Via LGF. And thus was political hay made, and lo the people rejoiced.
And lo, the people kept on rejoicing.
Trivia of the day from Newsbusters: the Times does not require “facts” asserted by its advertisers to agree with its own reporting.
Update: What’s MoveOn going to do with that $100K they saved from the Times? The Washington Times finds out.
Update: So much hay.

Laugh? Why, I thought I’d die!

That’s quite a good ad. If will be the far left’s fault if they don’t pick up multiple senate seats next election. The GOP has practically done everything possible to self destruct.

One thing I love about Rudy, He can bring it at times.
Wish he was not a RINO.
conservnut on September 13, 2007 at 4:29 PM
Go, Rudy!

If you voted Democratic of course that’s what you voted for.

Rudy! hit it over the Green Monster and right into the window of the DNC office.

Great rant, Rudy.

Sheesh… does Fred always look like he sat behind Moses in junior high?
Lehosh on September 13, 2007 at 5:00 PM
This is Rudy at his best. Just like when he called out Ron Paul in the first debate. (well, at least the first one I saw).
Thanks Mr. Mayor, my antenna is up and pointed in your direction.

I would hate for some Lefty retard to make a reference to Hitler youth at her expense.

the Fred Clip is great, check out the part with his little daughter..

I found the cite in the FEC handbook. It looks to me like the Times made, and MoveOn accepted, an illegal contribution.
km on September 13, 2007 at 5:04 PM
If Pinch Sulzberger doesn’t comply, then all the Republican candidates should start kicking butt and taking names at the New York Times.
And from that moment on, EVERY Republican candidate for national office ought to open his speech or comments or chattering class TV appearence with a denouncement of the Times, Sulzberger, Kellor, and everybody else in management, by name, at the NYTimes.
Example: “The New York Times and Arthor Sulzberger Jr, slandered General David Petreaus by accusing him of treason. They refuse to apologize and they refuse to allow a rebuttal advertisement. Sulzberger is a despicable human being, no, strike the “human” part, he’s a barking dog.”
The question I have are: Why is traitor and liar Sulzberger still breathing free air instead of residing in prison for violating the espionage act? His paper sucks, HE sucks, his management employees SUCK.

I think this is the first video I’ve seen of Fred Thompson impassioned about something.

Nice comments, Fred.

At least Fred knows how to grab the low-hanging fruit. I am kind of suprised Romney hasn’t put a video out on this yet.

So much for the ‘fire in the belly’ BS…
This is a horserace folks. If Fred can get through the fundraising hurdles between now and Oct 31 he’ll do just fine come February.

I’m not ready to go on the record about this, but I’m really starting to think that it will end up coming down to Rudy and Fred.

amerpundit, no need to rip csd, agree. No need to rip any candidates or ourselves in an uncivilized way. Let’s just have serious discussions and try to win. The times, the country, the world and freedom deserve it. Regards,
Entelechy on September 13, 2007 at 5:38 PM
I don’t rip on cs. I like and admire the guy. It is fun however to push his Fred button from time to time and get a rant.
conservnut on September 13, 2007 at 5:41 PM
Someone needs to update the height of Fred in Wikipedia. I wonder how that got missed in the candidate section, so far.

Too late. Has to show it before he’s called on it. Called leadership.
JiangxiDad on September 13, 2007 at 5:55 PM
Allah, look what the morons at Ace of Spades HQ have dug up. Looks like the NYT broke the law.
From the FEC handbook:
Somebody should call Rudy and the rest of the candidates and let them know if the NYT doesn’t reduce it’s ad rates dramatically for everyone, including non-political advertisers, then they’ve broken federal election law.
The Apologist on September 13, 2007 at 6:00 PM
And then there’s MoveOn.org’s employee recruitment teaser …..
* Learn the tricks of the trade and be mentored by leaders in the field.

*Learn how to skirt the law by folks who have made a career out of it.

Do they say anything in the ad about it being a job Americans won’t do?
Limerick on September 13, 2007 at 6:06 PM
That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read on this blog. And that’s saying something, cause you’re competeing with that idiot MB4.
Pathetic. “Nope. Too late. No one can vote for Fred. He wasn’t manic enough in his first three political speeches. Game over. Go home Fredheads.”
Good grief.

