I was in college when that came out. It has the distinction of being the first film I consciously realized was neo-Marxist propaganda while I was watching it. There have been countless more since then, but few quite so heavy-handed.

Since the physics of the situation (darkness behind the window) rule out an object behind the window being seen, it must be a reflection. Therefore, the EBE must have been standing in front of the President, immediately next to the cameraman.

The most likely explanation is that his ability to project the mental illusion of being a human did not affect the camera.
