Video: iPod Touch

I feel as I did the first time I saw Julie Banderas. It’s almost mystical, even if the WiFi iTunes download is kind of unnecessary and the storage capacity is absurdly low (especially compared to the iPod classic) and you can get almost all the same crap plus a phone if you’re willing to pop for another two bills.
Still — mystical. Click the image to watch.

Oh boy, another toy for Americans to play with. Maybe they can play with their iPods while watching The Simpsons. Don’t go outside and take a walk, or ride a bike, or do something physical. No way, just play with an iPod – all day.
OhEssYouCowboys on September 5, 2007 at 4:54 PM
That’s just sad man, really sad.
conservnut on September 5, 2007 at 4:55 PM
PLAY WITH IT WHILE WALKING.
Allahpundit on September 5, 2007 at 4:56 PM
That’s love. Why are you afraid of love?
Allahpundit on September 5, 2007 at 4:57 PM
Let me guess AP, you’re an Apple Fan, right?
Kini on September 5, 2007 at 4:58 PM
You say that as though it’s a bad thing.
Slublog on September 5, 2007 at 4:58 PM
Allahpundit wants: iPod.
SeeDubya wants: guyPod.
see-dubya on September 5, 2007 at 4:59 PM
You may be giving him more credit then he deserves.
Zaire67 on September 5, 2007 at 5:00 PM
iPod so iLive
Zaire67 on September 5, 2007 at 5:02 PM
I don’t own a single piece of Apple equipment. But I look at this, and…
I’m only a man, people. A man with needs.
Allahpundit on September 5, 2007 at 5:02 PM
Uh, yeah, usually when I see folks with an iPod, they’re exercising, not watching the Simpsons.
On an unrelated note, how do I view the video without
infectingloading my system with iTunes?calbear on September 5, 2007 at 5:03 PM
only 16GB which is sad, the classic iPod now has been upped to 160GB, but the iTouch only 16GB…
zane on September 5, 2007 at 5:04 PM
Why unnecessary? Kinda cool…you’re out and about, and wanna get that song or album you just thought of…no computer needed! Waiting in line at Starbucks could at least be “productive”…
JetBoy on September 5, 2007 at 5:04 PM
My iPod nano goes jogging with me. :)
JadeNYU on September 5, 2007 at 5:04 PM
Sure, and get a nice bump on the head from the concrete.
jihadwatcher on September 5, 2007 at 5:08 PM
Heh! And a man is judged by his toys.
Kini on September 5, 2007 at 5:09 PM
Yeah, that’s the thing, isn’t it? I would be all over it if it had decent storage, but for now I’ll stick with my 60GB 5th gen iPod. As much as I was glad to see the new version, the 16 GB storage was a major letdown.
Oh, and as for the truly, truly moronic notion that iPods and exercise are incompatible, I exercise a lot more since acquiring mine. I like to listen to the radio when I exercise, but NY radio is dreadful, especially at night, and not having something decent to listen to was cutting back on my workout schedule. With an iPod, it’s no longer an issue.
Kensington on September 5, 2007 at 5:10 PM
All it needs is a hole in the bottom of it, and geeks will be in heaven.
lorien1973 on September 5, 2007 at 5:16 PM
The disturbing nature of this is almost impossible to comprehend.
lorien1973 on September 5, 2007 at 5:18 PM
Maybe the truly, truly moronic people didn’t understand the point of my post – that it’s just another toy for Americans to play with, while life passes them by. That is, until they can purchase another “upgraded” toy, and another, and another. Maybe the truly, truly moronic people are those who are preyed upon [because they're truly, truly morons] by those who produce toy after toy for Americans to play with. You just keep buying this crap. In 3 months, there’ll be an “upgraded” version for you to buy, too.
OhEssYouCowboys on September 5, 2007 at 5:18 PM
16 GB = a lot of MP3s encoded at 128K.
Realistically nobody can listen to 2,567 frickin’ different songs during an hour at the gym or running in the park.
ScottMcC on September 5, 2007 at 5:19 PM
I have a Zune. Yes I’ll admit it. I got it because it can already do video like they are showing with the Itouch. The Zune has 30GB of storage, so I will stick with it for awhile.
In a few more years, the Itouch will have more capacity and then I would go for it. Frankly, 8 mm thick is not that strong a selling point. I will gladly trade some mm for storage capacity.
Mallard T. Drake on September 5, 2007 at 5:20 PM
I clicked on the image and got an error message at the Apple site that “a plugin associated with this page failed to initialize properly”.
see-dubya on September 5, 2007 at 5:21 PM
You need QuickTime. It plays fine for me.
Allahpundit on September 5, 2007 at 5:23 PM
yeah it is awesome for music, but for video 16GB is not enough imo, i have the last gen video ipod which has 80GB, lots and lots of videos on that.
But i agree 16GB and the fact that this is new and has all the new stuff the iphone has means it is fabulous. I would get one if my old iPod wasnt working so well.
AP Buymas is coming up, maybe someone culd get it for your buymas pressie.
zane on September 5, 2007 at 5:24 PM
Got QT. Opened it up and it still wouldn’t load.
Oh well. I think I’ll go for a walk. Maybe lift a barge, tote a bail, something.
see-dubya on September 5, 2007 at 5:33 PM
What is a buymas pressie? Is that some kind of religious ceremony I’ve never heard of? Is it like a bar mitzvah? Too many damn different religions.
jihadwatcher on September 5, 2007 at 5:36 PM
Of course a month after I break down and buy a 30gb video… /cry
If I didn’t already have more on my current ipod than that thing would even hold I’d be cutting myself right now.
When they are 30gb+ I’ll be interested.
bj1126 on September 5, 2007 at 5:36 PM
shame on you.
Now, you’re just making me uncomfortable.

