Video: The scourge of mascot-on-mascot violence

This isn’t staged, people. It’s an honest to goodness “failure of human understanding.” Human understanding as communicated through pantomime and plush animal costumery, sure, but still.

Watching this sad reminder of mankind’s fate, I’m left with but one conclusion: the dude in the cougar outfit who got his ass beat will never be able to show his face in Houston again. Click the image to watch.

By “scourge” you really meant “awesomeness”, right?

Hollowpoint on September 13, 2007 at 6:18 PM

Can’t we all just get along?

gmoonster on September 13, 2007 at 6:19 PM

I suspect fowl play.

Just a little high pressure AFLAC sales tactic…

The cougar could hardly move. That’s awfully kind of them to give Britney a second chance at her career.

pedestrian on September 13, 2007 at 6:25 PM

Are you sure that wasn’t staged? They do that stuff at football games all the time, at least at the Michigan State games I went to growing up and the Wisconsin games in college. In East Lansing the guy cheerleaders tackle the other team’s mascot and ram his crotch into the goal post repeatedly.

This looks a bit more real, but I’m still not sold.

BadgerHawk on September 13, 2007 at 6:26 PM

Plushie foreplay. I think I’m gonna hurl….

bbz123 on September 13, 2007 at 6:26 PM

I just read the link. Forget earlier comment, though I suspect it was a show that got out of hand.

Good one.

nailinmyeye on September 13, 2007 at 6:32 PM

The Duck mascot was actually played by two separate people - so it wasn’t just one guy with an issue.

Apparently they’re suspended now… at least that’s what a local newscast made it sound like.

Maybe we’ll get lucky and Disney will pull UofO’s rights to Donald there… and Phil Knight can design a new mascot for them too.

jeffshultz on September 13, 2007 at 6:32 PM

That was like a Gutfeld wet dream… the only thing missing was the activity pit.

RightWinged on September 13, 2007 at 6:33 PM

Yea, but in real life, the cougar would have eaten the duck for breakfast. So, it had to be fake.

jihadwatcher on September 13, 2007 at 6:34 PM

Thought I was watching the Fred vs Mitt debate here.

Bradky on September 13, 2007 at 6:38 PM

What? No one got their knuts ripped off? Geez, I expect a bit more from those mascots. It ain’t a college fight unless someone gets their nads ripped open. I wonder if that duck has a ninja suit hanging in his closet?

robblefarian on September 13, 2007 at 6:38 PM

Poor cat, beat up by a duck!

the dude in the cougar outfit who got his ass beat will never be able to show his face in Houston again.

Especially after the little hot cheerleader had to come chase the duck off for him.

Sad

conservnut on September 13, 2007 at 6:40 PM

It really would have been funny if the Duck was girl.

Rick on September 13, 2007 at 6:41 PM

That’s my boy! Go get ‘em Donald. The Duck doesn’t take crap from some sorry @ss loser Cougar. The Ducks whipped them on the field and on the sidelines. Then they went and laid the wood on Michigan. We be bad!

This is a good warm-up for when Oregon meets Washington State. Better look out Butch, Donald’s gunning for you!

Mallard T. Drake on September 13, 2007 at 6:43 PM

jeffshultz on September 13, 2007 at 6:32 PM

Heaven forbid! Donald will live forever. A few years ago Oregon tried to introduce a Robo-duck as a companion mascot. He didn’t take. Donald is bad enough on his own. He doesn’t need any boyz.

Mallard T. Drake on September 13, 2007 at 6:47 PM

I’m not sure that it’s always guys in those suits.

My friend reported that when a womens team at U Wisconsin at Stout beat Oregon, the headline read “Stout Women Stomp Ducks.”

TexasDan on September 13, 2007 at 6:53 PM

Fear the pantomime horse

Kini on September 13, 2007 at 6:55 PM

Quack…Quack…

Of course that duck would get mauled by a Gator…

“Official representatives of the athletics department must be held to higher standards,”

Even the Duck
Just don’t step on one.

Kini on September 13, 2007 at 7:09 PM

I’ll have the wild duck with the mango salsa

Kini on September 13, 2007 at 7:32 PM

Watching this sad reminder of mankind’s fate…

Gee, what an optimist…

Dr. Deborah Frisch DOES live in Eugene, and last I checked she was looking for university work…

sulla on September 13, 2007 at 8:17 PM

I know they stage these all the time, at least in the Pac-10. I’ve seen the Oregon State Beaver against the Washington State Cougar. Usually the home mascot wins. This one looked real just because of the poor quality of the match.

p40tiger on September 13, 2007 at 8:22 PM

Leave the cougar alone!!!

Sorry I just couldn’t contain myself folks

The cheerleaders are cute…I’d fight for them too. I just wouldn’t have gotten my arse kicked like the kitty cat did.

Tim Burton on September 13, 2007 at 9:55 PM

Got suspended for fake punches? The Kung Fu guy with his kids was ruffer then this.

hmmm… maybe ducks can get rabies….

I question the timing.

(it was my turn to say that)

Maxx on September 13, 2007 at 11:32 PM

Full disclosure, I go to Oregon State. That being said, without fail the overwhelming reaction of people I know who go to Duck games without being rabid Duck fans is, “The crowd was rude, disgusting, and disrespectful, and I don’t want to go to another game there.” I know at least 2 people who had trash (including bottles) thrown at them.

As Charles Johnson might say, there’s a baaaaad kind of craziness loose in Eugene.

Sorry Mallard, but the Ducks will be impressive to me the day they ditch those horrendous uniforms (diamond-plate shoulder pads? Really?) and get some class.

PaisleyCow on September 14, 2007 at 12:34 AM

I liked the way they kicked the pylons. I enjoy the small things in life obviously.

nottakingsides on September 14, 2007 at 12:47 AM

Some tuff duck.
My bet?
Tigger could take him.

CBarker on September 14, 2007 at 8:40 AM

I am crying laughing! However…this is still my pick for video of the year:
