Holy Land Foundation prosecutors savor rich, creamy irony

We’ve mentioned a few times now that CAIR was labelled an “Unindicted Co-Conspirator” in the Holy Land Foundation terror-support trial, still going on in Dallas. CAIR is not happy about that status at all and filed an amicus brief, pleading to be removed from co-conspirator status.

To bolster their claim that the designation has hurt them, they turned to possibly their least favorite journalist in the whole world, Audrey Hudson of the Washington Times. Hudson had looked at CAIR’s own tax records in June, and noted that their membership was plummeting.

Of course CAIR complained about that article when it came out, calling it inaccurate and Hudson racist. But now that they’re squirming under the “co-conspirator” tag, they’re citing that same Wash Times piece to save their sorry behinds! Hudson herself noted the irony, and that it was a useless comparison anyway, since her article concerned a time period before CAIR was designated a co-conspirator.

Now, Hudson writes today, the prosecution has responded to CAIR’s brief too:

“As support for its alleged injury-in-fact, CAIR provided this court with data solely from a time period prior to the government’s submission of its trial brief, a period when the alleged improper disclosure could not have affected such membership,” the federal government stated in its response, citing The Times.

“Ironically, the very same article, upon which it now relies, was publicly discredited by CAIR executive director, Nihad Awad, who claimed the article was ‘false and misleading,’ ” the government stated.

“All of the harms alleged by CAIR in its memorandum to this Court pertain to its decreasing membership and donations resulting from CAIR”s negative reputation within the United States prior to being named as an unindicted co-conspirator in this prosecution,” the government stated.

That brief was probably a big tactical mistake on CAIR’s part, especially since they’ve now submitted a sworn affidavit that implied Hudson’s article was accurate and legitimated her criticisms against CAIR.

If they deny her facts on this issue again, they would invite questions of whether the claims in the brief were perjured.

It’s nice to see a few people telling CAIR where they can stick it.

So there ARE good journalists.

To Hell with CAIR!

Wait, I thought I remember hearing about the prosecutors responding to CAIR a while ago at LGF. So isn’t Hudson a day late? However, still, it’s good to see that it’s being brought out.

And CAIR? Who does? It was a big mistake for them to get involved–thus forcing the prosecutors to focus more attention on them than likely they would have otherwise.

I wonder if CAIR is still giving out free Qur’ans. They never understood that the more people actually knew about Islam and Islamists, the more it would be rejected.

This is sweet! I think it is time for lunch and a margarita.

Heh heh heh CAIR has lied themselves right between the immovable object and the irresistible force and quite possibly into indited co-conspirator status.

Irony so dee-lish-ee-us, it’s lip schmackin’ good!

Time to revoke CAIR’s tax exempt status and close them down.

If CAIR has only 5 Saudi sheiks for members, they’ll still raise enough money to keep harassing free speaking Americans.

So what does membership numbers mean, anyway?

desertdweller on September 14, 2007 at 1:32 PM

I’m sorry but I don’t understand something here……

Why is a drop in membership/contributions enough justification to remove CAIR’s unindicted co-conspirator status?

Boo freakin’ hoo if being exposed as a terrorist enabler has resulted in a few less American dollars being laundered through CAIR and sent off to Hammas so the Palestinians can blow up innocent Israelis riding some bus in Tel Aviv. CAIR is nothing but a racist organization that provides high altitude cover for the Islamic fundamentalists lurking in some American mosques. At no point has CAIR ever renounced the atrocities of 9/11/01 or ever found reason to condemn the Fort Dix Six, the Goose Creek Two or any of the other terrorist cells that have been uncovered in this nation. IMO, the co-conspirator status is extremely accurate no matter what the relationship with The Holy Land Foundation.

This is delicious!

C’mon, wicked CAIR, stab yourselves in the foot again!

jimbo2 on September 14, 2007 at 1:46 PM

Let’s help to remove CAIR’s unindicted co-conspirator status by, er, indicting them.

AZCON on September 14, 2007 at 1:46 PM

I hope this is the year CAIR is finally shut down.

It probably wouldn’t help much. Cair, if disbanded, will just resurface under a different name.

Thats why I would much rather see them indited, prosecuted, convicted and incarcerated.

Maybe it’s beginning to dawn on our Islamist friends that their jihad through abuse of the legal system isn’t such a cinch after all.

What I don’t understand is why aren’t there any news stories about this trial? For all the lack of news here in Dallas, the site of the trial, you would think that this trial was being held in Outer Mongolia or an a desert island that had means of communication except a note in a bottle. I e-mailed Channel 11, CBS asking for news about the trial and never received a response nor did I ever see any news about the trial. The Dallas Morning News hasn’t had any news about this trial either and I think it is because they are afraid of the Muslims in the Dallas area.
Maybe we need a blogger who has the time to attend the trial and report what is happening there so that we are not in the dark about things related to terrorist funding and the groups that do such things.

TruthToBeTold on September 14, 2007 at 10:39 PM

Well, that article I linked is Rod Dreher, the Crunchy Cons guy, in the DMN, so that’s something. He’s a good writer.

But yeah, major terror trials don’t get the coverage they should. There was that one in the Bay Area a couple weeks ago–an appeal of a surveillance case, not much doubt about the guy’s guilt–that was covered mainly by Zombie. Zoms noted how all the press rushed out to interview the defense lawyers on the courthouse steps and blew right past the prosecutors.

see-dubya on September 14, 2007 at 11:38 PM

They don’t like being labeled as an Unindicted Co-Conspirator? Indict them then.

P.S. There’s a joke about indicting being anti-islamic, something to do with a ham sandwich.

MirCat on September 15, 2007 at 1:05 AM

There’s a joke in there that is.