Ooops, forgot that Reagan is among the taller ones too. Then, so is Billie Jeff.
Entelechy on September 13, 2007 at 6:13 PM
Wow. Fred was so, so, unimpressive. It’s just more of the same rhetoric. But I guess since his history as a conservative is so poor, he has to ratchet up the rhetoric in an attempt to hide from it.

Now where the hell is Mitt and the rest on this?

Hillary focus groups her neckline- Bad
Fred focus groups his lethargy-Good?
Bad sign when a pol. put his finger up in the air to test the wind. Did he change his shoes too?
No time for a second, first-impression.
As for the stupidest thing you ever read on this blog comment, tks for that insight into how your mind works. Saves me the time of reading your comments.
JiangxiDad on September 13, 2007 at 6:27 PM
The groupies said Fred was waiting to get alllll his ducks in a row and would come out and hit the ground running.
That is why Fred is getting the grief. And he isn’t just a little bit weak, he is in serious trouble.
csdeven on September 13, 2007 at 6:29 PM
Good thing for Mitt that he doesn’t have much farther to fall being as how he’s already circling the drain.
If Fred can continue to perform as well as he did here for the rest of the campaign, the nomination is likely his.
Hollowpoint on September 13, 2007 at 6:30 PM
Unfortunately, that probably only applies to political committees.
jaime on September 13, 2007 at 6:33 PM
Fred is “performing well” because this is the bounce after his announcement. Once people stop saying “welcome aboard captain!” and start asking “who are you?” and “where are you taking us?” Fred will fall hard.
BKennedy on September 13, 2007 at 6:33 PM
Mitt leads in Iowa, NH, Nevada, and Michigan. He may eventually have to withdrawal, but to say he is circling the drain now is just more of your groupie mentality showing through.
You groupies are simple priceless!
Bwahahahahaha!!
OK, headed off the the Texas Steakhouse for a steak. I’ll come back and straighten you all out on Fred later tonight.
;-)
csdeven on September 13, 2007 at 6:42 PM
Even though I won’t vote for him, I listened to the Rudy response. It’s great that he said something and largely said the right things- but spit it out already, Rudy. His overly long, self-repeating delivery sounded boring and uninspired, at least to my Midwestern ears. I agreed with him and still almost fell asleep.
His big mistake was making it clear that this was a publicity stunt he didn’t intend to follow through on. He stipulated that it not only had to be at the same discounted rate (a reasonable demand), but that it also run tomorrow. He knows full well that the NYT couldn’t do that even if it wanted to.
Hollowpoint on September 13, 2007 at 6:47 PM
No one’s figured out how to corelate such female-smarts with male-height.
On a serious note, his country needs a strong daddy right now, to reign in the kids. She’s not the one.
Entelechy on September 13, 2007 at 6:51 PM
s/b “this country” of course – note to self “we have a preview button now”.
Entelechy on September 13, 2007 at 6:53 PM
Sorry. Didn’t see that the first time. Thanks for catching it. Didn’t mean to steal anyone’s thunder.
First, I didn’t write “stupidist” I wrote “most ridiculous”. There’s a difference. Second who’s talking about Hillary’s neckline?
And are you suggesting that when pols respond to your criticisms you also disapprove of that?
You’re right about one thing. There are no second first impressions. Though what that has to do with anything is beyond me. Unless you’re suggesting that first impressions are the only impressions we’re allowed to have. Re-reading you’re initial comment maybe that is what you mean. Maybe that’s why I thought it was so “ridiculous”.
You know what? You should save yourself the time of reading my comments. Or maybe invest more time in reading my comments. Either way, whatever you’re doing now ain’t workin’.
Right. That’s why your employer Governer Romney is getting his @$$ handed to him in every national poll since Fred’s announcement. And Fred hasn’t even begun to advertise yet. Whereas your guy has spent millions and he’s still in fourth place. You’re still working hard for your Romneybucks csdeven, but selling Fred’s awful-awfulness is just a lousy business to be in.
The Apologist on September 13, 2007 at 6:54 PM
National Poll – definition:
