This wasn’t the substantive highlight of this morning’s press conference — this was — but it’s too sweet not to post. Thank goodness Tom Bevan caught it, bad audio sync and all.
To borrow a phrase, MoveOn’s got the Democrats by the soul. Click the image to watch.
Update: Who’s really responsible for the “Betray Us” formulation? Hint: Not MoveOn.

Awesome

Gen. Petraeus, “Needless to say I disagree with the message of those exercising the first amendment that so many generation of soldiers have fought and died protecting”…
Pretty much says it all…….
doriangrey on September 12, 2007 at 1:27 PM
I was just doing math exercises in my head:
1 Petraeus = 6,773,960 moveon.org members
1 moveon.org member
Mustafa Hemmroid on September 12, 2007 at 1:29 PM
Hey, what’s with the filter?
1 moveon.org member equals less than 1 piece of dog flop
Mustafa Hemmroid on September 12, 2007 at 1:30 PM
He has way too much class to sink even close to the scum level!
abinitioadinfinitum on September 12, 2007 at 1:31 PM
Yep, he told them in pretty much uncertain terms…” I may disagree with what you have to say, but I will fight until my death if need be to protect your right to say things I disagree with.
doriangrey on September 12, 2007 at 1:34 PM
I’ll second that.
And his Class Act is unrecognized by the left, who have no idea what the word means – with no point of reference on their side of the aisle.
fogw on September 12, 2007 at 1:36 PM
That’s gonna leave a mark on any moveon.org member who’s not a barking moonbat…so maybe it won’t leave a mark….
Very nice response, though.
jdpaz on September 12, 2007 at 1:39 PM
Please put it in the text for those who can’t watch the video.

If anything, General Petraeus has TOO much honor.
I wish he had made a concluding statement after the second Senate hearing, stating for all to hear how disappointed he and his troops were over the defeatist attitude of some members of Congress (read: Democrats), and how offended America’s servicemen were over the visits to hostile nations by people like Dennis Kucinich and how TREASONABLE it is for them to speak ill of your country while in these hellholes.
I know he is not a politician, but he IS a patriot. It would have been a healthy gesture if he properly labeled the surrender lobby for what it is.
Mustafa Hemmroid on September 12, 2007 at 1:40 PM
More importantly, There are 3 C-Spans now?? Does one of them play music videos?
The General softly scolding them as if they were children. Wait, they are children….
Mazztek on September 12, 2007 at 1:41 PM
I love what he said, though the crazy lefties don’t believe at all that the soldiers give us our freedoms. One lady I knew said that it was the constitution. Um, OK, but if it weren’t for the soldiers defending the constitution, where do you think we’d be?? It’s as if they think us holding up our Constitution to people who want us killed is going to stop them. We need fighters for our Constitutional Rights. This is one thing the lefties don’t get or understand.
StephC on September 12, 2007 at 1:42 PM
They are NOT children. Children don’t know better. These people DO, or should.
Mustafa Hemmroid on September 12, 2007 at 1:43 PM
Liberals are the enemy within. And this General gave them the b-slapping they so richly deserve.
jdawg on September 12, 2007 at 2:06 PM
He is the Man! Well said General!

My Hero!

