Good news: Cate Blanchett to fight global warming by drinking her own pee

How about it, Goracle? Make you a deal: no more conservative grumbling about private jets if…

In advance of all that, however, Blanchett will have a few blessedly domestic weeks in Sydney, where Dash will start the new school year and she and Upton will work on renovating their house. Green before it was hip—she cites Al Gore and David de Rothschild as heroes and believes that leaf blowers “sum up everything that is wrong with the human race”—the couple are trying to make the ecological footprint of the home as small as possible, installing solar panels and even a filtration system that will allow them to drink their own wastewater.

Any ideas as to why this would be more environmentally friendly than, say, using a toilet or your backyard? You’re consuming less water from the world’s supply, granted, but you’re also putting back less, too. Does a little extra nitrogen and salt on the grass somehow affect carbon levels? Or is this a simple case of a celebrity so desperate to prove her liberal virtue that she’s willing to drink piss to do so? Theories are welcome.

To expand on your comments concerning waste water reclamation, while most US municipal codes restrict/ban grey water drainage it is not at all uncommon in rural areas (just drain down the hill). I’ve also seen it in my work in some of the poorest areas of large urban cities(illegally) and in the occasional expensive urban property where a homeowner takes shortcut on something like a garage utility sink.
That said there are numerous new technologies for waste water (and sewage) treatments on small and large scales (including for energy generation).

As far as the constant tacky, snarky, or tasteless attacks on Al Gore, John Edwards and anyone of any political party that one may disagree with, I’m just tired of it (even the use of the terms gorical, silky, etc…). I have heard all the funny comments and attempted but often unfunny comments on this site and others that I care to hear.

I do like it that we have a forum to exchange ideas, and question our own understanding of others opinions and many times I learn, think and have a duh moment and my views change.
I may not agree with everything Al Gore does, but I really like Current TV. I think it is a great opportunity for people like us to express our views to others in another medium. Should I not watch or contribute to Current because Al rode on a big jet.
Should I fall in line with those that preach that the earths natural resources are to be raped or exploited for a select few. Personally I could do without anything ever being raped. I wish there was no use for that word.

In my own community, water rights are a big issue. I live in a county with 6200 sq miles of space, and around 8000 people, yet 30 percent of our ground water usage goes to one golf resort (golf in the desert has always been kinda goofy to me). A large portion of those using the resort fly in, and many are in jets. I do understand that it is a beautiful place, that many come to enjoy for that reason. I not saying don’t come and play golf in this most unnatural place for it, however I do suggest that we all have a part to play in our community, nation, world to ensure the the same pleasures are available for generations to come.
Yes I am a conservative, and I do conserve more of our resources than most people by living a simple lifestyle, and I didn’t always live this way. I grew up on a farm in Iowa but later lived the highrise lifestyle on the north shore of Chicago (go Cubs). Even then I was conservation minded.
I suspect many people who attack those who “preach” conservation in forums like this, finish their beer and throw the empty in a recycle bin, turn off the their lamp with a compact bulb, and go to bed while their computer goes into energy saving sleep mode. All good things. And I won’t call you a hypocrite for it. Once again to sum up….leaf blowers do suck and go Cubbies….or was that cubs suck and go leaf blowers…figure

scooter, no surprise to hear that you seem to miss the point. I don’t give a fuck about “Current TV” or whatever other get rich quick scheme the Goracle (spell, dude) is touting this week. The guy’s a lying piece of shill.

The most savage review I have heard for his idiotic joint venture with blowjob queen Laurie David was from Slate, a venture of the left, written by a liberal Democrat who agrees with most of the points made in the movie. Why? Because Gore perverted the science and turned it into an absurd piece of propaganda.

He lies about the scientists who have reviewed the data on climate change, he lies about the causes, the effects, the contradictory data. He tells nitwits like you that the world is approaching “a tipping point” after which all life on earth will be threatened. And while he does that, he flies around in private jets, the single most carbon-spew intensive thing he could possibly do, and burns something like 100 times more electricity in his personal residences (I’ll bet it’s more like 200 times) than I do in mine.

So, is he lying and getting rich (he made over $50 million brainwashing you, you putz), or does he really believe his own bullshit, and he flies in the Gulfstream, anyway?

Which is it, scooter?
