Update: Quite a scoop for SITE. Even Laura Mansfield doesn’t have this yet. Looks like that Taliban filthbag was right, as was Newsweek, whose jihadi sources told them last month that Osama was alive, kicking, and staying above the fray of the alleged Zawahiri/al-Libi lovers’ quarrel.
Update: Correction — the video’s expected in the next 72 hours, not on 9/11.
Update: Hard to tell from only one frame, obviously, but it’s odd that the backdrop and Bin Laden’s clothing appear identical in both images above. Maybe it means nothing, maybe it means that the videos were in fact shot roughly contemporaneously, or maybe it means he’s so isolated (or ill?) that not only isn’t he moving around but that even new clothing, if not hair dye, is scarce.
Update: SITE’s getting hammered by traffic but their item on the tape is only a paragraph long. The Blotter’s report is just as good.

No, I don’t give a hoot what “face recognition software” might say in the future, there’s nothing better at spotting a fake than the human eye/brain combination, mainly because we’re spotting things that can’t be defined mathematically.

I don’t mean to speculate here, but are we sure that’s him? Sure al Qaeda will claim it’s him, but he looks very different.
The previous beard had mostly gray hairs. This one is all black. His face looks similar to OBL’s, but yet very different. His beard is shorter. Isn’t a longer beard a sign of knowledge in Islam/The Middle East?

The speculation that this isn’t Bin Laden strikes me as silly. Remember all the pre-war speculation that pictures of Saddam weren’t really of Saddam?
What’s Bin Laden going to do? Advertise for a double? Send someone to Switzerland for plastic surgery?
I’m betting that we’ll a photoshopped photo of him with a lovely narrative from the “poet” and “spiritual leader” running in the background, along with other charming images – like of falling towers, dead American soldiers and contractors, Bush with Devil horns and the like. Heck, it may be produced by Hugo Chavez.
That being said, I don’t doubt for a minute that there are big plans in the works to attack us or other infidels.

Maybe it’s part of a code. I know they do use props and backgrounds to send messages that are “sub-textual” as they say. Did anything occur shortly after the 2004 message? Any attacks or plots disrupted just as they were about to go off?

Fox said that dyeing one’s beard darker is fairly common, but didn’t have a photo.
I, personally, don’t think it’s him. I’ve always been freaked out by how “kind” his eyes look. It creeps me sideways that he looks like somebody’s sweet old grampa. That guy doesn’t have those eyes.

Don’t care what y’all say, I have thought Osama dead for a few years now. These AQ’s are grandstanders, they like to impress each other with greater and greater macho posturing. The fact that Osama is not out there doing this every week or so is, to me anyway, clear evidence that they have to manufacture him every so often to keep everyone guessing. He’s not the kind to keep a low profile no matter what the risks. Also there’s the matter of money and using him as a figurehead for the cause—both might dry up if Osama was known to be dead?

Hmmmm, wonder what he’s gonna talk about. Wonder what new insights he’ll shed on this Islamic jihadist problem. The Jawa Report has some sort of Audio Preview
UPDATE II: I’m listening to the audio now. Starts out with sirens, gunshots, and panicked people screaming. There is a voice over in Arabic. Very menacing. Not at all like the usual. There’s shouting and screaming, and gunshots. Very different than most of these types of audios which are usually calm sermons with nasheeds (music) in the background.
No bin Laden audio, but towards the end of the audio is a nasheed praising Osama bin Laden. Then gunshots. Then it ends. Scary.
Sounds threatening to me. And considering that I monitor a lot of this stuff, if I even think its scary, then I think that’s saying something. It may not be a direct specific threat about an impending attack, but it is a general threat. And it reminds us of exactly who it is we’re fighting.

Troy, at first I thought you were kidding with your comment that he looks like a corpse in the second pic. But after looking closely the picture, you may be correct. His face truly does look like a corpse. He has the palor of death and lips look blue. His right eye appears closed while his left eye has the glaze of death. He appears stiff and unaware. Is this some sort of joke? Does anyone else think that this might be a pic of his corpse which has been photoshopped to appear to be alive?

The top pic was a video frame. The bottom picture is a photo, much clearer.
It looks like they have finally learned out to use an old copy of Photoshop to paint in a new beard over the old one to make him look younger. They’re decades behind faking shots of 10 quarters going into cups, so for this next video just look for the picture to be like the bottom still frame, except the jaw goes up and down like on Month Python.

Notice how the face in the top picture is the same color as the background, and the same is true on the bottom picture. That’s about as sophisticated a photoshopping job as using the default Word font for a 1972 typewritten memo.
