Wow. Spiders. Amazing technology. Heretofore unheard of.
Okay, sarcasm aside it makes sense.

While I lament the lack of privacy I also applaude the effort to trackdown the bad guys. Let’s face it, you type, someone you didn’t think would is reading it.
I figure that if they want to put me in a camp for grammar and spelling terrorism that my friends at HA will march on Washington and get me out. Well almost all my friends at HA.
(Yeah right)…..:)

Tucson is a nice place. I’ve lived here almost two years now and I really like it. The hiking is awesome! Besides, it’s a dry heat :-)
Amazing how smart people and technology can be! Nice to see we are making real progress on many fronts in the terror fight. Hackers and geeks saving lives!!!

The kind of thing you always hope the good guys are doing…and used to assume they were….

I actually do something extremely similar to this in my job everyday (though I’m not looking for terrorist info, I’m looking for something else). I would guess the heart of their analysis is the Bayesian Theorem. It’s amazing what can be done with it when you have enough data to mine.
I would also guess that these folks get a ton of hate mail. When you run a web crawler, you need to obey robots.txt files or web masters get very angry. You can bet the terrorists are using them if they don’t want their “hidden” sites discovered, so the crawler has to be ignoring them. It’s no big deal to ignore the wishes of a terrorist, but in order to crawl enough sites to find these “hidden” sites, you’ve got to crawl plenty of benign ones that also don’t want to be crawled, hence the hate mail.