Dude. What’s wrong with toys and buying things. Life. Don’t talk to me about life. Your ascesis-fu is righteous. Wow, neat. Oy.
wowbagger on September 5, 2007 at 5:44 PM
I have every confidence that Apple will continue to be a market leader in the vital “overpriced, over-hyped, functionally-inferior MP3 player with crappy desktop software” category.
Meanwhile, competitors like Creative will be busy kicking Apple’s ass on features, usability, and reliability.

buymas is what christmas has sadly become.
zane on September 5, 2007 at 5:45 PM
Sorry, but I’m guessing The Boss still won’t buy you one. :)
Dave Shay on September 5, 2007 at 5:51 PM
The storage capacity (or lack thereof) kills it for me. My musical tastes are diverse, my attention span is short, and as a result I’ve got a full 60GB iPod sitting next to me right now.
16GB? Psshh. The touchscreen is sexy as hell and I love my iPhone, but I’d use the thing to play tunes, not screw around with the touchscreen.

Good news for AP:
here’s the link to the quote in the last paragraph “One more thing.”

I real feel for the poor in the nation…. Hey Michelle: throw AP a bone here!!!
IntheNet on September 5, 2007 at 6:20 PM
It’s only 8 and 16 gig because Apple opted to use the far more reliable flash memory instead of the hard-drives.
I have loads of video on my iPod–it comes in great on trips and what not. Nothing like sitting on a plane cracking up to old Kids In The Hall episodes.
robblefarian on September 5, 2007 at 6:42 PM
Mr. Kimmer has a guy Pod.
He ain’t gettin’ an iPod.
Kimmer on September 5, 2007 at 6:48 PM
I have a 40gig Zen Touch. I agree it sounds better than my iPod. Creative uses a better encoder. But I must disagree with you on reliability and ease of use. My wife had a five gig CL Micro and it was a piece of junk. Also, the software that is bundled with the players are anything but user-friendly OR intuitive. The iPod is much easier to use.
robblefarian on September 5, 2007 at 6:49 PM
I like my 80 GB video iPod much better. 16GB is how much my movie collection is. I also have about 2000 songs. What will happen to those?
mram on September 5, 2007 at 6:49 PM
8 gb iPhone marked down $200, Allah. Will the Boss hook you up, now?
William Teach on September 5, 2007 at 7:23 PM
Kimmer: How’s that working for you? I know there have been some bad Charter Bulldogs made in the past, but I’ve heard the new ones are well-made. I’m amazed they can can keep the price well below the price of an iPhone.
see-dubya on September 5, 2007 at 7:24 PM
Isn’t this just the Apple version of the Nokia Internet Tablet?
Not a bad price for a smaller screen and no expandability, I suppose.
Asher on September 5, 2007 at 7:46 PM
Sorry, See-dub, but Mr. Kimmer’s guyPod is more German, like a Walther P-1 (postward P-38). He seems to like it, though. Won’t be able to pry it out of his cold dead hands.
Kimmer on September 5, 2007 at 7:51 PM
Wow. Sure glad I didn’t nag my boss to buy me one at $600. I’d feel pretty silly about now.
RedWinged Blackbird on September 5, 2007 at 7:53 PM
Ah, German engineering. Nice.
see-dubya on September 5, 2007 at 7:59 PM
Did anyone notice the little GOP jab on the new iPod video?
I popped up a little post about it here:
Apple Releases New GOP Scandal: The iFoley
As I said, I work in Marketing. This kind of thing doesn’t just “slip by.” But then again – everyone already knows which way Apple goes…
