The argument about absentee ballots just doesn’t fly. I always vote absentee. If someone stole my ballot from my mailbox or the postal union cast it, I would be under the impression it had not been sent or had been lost. So, I would contact the rigistrar of voters to get my ballot. And if the theif cast my ballot and I also voted there would be some indication of an irregularity. But if Hakim always dressed up his 17 year old son in a burqa and gave him the wife’s ID card, who would ever know?

This is insane,right out of the liberal playbook,
lets go vote,don’t need id,h!ll you just need someone
to say(trust me,no need to verify)yup thats who he or she is.

Better,and best yet,lets cover our faces,and see how many
polling stations we can get to—to increase our side by
fraudulent voting by hitting multiple voting booths.

Oh and while were in disguise,why don’t we flatten the
other sides vans tires,to prevent the other side from
voting.

No picture ID,you can’t vote,anything covering your face,
you can’t vote.

This will not stand. Elections Canada is stacked with Liberal cronies and they stepped too far over the line this time.

People here (Quebec) are talking about protesting by going to vote in ski masks. I may consider doing so myself if this moronic ruling is not reversed.

And the problem with the Lebanese Canadian evacuees mentioned above, is that our lax immigration laws and citizenship requirements have as usual been abused. A large percentage (I forget the exact number) of those evacuees have gone back to Lebanon. Nice, eh? Get a free ride out of Dodge on Canadian taxpayers’ tab (which they are not) and they go back to the likely future site of another war. How many will we have to evacuate next time?

This may not stand. The Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition agree that this is unacceptable. The Elections Canada “decision” flies in the face of legislation recently passed and supported by the two main parties. I suspect that, when Prime Minister Harper gets back from Australia there may be some change in this decision.

i think they would have made a stronger point if they had gone in wearing halloween masks or brown paper bags over their heads instead. Then they would have been asked more forcefully to remove them and they could then point to the niqab as not being any different. Of course the elections people were going to bend over backwards for niqabs and not make a scene but they wouldn’t have done so for tweety bird masks

The head of the elections board is right. Absentee voting is exactly the same. There is no proof whatsoever that the votes cast on the ballot are from the recipient of the ballot. It’s no different then not lifting your veil (or Halloween costume mask, if they really want to be inclusive). It makes this whole argument mute.

Yes, I have no problem with Canadians needing evacuation. But 50,000 Canadians were visiting Lebanon? After the evacuation, where the evacuees were less than grateful, people were wondering how many of these were Canadians of convenience; Lebanese people that received Canadian citizenship then left back home with no loyalty towards Canada.

There was supposed to be an examination of dual citizenship after that incident. People that come to Canada, attain citizenship, go back to their own home countries, and then call on Canada for help should they ever need it.

That’s absurd. Laws that allow, what is for all intense and purposes, anonymous voting. The voting officials couldn’t have even been sure that those were women.
