A Yemeni detainee, Mohammed Ali Em al-Zarnuki, warned his panel of three U.S. military officers that inmates would attempt suicide unless guards stop interrupting prayers, moving detainees during prayer time and whistling and creating other distractions.

A threat or a promise.

Bring in the Marine corps marching band, I think we have a resolution to detaining all of the Gitmo jerks. The numbers shold be much less in a few weeks of band practice.

I couldn’t believe this article, then I remembered it was written by al AP. What a bunch of putzes. Don’t they realize that all this whining doesn’t do them any good? How about 1 year of protein shakes instead of Duck a l’orange with rice pilaf? How about no prayer rug and no koran and the only text is Dyanetics and we put them in a room without any windows for months at a time (and tell them Mecca is due south). I am sick to death of hearing about how bad these scumbags have it at the hands of our soldiers. They are lucky to be alive, and given the kinds of assaults on our guards, they are lucky not to be beaten to a pulp.

Whoever said earlier that battlefield sentences and firing squads was right on the money. It seems they are more of a problem to us in Gitmo. If only we could get firing squads to handle their ACLU lawyers, too. Sorry, now I’m just getting greedy.

You know, I wish they would not merely “attempt” suicide, I wish they would succeed. Can we not provide implements to that end? A rope? Perhaps a sharp piece of metal? If they really want to off themselves sans a bomb-laden suicide vest, I suggest we help them accomplish their mission in life. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Bryan, it doesn't matter who's abusing whom, because when the detainees are doing the abusing, it's still our fault. Their bad actions are always in reaction to our actions. Listen to Evan Sayet's Heritage Foundation lecture (again), and it will all make perfect sense.

The headline misleads, as it was intended to, on the point of who is doing the abusing.

Exactly. The only thing that surprises me is that Yahoo! isn’t running this on their front page right now. That’s why they do this, folks. They want that headline on home pages and front pages of papers so that tens of millions of Americans will breeze by the paper on their table in the morning, or skim headlines when they pull up their browser and work and think “we keep torturing at Gitmo”. Even though there’s been no “torture” at Gitmo.. those mother-f-ers actually live better than they did in their home countries, and virtually all have gained weight because they have steady hearty meals.

As I’ve said before, the image of Gitmo=Abu Ghraib has been well drilled in to the American people’s minds. Outside of news junkies, people don’t even know the difference, or that what happened at Abu Ghraib was rare, and had nothing to do with “torture” or “interrogation”… it was a few bad seeds screwing off, and they’ve rightly been punished.

I was just reading this. Sounds pretty tame compared to any US prison.
