Audio: Ron Paul lands monster celebrity endorsement

Seriously impressive, all the more so given the fact that the endorser’s been dead for awhile. Will Steve and Eydie be voting for this capital-p Patriot now? You bet they will, baby.

Blowback

Well, this pretty much describes that “thing”

Bomb Doctor on September 16, 2007 at 7:31 PM

Oh, well that’s the last straw. I guess I have to support him now…

amerpundit on September 16, 2007 at 7:35 PM

Gonna be tough keeping dinner down.

JammieWearingFool on September 16, 2007 at 7:38 PM

Ron Paul’s had the 9/11 Truther Zombie vote, now he’s got the Celebrity Crooner Zombie vote.

Nethicus on September 16, 2007 at 7:41 PM

Working from a limited budget is one thing, but this…?

petefrt on September 16, 2007 at 7:45 PM

Isn’t it just a little bit sick that the candidate of the 9/11 Deniers should set his campaign song to the tune of “New York, New York”?

Blacklake on September 16, 2007 at 7:46 PM

That’s what killed Dennis Day–contempt for the audience.

see-dubya on September 16, 2007 at 7:50 PM

I was expecting to hear I Did it My Way, for two reasons:

1. It’s the Sinatra number that Steve coopted as his theme song, and since you mentioned he and Eydie…

2. New York, New York is going to make people think of Giuliani more than Paul, no matter how much you change the lyrics

Freelancer on September 16, 2007 at 7:54 PM

I thought he was saying Ru Paul Ru Paul. I need to get new speakers.

Terri on September 16, 2007 at 8:19 PM

You said Steve and Eydie and my first thought was huh?

- The Cat

P.S. Yeah yeah, I know it’s E.D. not Eydie; but you try to hear the difference when it’s spoken in your brainial parts.

MirCat on September 16, 2007 at 8:28 PM

It’s not going to get him any votes, but I like the style. Personally, I prefer My Way.

jihadwatcher on September 16, 2007 at 8:34 PM

I think AP is a closet RP fan. ;)

lorien1973 on September 16, 2007 at 8:42 PM

So I take it Nader isn’t running this year, seing how there’s a new dork in town?

When are the real candidates going to get rid of these “no chancers” and, in the case of Paul, his increasingly annoying posse?

highhopes on September 16, 2007 at 9:02 PM

No, not Steve and Eydie! Say it isn’t so!

Of course you realize the only reason I know who they are is because my parents listened to them.

I swear. Not me.

Meryl Yourish on September 16, 2007 at 9:06 PM

his increasingly annoying posse?

highhopes on September 16, 2007 at 9:02 PM

That’s one problem with the net. It used to be you ran out of donors. Then you ran out of cash. Then you ran out of paid ad space and tv spots. Then no one hears from you anymore and no one returns your calls. But now when you run out of all that, you post something on YouTube.

- The Cat

P.S. Not to mention all those that post for you who aren’t even of voting age.

MirCat on September 16, 2007 at 9:07 PM

Don’t laugh, he just may be the candidate. Outside of the Right Wing blogs America likes him.

AprilOrit on September 16, 2007 at 9:14 PM

Ron Paul, Ron Paul … Isn’t that the tale of a old kook’s strange, didactic journey from Houston to the Hill?

km on September 16, 2007 at 9:15 PM

Sorry, but as a New Yorker, that song is like a sacred hymn to us…And to see it used in a Ron Paul ad makes my stomach turn.

Couldn’t they have used a little “Chicago is….my kind of town, Chigago is…”

Just passing the buck….or the, well, umm…

JetBoy on September 16, 2007 at 9:35 PM

Of course, I need to add that if indeed hell does freeze over, and Ron Paul is elected *shudder* would dress for the inaugural be tin hat and tails?

JetBoy on September 16, 2007 at 9:54 PM

You better get your roll of Reynolds Wrap while you can…I bet he’s it the way things are going. I don’t think it even warrants hell freezing over.

AprilOrit on September 16, 2007 at 10:01 PM

You mean they’re still alive? The last time I saw those two was on the Sinatra Group skit on Saturday Night Live.

Frank Nitti on September 16, 2007 at 10:39 PM

Americans will never vote for a guy that looks like that.

PoliticallyIncorrectSandy on September 16, 2007 at 11:11 PM

I put a better theme song for Ron Paul up on my website.

Nethicus on September 16, 2007 at 11:20 PM

Leave Ol’ Blue Eyes alone, please.

packsoldier on September 16, 2007 at 11:43 PM

Maybe there is some pent-up angst out there that’s now starting to break free?

Anyway, next time, use Summer Wind.

jaime on September 17, 2007 at 12:44 AM

I get the feeling that if Sinatra was still around he’d beat Paul’s face in for dessecrating his song like that. Heck, he might just rise out of his grave and do it anyways.

wolfva on September 17, 2007 at 3:54 AM

Nothing says “serious candidate” like a song parody.
