Anti-war nut strikes blow for peace by killing Dutch student with an axe

I’ve never liked these “renegade nuts as emblematic of the movement” stories, especially since Olby pulled it on MM and Laura Ingraham last year after that lunatic who mentioned them in his Freeper profile sent him an envelope of fake anthrax. But there are, after all, enough incidents of greater or lesser vandalism in this vein to fill a book and Krazy Keith did indeed almost have an Olbgasm last week at the thought of Geraldo wanting to spit on the boss, so here you go. Straight from the mouth of the killer’s lawyer:

The suspect, Carlos Hartmann, 41, of Tecumseh, Mich., has confessed to the Sept. 8 killing on a train platform in the southern city of Roosendaal, defence lawyer Peter Gremmen said.

Gremmen said Hartmann wanted to punish the Netherlands for its support of the war in Iraq…

“He hates soldiers, and says that the army kills people, so it would be legitimate if he were also to kill someone . . . from the American military – or from its NATO allies,” Gremmen said in a telephone interview.

When he failed to find a soldier at the Roosendaal train station, “he got such a crazy, disturbed idea that he killed a civilian,” Gremmen said…

BN/De Stem quoted a witness who asked to remain anonymous as describing Hartmann as striking the victim in the back of the head with the axe. It also quoted an unidentified family member from the United States as saying Hartmann has suffered from emotional problems since his early 20s.

He’ll be the left’s new hero as soon as he returns to the US for trial.

And yet it’s always conservatives who are labeled as “hating” people…

corbettw on September 11, 2007 at 4:40 PM

Man … I feel bad for the victims family and friends. This idiot, in keeping with the traditions of the left, only made a problem where there previously was none.

Your always a hero if your anti war

food for oil

NEW YORK – Two portraits emerged Monday at the trial
of a wealthy Texas oilman: that of a greedy
businessman who paid kickbacks to Saddam Hussein’s
regime for lucrative oil deals — or of an American
hero who tried to avert the Iraq war.

Oscar S. Wyatt Jr., 83, is accused of secretly
obtaining oil from Iraq in the 1990s after Iraq’s
invasion of Kuwait and the Gulf War led to sanctions
meant to isolate Iraq from the rest of the world

He said that two former Iraqi oil officials would be
among witnesses at Wyatt’s conspiracy trial and that
they would explain how Wyatt managed to get oil when
others could not.

Miller said Wyatt paid millions of dollars in
surcharges to Iraq, part of hundreds of millions of
dollars collected illegally by Iraqi leaders that
should have gone to humanitarian needs.

Shargel attacked the corrupt nature of the
oil-for-food program, flawed U.S. policy toward Iraq
and the dependence of Americans on Middle East oil.

“Time and time again, he showed his loyalty to this
country,” Shargel said. “His heart was an American
heart. His loyalty was to the United States. His
patriotism was unwavering.”

Hate Crime?

- The Cat

MirCat on September 11, 2007 at 4:42 PM

This will be COMPLETELY ignored by the MSM, because despite the long pattern of unhinged and violent behavior from the “peaceful” anti-war left, they can always pretend (because they control the information distribution) these are “isolated incidents”… I wish someone had time to keep records of this stuff… It’s just like the fact that hardly anyone knows about all the GOP headquarters that were shot at during the 2004 election cycle, and something like 50 GOP “get out the vote” vehicles’ tires slashed by the sons of top Democrats in Wisconsin, or the famous road rage incident over a pro-Bush bumper sticker, etc. etc. etc. Pattern, not isolated incident.

RightWinged on September 11, 2007 at 4:44 PM

The guy sounds like a blogger from The Daily Kos.

A peacenick who hates killing, so he murders someone. Makes about as much sense to me as a vile, Leftist, who supports the troops, but hates the military.

OhEssYouCowboys on September 11, 2007 at 4:55 PM

This was inevitable, just like on July 4th when a peacenik shot that soldier before committing suicide.

As sure as the sun rises members of the extreme far left will start snapping like dry kindling. Some will commit violent “direct action” against the “fascist imperialist” powers (the neo-Weather Underground, the Pink Army Faction); some will drift further to where the super-duper far left meets racist extremism (cause they both hate the Jooos); some will convert to Islam or weird cults; others will kill themselves out of despair, like Meinhof.

Sad. But political failuer will be too much for many of these people at the fringes to bear.

I guess one man’s terrorist is another man’s murderer.

Enrique on September 11, 2007 at 4:56 PM

He’ll be the left’s new hero as soon as he returns to the US for trial.