1. Where The Midwest looks to New York and California for who should be President.
2. A metric used to determine what would happen if the country ever voted as a whole instead of 50 individual state elections.
3. Irrelevant in anything related remotely to politics, because national elections don’t exist.
BKennedy on September 13, 2007 at 7:02 PM
It’s quite possible that he’s getting a temporary bounce from the announcement; however if you look at his approval ratings, not only are there quite a few people out there who’ve still not formed an opinion on him yet, but that the majority of those who do know him, like him. In other words, his support will likely increase as more people become familiar with him.
On the other hand, Mitt has disapproval ratings amongst those who’ve expressed an opinion about him that are deep in Hillary territory. His lead in NH and IA is fragile; obtained only after going 5 million in debt and spending $31 million dollars (compared to $17 million for Rudy and spare change for Fred).
Even if his lead in IA and NH holds, he’s still done for- if 8 months of campaigning and over $31 million dollars can’t garner more than 10-13% support and a disapproval rating of 38% approve, 47% disapprove, then another 4 months and a lead in IA and NH aren’t going to save him.
Stick a fork in Mitt- he’s done. He sealed his fate with the poor debate performance on Sept 5th.
Hollowpoint on September 13, 2007 at 7:03 PM
Wait, so debates are relevant now?
I thought you and other Fredheads said they were Dog and Pony shows.
I guess you guys want it both ways, whatever makes Fred look better than he is.
BKennedy on September 13, 2007 at 7:05 PM
Here’s the Rudy Ad
bnelson44 on September 13, 2007 at 7:06 PM
I just got an email asking for money to place the ad. I think Rudy is as serious as cancer. Rudy and the NYT go waaaay back. He has made a career of sticking a hot poker into their eyes.
tommylotto on September 13, 2007 at 7:09 PM
My math skills are a bit rusty; remind me again how it matters whether it’s a state by state election or national election. In particular, how a state by state election makes it likely that someone in a distant 3rd place with 10% support and a disapproval rating higher than their approval rating would win.
Hollowpoint on September 13, 2007 at 7:11 PM
Will try again hopscotch. Btw, good s/n. Apologizing for your comments in advance. Fred showing “fire in the belly”, after he is accused of “no fire in the belly” is as pathetic as Hillary lowering her neckline because people accuse her of being mannish. Fred’s first impression wasn’t impressive. I can’t make all these connections for you. You gotta have something upstairs. Focus group says you’re low functioning. Notice. Didn’t say stupid.
JiangxiDad on September 13, 2007 at 7:16 PM
I don’t think most people give a damn what this person says about Fred!. It’s the continual nasty, vicious attacks on the others who post here who do not agree with him/her that is upsetting people. There is absolutly no excuse for attacking us because we happen to like Fred!, like what he says and perhaps will vote for him if nominated.
OBX Pete on September 13, 2007 at 7:18 PM
They’re not irrelevant, but at this stage not highly relevant- otherwise Mitt would’ve lost more than just a couple percentage points- but given his lack of support, any kind of drop is disasterous for him. None of the debates so far has had a significant impact on the polling, but they should still be held. Next one is just 2 weeks away, and Fred is participating.
Hollowpoint on September 13, 2007 at 7:19 PM
OK, nothing wrong with using this to try and get contributions- but his campaign can’t afford a $65,000 ad?
Perhaps he misspoke, but when he demanded both a reduced rate and that it be done tomorrow, it smelled like a publicity stunt.
I don’t like Rudy, but I still hope he follows through and places the ad.

George Will’s article was a dishonest smear-job, but Novak’s article was reasonable- but in the end it’s the candidate, not his campaign staff that wins or loses.
Hollowpoint on September 13, 2007 at 7:38 PM
Exactly right. I look to see who NY and CA like, then I vote opposite. And I’m probably not even in the Midwest.

Usually the EU, UN, World Bank, etc. But in this case, it’s all politics and no policy.
