Audio: The O.J. incident, caught on tape

I surrender. TMZ’s posted 38 seconds of a six-minute tape of what it claims is the actual confrontation between the Juice and the memorabilia dealers who were allegedly trying to fence some of his belongings. The man who recorded it: Thomas Riccio, an auction house employee from California who claims to have been approached a month ago by the person who stole O.J.’s stuff. Riccio says he called Simpson, whom he’d met before, after the thief’s overture and that somehow led to the “sting operation” in Vegas last week. Why Riccio was there to accompany him and how he and O.J. were able to track down the goods in another city are unclear at the moment, and extremely shady. As is the fact that Riccio just happens to be the guy who tried to sell Anna Nicole Smith’s diaries.

Yes, there’s actually an Anna Nicole connection to this case.

Presumably Riccio recorded the incident because he thought the memorabilia dealers might confess to fencing the goods when surprised by O.J. Or did he do it with precisely this scenario in mind, knowing that he’d have a hot property in his hands if O.J. got in trouble? Exit question one: If, as Riccio has said, O.J. didn’t use force when entering the room, why are there men on the tape screaming, “Backs against the wall”? And exit question two: Why, if there were no guns in the room, is O.J. allegedly leaving Riccio voicemail messages trying to convince him that there were no guns in the room? Let’s not rush to judgment.

OK, that’s long enough.

Guilty.

Have to admit I’m already tired of the excessive coverage. It’s not like he cut someone’s head off.

JammieWearingFool on September 17, 2007 at 9:15 AM

Yes, there’s actually an Anna Nicole connection to this case.

Heaven help us.

Slublog on September 17, 2007 at 9:16 AM

I agree. OJ conviction or obituary…then I’ll post.

thejackal on September 17, 2007 at 9:17 AM

Maybe this will prove that there REALLY is a God.
First we have to find a fair jury.Is that possible with this killer?

OBX Pete on September 17, 2007 at 9:18 AM

I really thought you were gonna be able to hold your water on this one AP. But, I guess superman you ain’t.

csdeven on September 17, 2007 at 9:20 AM

OK, so maybe OJ will finally do time after literally getting away with murder. But, assuming this armed robbery charge goes to trial without a plea bargain being struck first, what’s the possibility that the fact that he was supposedly trying to recover his own stuff becomes a mitigating factor in sentencing? So he gets, say, 3-7 instead of 15-20?

flipflop on September 17, 2007 at 9:20 AM

PS…I’m not a lawyer, and I didn’t even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

flipflop on September 17, 2007 at 9:22 AM

AP, you should code the video link to open in a new window by default. TMZ has a really annoying habit of closing the main browser window automatically and spawning a custom-sized ‘video player’ window flush with the top-right corner of the screen.

Mindcrime on September 17, 2007 at 9:22 AM

It happened in Harry Reid’s backyard, time we connect the dots.

Limerick on September 17, 2007 at 9:24 AM

I mean, flush with the top-left corner.

But, yeah, I don’t think OJ is gonna get any sympathy from anyone except some liberal activist Clinton appointee judge.

Mindcrime on September 17, 2007 at 9:24 AM

Yes, there’s actually an Anna Nicole connection to this case.

Greaaaaat. Now all we need is Paris Hilton to be involved too, and we have a media coveragepalooza!

amerpundit on September 17, 2007 at 9:29 AM

So if someone steals something from me, I can’t go get it back? Can’t bring a gun either? What if I have a conceal permit?

Do the math.

Mr. Simpson is running on empty $$$$$ and in jail you get fed and given a place to sleep, while your lawyers devise a suit for wrongful arrest to replenish theirs and his bank accounts which are not eligible for being forfeited to the Goldman’s.

MSGTAS on September 17, 2007 at 9:36 AM

Can I get a Witness from the Obamessiah?

Wanderlust on September 17, 2007 at 9:37 AM

I was actually hoping for an OJ-Free Zone here since he was pretty much ‘THE’ News all weekend. What a low-life! If he hadn’t had his athletic ability to push him along in life he would probably have been in jail decades ago.
However, I guess we need something to keep Greta going. I don’t know how much more air she can get out of the McCanns so it’s nice she has something else to sink her teeth into. She can milk this for all it’s worth.

dbdiva on September 17, 2007 at 9:37 AM

So OJ tells the cops:

I got away with murder. You don’t got nothin’ on me!

lorien1973 on September 17, 2007 at 9:46 AM

AllahP, just go ahead and sign up Nancy Grace as a guest blogger for this topic. That will save your sanity for the more important anti-jihad work.

And the robots. Let’s not forget the robots.

Anton on September 17, 2007 at 9:48 AM

Nothing like OJ in the news to serve as a balm for race relations in America. Any second now we’ll have black racists defending this maggot “because they stole his stuff” and “you can’t prove there were guns”.

Hopefully, the same crowd that screams about illegal aliens committing crimes will call out that this could never have happened if OJ had been fried in the chair as he most certainly should have been.

I blame the nitwits and racists on the OJ jury! Damn, this is fun…

Jaibones on September 17, 2007 at 9:50 AM

If that is not a true ” A__-Hole “; I do not know what is.

oldelpasoan on September 17, 2007 at 9:52 AM

THAT’S ENOUGH TO ADD UNLAWFUL CONFINEMENT TO THE CHARGES, isn’t it?

Christoph on September 17, 2007 at 10:10 AM

Yes, there’s actually an Anna Nicole connection to this case.

This is one of he signs of the Apocolypse.

CliffHanger on September 17, 2007 at 10:15 AM

J. Jackson is strangly silent about the use of guns on this one.

On-my-soap-box on September 17, 2007 at 10:16 AM

Yes, there’s actually an Anna Nicole connection to this case.

Stepping in it with both feet, eh AP?

Jezla on September 17, 2007 at 10:38 AM

Nordberg’s never gonna make Lieutenant at this rate.

yo on September 17, 2007 at 10:45 AM

Come on AP. You know that it’s not OJ Simpson. It’s Mark Furman doing an OJ Simpson voice impression.

Yeah, that’s the ticket :>)

Bigfoot on September 17, 2007 at 10:52 AM

Dumber than Homer.

Is this the Britney Spears media thread? Oh, pardon me wrong celebrity gossip thread. I’ll leave you all alone and find the Britney thread.

Egfrow on September 17, 2007 at 11:20 AM

What’s the saying?

History repeats itself, first as tragedy, then as farce?

This would be the farce part, right?

Anyway, comedy gold.

Farmer_Joe on September 17, 2007 at 11:34 AM

Karl Rove you are absolutely brilliant!

Now America will be busy with OJ-Ann Nicole meanwhile Bush prepares the invasion of Iran.

World domination, my friends…world domination…

Ropera on September 17, 2007 at 11:43 AM

Exactly. Now the timing of Rove quitting the White House staff makes perfect sense. :)

O.J….set up again. That guy has more bad luck, someone (the white man) is really out to get him.

Poor guy, can’t get a fair break. All he did was break into a hotel room with armed buddies and take what he thinks is rightfully his…have you know mercy.

What, they have security at those hotels, and the Vegas cops weren’t notified?

Well, anyway, everyone is out to get him and it isn’t fair. Don’t let the facts sway you (besides, I think that name of the dealer was Jooooish), the nation of islam will straighten this out.

How long before the video of a guy whining about how unfair we are to O.J.?

right2bright on September 17, 2007 at 12:30 PM

The Forty-Niners are undefeated and OJ is in Jail.

What year is this?

JayHaw Phrenzie on September 17, 2007 at 1:13 PM

I’d be careful about calling the seller a thief.

From what I had heard, he bought the contents of OJ’s storage unit at auction after OJ failed to make his rental payments … this is standard practice in the storage industry.

Just because OJ says someone is a “thief” does not mean he is a thief.