He’ll cop a plea …. Temporary Moonbatism brought on by an overdose of watching “Countdown”.

fogw on September 11, 2007 at 4:56 PM

Has anyone checked to see if that axe was registered to him? You know, if they just would’ve run a background check on him this NEVER would’ve happened! s/off

I’m wondering if his family knew about these violent tendencies and that he was travelling to Holland? Might we get some background here? It’ll be up to the bloggers to dig up the facts no doubt.

Horrible no matter how you look at it….

Biffstir on September 11, 2007 at 5:04 PM

Don’t question their patriotism while they’re busy defiling the military’s

I got word this morning from Gathering of Eagles that the Vietnam Veterans Memorial had been vandalized, so I headed over to check it out for myself. Sure enough, I found several stones covered with an oily substance…

…The most tragic part of the vandalism is that the damage appears to be permanent. The Park Service employee who talked to me said that the initial diagnosis was that the oily substance had stained the stone. He said another analysis would take place tomorrow.

How do you say ‘Allahu Akbar’ in Moonbatese?

RedWinged Blackbird on September 11, 2007 at 5:08 PM

Remember folks, they’re not representative of the left, or the anti-war movement in general…except for those times when they represent the left, the anti-war movement, and indeed the will of the entire American people.

Or some such sh!t

Predictable lefty response in 5…4..3…

A peacenick who hates killing

No, they do not hate killing. They hate when a white, Christian, capitalist nation kills the warriors of a non-white, non-Christian socialist nation. That is what they hate.

From what little Im getting off of dutch newspapers.

Picture from the scene

Picture of the murder victim

http://www.bndestem.nl/multimedia/archive/00555/thijsgeers1_555977b.jpg

What Im getting from poorly translated Dutch papers

This guy was a very small guy. They say he is 1.36 meters tall. He never served in Iraq but seems to have been booted out of some kind of airforce

Says he hates “Bush’s war” and that he waited for two days in the woods outside that commando bse trying to catch someone leaving.

A person who witness the murder say he had “Dead emotionless eyes” and they say he just stood over the body after the murder waiting for the police to arrive

William Amos on September 11, 2007 at 5:15 PM

Heavy couple of news days. This is tragic. Even more tragic, if he had actually had the balls to follow through with his original plan and killed a U.S. servicemember, there would be thousands here praising him.

BadgerHawk on September 11, 2007 at 5:19 PM

I really don’t think this is a left/right thing here guys and gals. It just so happens that the political views of insane people coincidentally align with those of our left wing types. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that all left wingers are crazy people. I’m just saying that they happen to agree with crazy people.

It also quoted an unidentified family member from the United States as saying Hartmann has suffered from emotional problems since his early 20s.

Which is quite a typical story for schizophrenia. This was Yet Another Raving Nutter (YARN?) wandering around, probably unmedicated and out of control. This one isn’t about politics, folks, it’s about mental illness. Of course, if you want to make the case that, as a Raving Nutter, he fit fairly well into the society of the left, well, that’s another discussion…

bofh on September 11, 2007 at 5:23 PM

The killer had tickets to the Oprah show, too.

Prayers & well wishes to the family & friends of the victim.

Yup. Pretty much my point.

Also from site his brother had just died and he was pratically homeless living in Holland. He left America and move to holland in 2002. So seems he left pre Iraq war but after 911

the victim of the psycho moonbat hate I mean.

Topsecretk9 on September 11, 2007 at 5:49 PM

Really though thats just horrible. uck! The guys a disturbed leftist zombie killing machine. Just goes to show how far an unbridled ego consumed by self rightous indignation can take a person. In other words a zero trying to be a hero!

Kim Hartveld on September 11, 2007 at 6:08 PM

Have ya ever noticed that peaceniks are the meanest most murderous kind?

TheSitRep on September 11, 2007 at 6:14 PM

Disgusting. The “compassionate” “reality-based” Left in action once again. Unfortunately I expect to see headlines like this more often as they get progressively crazier.

ReubenJCogburn on September 11, 2007 at 7:01 PM

It also quoted an unidentified family member from the United States as saying Hartmann has suffered from emotional Liberal indoctrination problems since his early 20s.

There I think that says it all.

I’m sure his anti war ideals will make him a big hit in the cell block .

Mojack420 on September 11, 2007 at 7:20 PM

His rational for murder is the same as the islamofascist.

MattSkosh on September 11, 2007 at 9:42 PM

As ye sow so shall ye reap.
(I’m editing myself here.)
The liberal hate machine, which has been doing all it can to tear down our President and our efforts to defend ourselves, has finally found someone agitated enough, emotionally disturbed enough, to act.
They’ve been sowing hate for six years-actually seven, ever since George Bush won the White House. You keep hating that long, something like this is bound to happen.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of the victim.
