New Vent: Laura Ingraham brings Power to the People

posted at 8:00 am on September 11, 2007 by Allahpundit

Laura Ingraham’s second third book, Power to the People, hits bookstore shelves today. Michelle interviewed Laura about the book, about issues ranging from the war to immigration to those Cialis ads with the guy throwing the football through the tire, to Laura’s life and faith. Here’s the first of five segments.

Laura nails one of the key elements in engaging in a struggle against an ideaology like Islamofacism; we as a country must become invested intellectually, emotionally and personally in the victory over it. Too many here have seen this war as an excuse to energize their political stances or personal agendas, regardless of the greater harm they may do.

The bottom line of this war on terror and the war in Iraq is that we must we must win not for America’s prestige or even to prove that the American Way must always prevail, but to crush that specific brand of all-consuming oppression that if left unchecked would burn through every corner of the world.

As an aside; today and all day, Remember 9/11. Don’t let the memory fade.

Not to nitpick, but this is Laura’s 3rd book.

simon on September 11, 2007 at 8:54 AM

Yes … power to the people. The left has turned that phrase into a catch all for tyranny and socialism. We need to take it back.

Always liked Laura …

Nice interview. Looking forward to the rest!

Side note: Brian, what do you cut these “Vents” on? Are you using AVID or Final Cut Pro? I notice a “film look” on this particular episode.

Brilliant reasoning from Laura. This was worth watching. I wish I could tie our administration’s leaders down and make them watching.

Now don’t have a conniption, Secret Service… I’d let them go afterwards.

Thank you Laura and Michelle for highlighting the facts without fluff.

As a 25 year veteran (USAF) and having been one of the original moonbats in the 60′s; my 9/11 occurred in September of 1970 when I came face to face with a 12 year old VC with an AK-47.

As the analogy goes a liberal is conservative that has not faced their life changing moment yet. I can not understand why many of the libs have failed to see that 9/11 was meant to be their life changing moment-those that were not changed do not have any emotion. However, I will continue to support any action that will protect them until they see the light.

Excuse me while I pay my respects with a moment of reflection.

Excellent! Two of the most powerful voices of reality in America discussing the most important issues of the day.
Thank you and I too look forward to the next installment.

An amazing interview. Thank you Michelle for bringing Laura to Hot Air and thank you Laura for participating.

Yakko77 on September 11, 2007 at 9:59 AM

This is very very good work on the part of Michelle, Laura, and HotAir as a whole.

Persuasion is very important in a free society. Interviews like this will go along way toward that end.

The production value on these Vents has gone WAY up. Great work.

Matticus Finch on September 11, 2007 at 10:14 AM

I don’t blame Laura for putting most of the PR blame on the Admin. However, you can’t underestimate the affect of the MSM and the Dems on shaping public opinion. Heck, I’ve seen it brainwash people who should know better.

TheBigOldDog on September 11, 2007 at 10:15 AM

Laura is one of the great women of our time–just like MM. I admire her and I respect her. Keep up the good work/fight ladies. You do us proud.

Great interview. Gotta get Laura’s new book.

infidel4life on September 11, 2007 at 10:29 AM

Laura gives a rather poignant reflection of 9/11/01. Thank you, Michelle, for bringing it to us. I hope and pray that her message with her new book goes pandemic, changing hearts and minds. Our nation and our world desperately need to know that message, and I can’t think of a better opportunity to make it known than on this anniversary, accidental though the correlation may be.

We are in a clash of good versus evil, and, six years later, evil seems to be the more popular choice among even our own people. If that seems strong, I would ask which is worse, choosing to fight and win a long, ugly war, or choosing not to fight that war and letting those who do evil continue to spread their poison. It is so logically simple that war is the only good choice here, and yet we can’t seem even to accept that. I am dismayed by scenes like those from Zombie in SF and that spectacle of a hearing in DC yesterday. These scenes dishonor those who died six years ago and also dishonor those who have died in Afghanistan and Iraq.

I agree with Laura that we need leadership that embraces the bully pulpit as a bully. As W has not, “the people” do not know what to believe and are swayed by popular culture and the media.

Surely the biggest bullies in recent history have been FDR and Ronald Reagan, two completely different visions but two awesome sets of skills to meet them. Regarding FDR, we all know what happened after 12/7/41. Had 9/11/01 happened on Reagan’s watch, I can assure you that “the people” would know what we’re up against. I can also assure you that we’d ALL be fighting this war like our survival depends on it. Those who would oppose would be overwhelmed and sidelined at the very least.

Evil will not fight a fair fight, and it’s high time that our president understands this problem and loses the gloves. He is way too nice to those in Congress, the MSM, and other world leaders who oppose him in these matters. The blood of those who died six years ago still cries out for this fight, and we as a people owe it to them to win this fight.

May God bless you both, Michelle and Laura, for your contributions to fill this vacuum of information that we have. May God bless those who grieve today and those who fight for us today. May we pause to pay our due respect and remember why we fight.

flutejpl on September 11, 2007 at 10:46 AM

This was a wonderful interview. Simple, yet point blank and clear.

Laura makes good points here, and I will purchase her book.

BTW-Michelle, I hope you will be writing another book very soon.

This interview demonstrates the need for all of America to get behind this war against the Islamo-Nazis. A person does not have to like war to be fully involved in it. There is no fun in killing even though some people who walk this Earth deserve death.

As we enter the 6th year of the 9/11 Murders, we must be fully mindful of the phrase “Power to the People.” We must be fully mindful that we are not only fightening terrorists, but we are also plagued by too many civil self servants who want defeat so that the terrorists will “give them a break,” and that those devotees of PC, appeasement, and Burka action gear think that strength though weakness is the way to attain victory, and that the MSM are vying for the position of Minister of Information to the Caliphate.

We must gather our strength, demand victory over the Islamo-Nazis, and we must survive as a nation, and as a people.

BTW-Michelle and Laura, I have made your photograph my screen wallpaper…truly a great photo of two ravishing, red hot All-American babes! This is what I call keeping America beautiful!!!!!!

And, as always…I will not submit.

The False Dervish on September 11, 2007 at 11:14 AM

Ingraham sure is a strong woman. My admiration for
her and Michelle is ever growing. Together or apart
their influence is tremendous and I thank God for
them every day.

Thanks for the interview. I look forward to the next installments.

Laura’s radio show isn’t broadcast in my area. I’ve heard her occasionally while on business trips out West and thought that she (or her sound engineer) did a great job with humorous music and sound clips. This Vent definitely made me want to read her book. I’m particularly intrigued by her comments about transforming the culture.

I’m looking forward to parts 2 through 5. Now…is there a Wii battle between Michelle and Laura scheduled for part 6 of the interview?

Anton on September 11, 2007 at 11:45 AM

YAY Vent.

I appreciate the reasoned approach that Laura brings to the table. It is good to know there are people who ‘get it’. It is good to know that there are people who don’t blame America first. It is good to know that there are people who believe we are the good guys and that a strong America makes the world a better place. . . even if that means we have to fight a war.

ThackerAgency on September 11, 2007 at 12:04 PM

Perhaps someone can answer this question for me….

Have either Michelle or Laura ever testified before the Senate and the House on any issues like terrorism, broadcasting, illegal immigration, etc?

If so, when did this occur?

The False Dervish on September 11, 2007 at 12:06 PM

Thanks for a very enjoyable Vent.

No matter how much they may cooperate, our ‘good friends’ are deeply invested in the global caliphate because after all that is the purpose of moderate Islam.

As a nation we just can’t afford to keep our heads in the sand.

Drum on September 11, 2007 at 1:31 PM

I also want to say that the casualness of the interview makes a huge difference. The case for winning must be made accessible to we average Joe’s and Jane’s who are not privy to the inside workings of policy. I wish the president would learn to speak casually and coherently and do it more often. It may be a little late for that, but he certainly could stand to make the effort.

Michelle on September 11, 2007 at 1:36 PM

As you wish, Michelle. But you cannot blame some of us for hoping. :-)

The False Dervish on September 11, 2007 at 1:49 PM

BTW-Michelle, since you are online, the next time you write a book, could you please do a book signing here in New York City? I have three of your books that I would like you to autograph.

Thanks again.

