for it. Once again to sum up....leaf blowers do suck and go Cubbies....or was that cubs suck and go leaf blowers...figure

Well, she’s full of $hit, so some piss can’t hurt.

csdeven on September 17, 2007 at 6:20 PM

Nice snark.

Anton beat me to it, but this is not a sewage recycling system, at least I don't think it is. That's very difficult to do.

But neither here nor there, the reports of this millionaire diva home shopping in Sydney belie her delicate environmental sensibilities. There were no homes big enough with the "right view".

For the umpteenth time, here's my Green Challenge for her, Leo and Algore: burn as little and waste as little as me in a year and I'll volunteer for your Global Warming Hysteria groups for the rest of my life. You are incapable of living the life you want us to live.

Dusty on September 18, 2007 at 2:14 AM

First off, I didn't mean to imply you're a hypocrite, so sorry about that. I'm never snarky, if you read my posts.

Second, the main point I'm making is similar to scooter's, above. Yes, please, rail against Silky and the Goracle, as they preach and preach then fly around in private jets and use enough energy for a small country to power their homes.
But when someone actually puts their money into making their home as energy independent as possible it's no reason to deride them. Like I said, I still haven't found her saying she's drinking her own pee, nor recommending anyone else do it.
By the way, I did look up some of these reclamation systems, and for the life of me I can't see where one of these has a negative effect on the rest of the municipality.

I'd like to think that I'm not some nutjob. I would think Cate is not near the nut many of you think. I live in a home that has its water supplied by a rain water catchment system, and its waste water(grey water)is cycled from the home to both and exterior garden and indoor garden/greenhouse systems (simple when using biodegradable soaps and detergents). I don't have a black water system so yI don't deal with that hassle or cost. I do use a composting toilet (yes i make my own fertilizer, but then someone else does that for you at a much higher cost). I produce my own electricity via solar and wind systems. I heat in the winter with a recycled wood pellet/furnace heating system, no air conditioning for the 100-115F summer days but with some prior planning, my home stays fairing cool due to proper placement, shade and a wind powered fan. Produce much of my own food (veg, poultry, goat). I do all this because I live 40 miles off phone, water and electric systems. I love my views of the night skys lite by billions of stars, and constant satelite fly overs. I love the lifestyle. Its a little slow at times and there is always something to do.
Some of these things I do not because I have to, but I find it interesting, and enjoyable (don't any of you have projects or hobbies you find enjoyment in). I don't think my lifestyle is either superior or inferior to any of yours. I do think it suits me just fine.
If a Hollywood star lives on a ranch, raises horses and likes to occasionly ride on a tractor and cut their on hay, are they a nutjob. How about clearing brush, or chopping firewood (couple of presidents come to mind). I think not, but install a grey water system and bingo, welcome to loneyville.
Cate may live in a similar area under similar conditions, maybe not. I don't really know, and you may not either. I'm not telling you how to live, and from reading her comments (and do we ever know if they are correctly quoted?) I didn't see where she was telling you how to live either. Most of the world lives without the conveniences and toys that many of us/you have (hey, even I've got a satelite internet connection and cell phone).
Where do you draw the line between being more efficient or energy conscience (or maybe just an interest you may not share) and being a nutbag. Are the use of compact flourescent bulbs, geo-thermal heating and cooling systems, low e-glass windows, or buying a fuel efficient vehicle things just for crazies. I'd think not.

Actually, it’s pretty similar: both systems are designed for people who don’t live on planet earth.

There is also a difference. One group will very likely return to planet earth, the other not so likely.

[SouthernDem on September 17, 2007 at 9:14 PM]

Imagine that, a Dem assuming my political affiliation is conservative and, therefore, I'm hypocritical. No surprise there! It seems those two words are inseparable for Dems.

The ones you are looking for are libertarians, Southern Dem. It is rather in form, actually, for a conservative to suggest to someone, even a Greenie who was "Green before it was hip" and has heroes like Al Gore, that she might dispose of her income in a fashion which provides a much higher environmental return on her money than her pie in the sky, profligate spending to make herself feel good.

Now the crux of your comment. It's not called stats. It's called a cost analysis. They are different. If I did lots of cost analyses, then I could do some statistics. The one I did was called a ballpark analysis, "seat of the pants" style. My old school prof's taught me and I paid $50k for their wisdom. I'll give you all the detailed analysis you want once your check clears.

But seriously, I don't need a system identified. I know the processes involved, the requirements for operation and what's available in the way of package plants for wastewater treatment, not wastewater reclamation. (If you need some idea of what's involved, google "package wastewater treatment" and maybe "process flow chart".) And even the term wastewater treatment is not entirely proper in describing what Cate's suggesting because that treatment only brings the effluent to a quality for discharge into the environment, not to a quality for use as potable water.

For potable water, the effluent needs filtration, purification, chlorination and storage. How that system would be permitted for connection to the home's domestic water system without fear of cross-connection contamination to the public water supply is something for the municipality but I doubt they would be happy with mere backflow prevention as a safeguard and likely not allow it. It's probably that this would also be the case if she had a private well.

My ballpark estimate for waterwater to potable water, std celebrity home, all said and done, sans separate housing, extra solar panels, yearly operation, chemicals, and maintenance -- $50k minimum, $100K tops.

BTW, if the article has nothing whatsoever to do with Cate treating her own wastewater, how come it has her saying she is planning to treat her own wasterwater so she can drink it?

It’s funny how most of the people in this thread immediately attack Dems for being so “unhinged” when they go after the President. But when a celebrity is featured doing something like this, you all sound a lot like them.

No, "most of the people in this thread" were making jokes because we enjoy doing that. You've just apparently been buying ahead on your Sense Of Humor offsets, or you didn't have one to begin with. Lighten up, Francis.
