Digital forensic analyst: Osama video was manipulated

Invisible cuts. You heard it here first.
Krawetz says the inner frame of bin Laden was resaved at least twice, and not at the same time. The images show fine horizontal stripes on bin Laden and a background indicating these came from interlaced video sources. In contrast, the text elements, such as the As-Sahab logo, appear to be from non-interlaced sources.
The September 7 video shows bin Laden dressed in a white hat, white shirt and yellow sweater. Krawetz notes “this is the same clothing he wore in the 2004-10-29 video. In 2004 he had it unzipped, but in 2007 he zipped up the bottom half. Besides the clothing, it appears to be the same background, same lighting, and same desk. Even the camera angle is almost identical.” Krawetz also notes that “if you overlay the 2007 video with the 2004 video, his face has not changed in three years–only his beard is darker and the contrast on the picture has been adjusted.”…
At roughly a minute and a half into the video there is a splice; bin Laden shifts from looking at the camera to looking down in less than 1/25th of a second. At 13:13 there is a second, less obvious splice. In all, Krawetz says there are at least six splices in the video. Of these, there are only two live bin Laden segments, the rest of the video composed of still images. The first live section opens the video and ends at 1:56. The second section begins at 12:29 and continues until 14:01. The two live sections appear to be from different recordings “because the desk is closer to the camera in the second section.”
Then there are the audio edits. Krawetz says “the new audio has no accompanying ‘live’ video and consists of multiple audio recordings.” References to current events are made only during the still frame sections and after splices within the audio track.” And there are so many splices that I cannot help but wonder if someone spliced words and phrases together. I also cannot rule out a vocal imitator during the frozen-frame audio. The only way to prove that the audio is really bin Laden is to see him talking in the video,” Krawetz says.
I wrote about Krawetz’s method of image analysis last month. Here’s his blog-post analysis of the Osama video. Quote: “Osama is as alive as that dude from Weekend at Bernie’s.”
On the other hand, he seems to think Waleed al-Shehri, who’s been dead for six years, is Adam Gadahn, so take his analysis with a grain of salt.

Well, Claymation is a bitch. Let’s give the Savages a C- for effort.

So much for investing in hair color for men.

Like duh. If you could not tell from the very first screen shot, you need glasses.
On-my-soap-box on September 12, 2007 at 5:49 PM
this would also explain the odd turn his last few videos made – don’t forget the video that came out right before the 04 election where it sounds like UBL had seen Fahrenheit 9/11. Now this video that makes him sound like Nancy Pelosi. We can manipulate video to make it do anything and we’ve seen movies where people are taken from one video with sound from another and combined to make a third unique video. I don’t see why the terrorists couldn’t do the same thing, especially with the improvements in technology.
My guess is Al Qaeda command made this video and the 04 video by getting someone who knows americans, maybe the traitor American Al Qaeda (Adam soemthingorother), to put a sound track together that would hit americans and put that under a video of UBL talking.

Why is it that just because the video was not recorded all in one take we come to the conclusion that its fake? I really don’t care either way but am I missing something?
Why do we care if this was recorded in bits and pieces? Don’t the references to current events tell us all we need to know?
Zetterson on September 12, 2007 at 5:51 PM
If the references match the freeze frames and the cuts, doesn’t it raise some important questions?
And honestly, how many edits would you need on this type of video? I doubt they had to do a lot of story boarding for this type of production.

That sucker is worm food now.

I didn’t attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying that I approved of it.

Apparently, AQ’s #1 heavy metal fan also has the mad computer skillz. What a surprise.
Squid Vicious on September 12, 2007 at 6:05 PM
Yes, good point, do the references take place during the freeze frame or during the moving video image?
Zetterson on September 12, 2007 at 6:06 PM
What do UBL’s latest video, the (ex) al-Reuter’s stringer in Beirut who “enhanced” the smoke and F-16s in photos, and the flying saucer hovering over Mexico City have in common?
That with modern video and CGI technology, almost anything is possible.
And seeing (and hearing) is no longer necessarily “believing”.

I thought femme fatale Adam Gadahn was such a savvy media wiz?

I hope this dude doesn’t analyze those staged moon landings.