I proudly use Apple products to force my fascist, baby bombing, rain forest burning, right wing agenda down people’s throats. ;)
whatthecrap on September 5, 2007 at 8:02 PM
Couple of iPhone early buyers at work were really not happy about the size of the price cut.
Ripclawe on September 5, 2007 at 8:41 PM
Coming out of my lurkerdom to say, I am in the same boat as you, Allah. I want one, I haven’t scraped up the dough to get one.
Still, now I can get an iPhone for 200 dollars cheaper–the target is lower now. Just load up a page with ads, and then make some “bash Mormons/Catholics supporting Immigration while Fred! fiddles and Mitt kisses Ted Kennedy” post and I’d imagine you would get a nice 2-5000 post thread… maybe enough in ad revenue to afford one.
Though I, personally, would want to slit my wrists before participating in a thread like that… all KINDS of chaos in there.
Oh, and as for Apple being Leftist? Yeah, but they still make a darn good product. I’m a happy conservative using them!
Vanceone on September 5, 2007 at 8:53 PM
You’ve got that right about Itunes. I used for a few weeks and then purged my computer of every trace of that nightmare. I will say this about the Zune-ware: it is easy to use and I can upload anything I want to my player (provided it is in an acceptable format). I can say that about Itunes.
Mallard T. Drake on September 5, 2007 at 8:55 PM
Missed that, but, if you are in an at&t store with the display, notice that it shows an anti-Bush article from the NY Times, with a picture of Senator Swimmer.
William Teach on September 5, 2007 at 8:59 PM
I have windows.
They’re in the walls of my house.
I open them.
There is a full-color, stereoscopic and stereophonic universe available, -with no downloads needed.
Upgrades itself, daily.
profitsbeard on September 5, 2007 at 9:05 PM
I’m holding out for a really good deal.
RedWinged Blackbird on September 5, 2007 at 9:09 PM
Wait – so there’s been pro-Bush stuff on the NY Times?!?
Hah!
whatthecrap on September 5, 2007 at 9:10 PM
I sync my playlists to my 8525 and listen on WM. All of my music organizing is done on the PC. What more does one need? Does anyone do any more than shuffle playlists when they are “on the go”? If you want to buy music online, I assume you can do that with any smartphone with an internet connection and storage. With the removeable microsd slot, I never run out of memory.
BTW, who’s going to thumb through 1000’s of cd’s with “coverflow” anyway? Impractical feature if you ask me.
nottakingsides on September 5, 2007 at 10:01 PM
Oh lighten up, Francis. You’re going to need a chiropractor if you keep up that pose.

Let me know when you figure out how to roll it back to the version I had about 6 months or so, there is something I would like to undo.
Herikutsu on September 6, 2007 at 1:00 AM
Okay, I was sitting watching the video with my jaw dropped. I can’t imagine what Apple will come up with five years from now-look what they’ve done in just a few short years. I love my iPod. But I don’t need wifi added. Lovely as it is, I don’t need a touch screen, either-the click wheel works just fine.

Just wait till you actually demo one of these things and hold it in your hand. This is one of those products you have to play with before you can truly appreciate the technology. It’s very impressive.
whatthecrap on September 6, 2007 at 11:07 AM
ohess, we got it. And you’re here commenting aren’t you? And repeating yourself, to boot, on the best use of time. Dude.