I think Olby’s getting too much credit, if you want to call it that. I’d better a nickel Petraeus’s smart*ss friends in grade school all invented that name on their own and thought they were sooooo clever. I say this from some experience of my own with kids making a joke about my (real) last name, each one thinking he was the next Mel Brooks.
Attila (Pillage Idiot) on September 12, 2007 at 2:11 PM
I’d BET a nickel, that is.
Attila (Pillage Idiot) on September 12, 2007 at 2:11 PM
Please run for President, General. PLEASE!!
CurtZHP on September 12, 2007 at 2:15 PM
Damn straight. MoveOn are the worst of Americans. GEN Petraeus is one of the best.
ReubenJCogburn on September 12, 2007 at 2:21 PM
As I recall, in 2003 his soldiers used to say that about him when he made them do things that they didn’t like (Like, imagine that, when he wanted them to be nicer and more respectful of the Iraqi people in Mosul). Turns out, again… who would have guessed, that GEN Petraeus actually knew what he was talking about. He still does… no matter what the little minds of Moveon.org say… a full page add doesn’t make it so.
Brad,
CPT U.S. Army
P.S. Most Officers/Soldiers I know hate Moveon/Code Pink. From the bottom of my heart… F%$k You Moveon.org
BadBrad on September 12, 2007 at 2:36 PM
ReubenJCogburn on September 12, 2007 at 2:21 PM
The clowns at moveon aren’t Americans – they simply live here. In thier heart of hearts they live in Cuba, or Venezuela.
Communist traitors, all of them.
jdawg on September 12, 2007 at 2:37 PM
Brad, thanks for your service. I was in the Marines at the tail end of Vietnam, and these people in moveon remind me so much of the dirty hippies that would meet us at the airports coming back from SE Asia. They disgusted me then, and they still do.
jdawg on September 12, 2007 at 2:40 PM
These pinkos just wish they could have a man like Petraeus on their side. They have to settle for Rosie – their version of a man.
On-my-soap-box on September 12, 2007 at 2:43 PM
It was as part of a statement somewhat (but less reasonable and measured)like that where I first saw the “Betrayus” shtick used….sadly, in the comments at Blackfive by someone that objected to the letter he released to the troops urging them to build a better relationship with the locals and remember that they represent the best, most honorable Military in the history of the world.
TBinSTL on September 12, 2007 at 2:44 PM
Yes, there are now 3 C-Spans. The newest, C-Span3, is mainly about history, most of it recent, of course.
Sorry, no music videos.
Bigfoot on September 12, 2007 at 3:29 PM
You ever wonder what it would look like if this real man ever was allowed to say what he really thinks about the MoveOn, KOSkids, etc? Not a pretty picture, I’ll betcha.
Drum on September 12, 2007 at 3:30 PM
BadBrad, this retired Cpt. also hates moveon & code puke as well. My husband who just got on the promotion list for field grade feels the same. The General is the type of Officer we’d follow to Hell and Back. There have been only a few of these individuals who we’ve come across in our respective careers. He is one class act though, that’s for sure.
Bigfoot, our great cable-comcast only gives us CSPAN 1. I even called about the other two as we got them out in HI with our basic package. They informed me that even on the “deluxe” packages it wouldn’t be available at all.
When hubby was there last year and part of this year, he talked about working with the Iraqi National Police (which has one of the worst reputations) and how the guys on the street that he worked with, were for the most part respectful of everyone and helped them with their developing of a better relationship with the locals.
It was absolutely disgusting listening to these moonbat Congress people yacking at the General. He’s got more class in his fingernail then they have in their entire body. I do question their patriotism at moveon, code pinko and all the people on their payroll in the Congress.
Catie96706 on September 12, 2007 at 3:40 PM
They’ve got a soul…?
CliffHanger on September 12, 2007 at 3:46 PM
Absolutely, a Class Act.
The Man can bear to hear his words twisted by Knaves (Dhimmi) to make a trap for Fools (D). As the poet (Kipling) said:
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings–nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,…..
I believe his is the Earth and everything that is in it,
And, which is more, he [has shown himself to] be a Man, my son.
Thank you, Gen Petraeus. And thank you, Mr. Kipling.

Classy, poignant rebuttal from a stand-up gentleman.
Uh-oh. Does this mean the Dems will accuse him yet again of political partisanship? If so, he’s got to be the most highly decorated political hack in history.
CliffHanger on September 12, 2007 at 3:52 PM
Will nonfactor denounce the vile MoveOn.org ad????
Andy in Agoura Hills on September 12, 2007 at 3:57 PM
I’m waiting for C-Span the Ocho.
Tennman on September 12, 2007 at 3:58 PM
Bravo general . . . you have millions of supporters in this country so don’t let the Moveon.Org dirtbags get you down.
rplat on September 12, 2007 at 4:00 PM
Sure do. But just one. And each member of the party gets a little piece.
It’s like Marx’s metaphysical doggie bag!
Harpazo on September 12, 2007 at 4:16 PM
Heh. That waterskiing squirrel has more credibility than hacks like Reid, Pelosi, Kennedy, and the rest of their vile ilk.
ReubenJCogburn on September 12, 2007 at 4:20 PM
Petraeus = Class
MoveOn = No Class.
Lawrence on September 12, 2007 at 4:52 PM
Petreas Acts with Class.
Moveon.org and the Dhimmicrats are Class Acts.
BKennedy on September 12, 2007 at 7:13 PM
Mercy this is gettin uuug’ lee !
sonnyspats1 on September 12, 2007 at 8:11 PM
This is disgusting. The New York Times gave MoveOn.org a special discount for the General Betray Us ad.
Christoph on September 12, 2007 at 8:29 PM
Between you and Kipling, I have nothing more to add, except that this explains the term “an officer AND a gentleman.”