Forget rumors or evidence. If this turdbasket were alive, you’d be hearing from him monthly, not every four years.
Every time the dhimmicrats yip and scream about Iraq, he’d pop up like the groundhog in Caddyshack and do his little Nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah dance.
Conservnut said it best: worm food. (God, the sh*t worms eat!)
thejackal on September 12, 2007 at 6:17 PM
You would think the US Government at large or the CIA would have better ways to make this video rather than a multitude of sloppy edits. I guess all the funding for this operation went into disseminating the fake story of 9-11 over the past six years, and cuts had to be felt somewhere with the Troofers breathing down their collective necks about to rip the true story wide open. For shame Karl Rove, I thought you would do better.

Very interesting AP. Thanks.

Yeah, maybe outsourcing at Tora Bora wasn’t so bad, after all. I like the dead part.
Attila (Pillage Idiot) on September 12, 2007 at 6:29 PM
Didn’t I see this a/v editing on an episode of The Simpsons?
stonemeister on September 12, 2007 at 6:40 PM
Uncle Jimbo at Blackfive had a good explanation last year about that ToraBora “outsourcing.”

Shhhh, if bin Laden is dead then you know the Democrats will declare the war won and demand we disband our military to pay for socialist healthcare.
Buzzy on September 12, 2007 at 7:28 PM
Zetterson:
if the references are made from cut up audio, and the audio overlays still images, then how can it be “real” is the point.
Someone took some audio and spliced it up to sound like current events, duped it in to an older video, had to use still frames because the video wouldn’t match the audio no matter what, and put it out as new.
And the MSM laps it up, with renewed demands on the Bush admin as to why we haven’t captured UBL, as if once this happens all terrorism would cease for all time. No word yet on the failure to capture Adolf Hitler, making WWII’s European campaign an utter failure apparently.
Neo on September 12, 2007 at 7:29 PM
It helps explain why he was wearing the same dress as in the last video.
Reminds me of when Livia Soprano (Nancy Marchand) passed on and David Chase resurrected her for an awkward scene in The Sopranos.
Valiant on September 12, 2007 at 7:31 PM
I’d say I think he’s dead and I’m happy about it, but then Christoph would appear and call me a pig. So I’ll be sensitive and say nothing.
Happy Christoph, you jerk?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Let me guess, Adam Gaddamn has his hand far up OBL’s butt and was moving Osama’s head and mouth through 7th century digital manipulation?
profitsbeard on September 12, 2007 at 7:47 PM
I have an idea. Let’s make our own Osama video. Perhaps we can ‘leak it’ to Al Jazeeeeera and make the message one of surrender. Just tell the Jihadis to come out of their caves, lay down on the ground and give up.
Worst case scenario is that Al Queda will realize how easy it is to fake a video and come to grips with the fact that their leader is dead.

I knew it! Bushco made this fake video to try to fool the sheeple into thinking Osama’s still alive! They’re trying to keep the people scared enough to continue supporting Bush’s insane war!!! They’ve known Osama was dead for years! They’re just using Osama’s corpse as a meat puppet now! EVIL BUSH!!! EEEEEVVVILLLL!!!!

it is nice to see someone pick the vid. apart. thank A.P. for the info. i also know there have been several colored beard references as well. but wasnt the beard the first dead giveaway ?? does anyone honestly believe a man being hunted like a dog living in caves and jumping from third world village to the next would stop at the local x-mart to purchase some hair dye ? hes dead !! worm food. wishing there were some virgins instead of the eternal flames of hell licking his evil soul.
palefaced on September 12, 2007 at 9:14 PM
I’m not gonna say “toldja so”, but I still think it’s 50/50 that he’s been dead since 2002 or 2003.
RightWinged on September 12, 2007 at 9:36 PM
Is it possible that if OBL is pronounced dead or captured a percentage of people will decide, the terror war is over?
Speakup on September 12, 2007 at 9:42 PM
This video should really boost the stock price.
Cheers.
Mcguyver on September 12, 2007 at 9:48 PM
would you dye your beard because the “chicks” in the next cave are really hot and not turned on by grey bearded fanatics?
palefaced on September 12, 2007 at 9:51 PM
The “chicks” in the cave next door probably have beards too. Come to think of it. They might have hooves and horns as well.