The False Dervish on September 11, 2007 at 1:51 PM

With all due respect to Michelle, I hope she doesn’t take any permenant TV or Radio offers. Work that she does needs thoughtful reflection and serious research before offering it up for public consumption. The need to constantly be producing “product” for a daily show might dilute her effectiveness. I dunno, maybe it’s just my own limitations be projected here.

I like what she is able to share with us in her occasional O’Reilly guest-hostings and her other various appearances; I certainly am impressed enough that I want more, I just suppose that she knows what speed she needs to operate at and respect that. I suspect that is why HotAir is so successful; she shares the chores with others who are equally top-notch.

Still, great interview and I look forward to Laura’s book when I get it. And Michelle’s next book too…

Texan on September 11, 2007 at 2:38 PM

Impressive. Thank you Michelle.

Wuptdo on September 11, 2007 at 2:39 PM

Laura’s right on about the Bush Admin’s P.R. program … there ISN’T one. Somebody from the W.H. oughta be on TV every freakin’ day talkin’ about what we’re doing in Iraq, Afghanistan, the P.I., the H.o.A. and everywhere else we have Troops deployed. They’re letting the enemedia set the tone. Our troops are winning but the W.H. isn’t telling us about it, then they can’t understand why support has dropped.

Great interview Michelle.

Tony737 on September 11, 2007 at 4:28 PM

President Bush could indeed be more forceful in “marketing” the war, but to be fair, every word he says is either slashed down, distorted or ignored by the most enemy-friendly media this nation has ever experienced. The problem is by far more the media’s than the president’s.

Would be great to see more of Laura here at Hot Air.

Halley on September 11, 2007 at 4:52 PM

The media should be less biased. And pigs should have wings.

I’m with Laura on this 100%. If we can’t find a Prez who can go over the media to reach the people and set the terms of the national debate, then shame on us.

petefrt on September 11, 2007 at 5:23 PM

The problem is not really finding a Prez who can go over to the media…the problem is finding one who WILL go directly to the media like Reagan did.

Pres Bush is simply a “good ol’ boy” who has not learned the art of verbal self defense and only know he has begun to defend himself.

Instead of constantly saying that he respects their right to say what they want, Bush should respect HIS right to answer back and defend himself.

Manners, fairness, and courtesy are wasted on the hardcore leftists Democrats.

This is where I get my “reality tv”. Awesome interview!!!
IMHO Laura was dead on about the Ronald Reagan Effect (talking over the media directly to the people). I truly hope we can get someone in the oval office (2008) with the same gift of gab. Can’t wait for part two. Kudos to two great Americans, Michelle and Laura!!!

dddave on September 11, 2007 at 6:02 PM

Why is such brilliance so rare in politics these days? Do the people who should be running the country shun public office because the media et al treat all political figures it disagrees with like dart boards?

imshocked on September 11, 2007 at 6:10 PM

On September 11, 2007 at 5:35 PM, The False Dervish rocked.

Now one could argue, even if he had the will, this one doesn’t have the ability, but that would be ‘ridiculous’ :)

petefrt on September 11, 2007 at 6:16 PM

Excellent job Michelle. This is the way interviews should be done. Actually giving your guest a chance to speak without some lefty drowning them out or having the host, ala Chrissy Matthews, interrupting and spitting all over them. Also not having the pressure of a commercial break is nice, so you can string together a few cogent thoughts and not just a 30 second soundbite answer to every question. Keep up the great work.

Get Matt Drudge on!

Statement of Michelle Malkin, Investigative Journalist and Author
April 22, 2004
Mr. Chairman and members of the subcommittee, thank you for the privilege of testifying before this subcommittee. Senate Bill 1906, the Homeland Security Enhancement Act, closely tracks many of the recommendations I made in my recent book Invasion on how to fix systemic failures to detect, detain, and deport immigration violators who undermine our safety and our values.

What ever happened to Senate bill 1906?
I’m guessing not much, otherwise we would have more enforcement.

A really great subject for a quality HA vent by the ladies!

Thanks a bunch for all your hard work!

My favorite quote:

America didn’t bring al-Qaeda to Iraq, it’s democracy in Iraq that made the extremists panic—their greatest fear is that if the once capital of the Islamic empire fell in the lap of democracy, what would “protect” other parts of the “land of Islam” from “falling” too!?
