Hsu skips bail hearing, attorneys don’t know where he is; Update: On second thought, says Kennedy, I think I will give his money back
posted at 1:09 pm on September 5, 2007 by Allahpundit
And he’s still got his passport! I’m simply woozy at the thought of how awesome this scandal may yet prove to be:
California businessman Norman Hsu, a former New York apparel executive and major contributor to Democratic candidates and causes, failed to appear for a bail reduction hearing Wednesday, leading to speculation that he again is a fugitive from the law, FOX News has learned.
Hsu’s attorneys say they do not know his whereabouts, and that their client did not surrender his passport.
Maybe he’s stuck in traffic? Could we really be so lucky as to have one of Hillary’s, and the Democrats’, top donors turn this glowingly radioactive? Stand by for giddy schadenfreudean updates!
Update: Arrest warrant issued.
“We do not know where he is as of this moment,” Hsu’s attorney James Brosnahan informed the judge. Foiles had earlier stated that his office had received a call that Hsu was going to be “approximately 10 minutes late,” Foiles said…
“There was some contact (with Hsu) a few hours ago,” Brosnahan said outside the courtroom, though he would not elaborate other than to say he was “not sure” where Hsu was when they spoke.
Update: Like Riehl says, he went to Hong Kong the first time he had legal troubles in the U.S. That’s the first place they’re looking now, I’m sure.
Update: Awesome: “On Monday, Mr. Hsu was required to turn his passport over to the court, but he told court officials that he had not been able to find it then. Mr. Brosnahan said they were hoping Mr. Hsu would bring it to court with him today.”
Update (Bryan): Hsu’s corporate shells are dropping left and right.
In campaign finance reports, Hsu’s companies are listed as: Next Components Ltd., Cool Planets Ltd., Because Men’s Clothes, and Dilini Management. But none of the companies have online footprints or appear in fashion industry directories that I have searched. The only official recognition of any of these companies that I have found is Next Components, in the form of a filing for a certificate of corporation with the New York Department of State, Division of Corporations — but even that doesn’t hold up to closer scrutiny. The filing was from May 6, 2005, and when I called the Division of Corporations, a representative there told me that the filing needed to be renewed every two years for a fee of $9, but Next Components never responded to the renewal notice.
The filing lists 561 Seventh Ave., Suite 1301 as the address for Next Components, but I called Handro Properties, the management company that runs the building, and was told that not only have they never heard of Next Components, but “Suite 1301″ doesn’t even exist.
As I reported yesterday, it turns out that an address Hsu listed in his campaign finance filings—455 Fifth Ave.—is the site of the Mid-Manhattan Library.
There’s more at the link. Nothing about this guy checks out.
And where did all the money come from?
Update: A day after insisting that he’d keep Hsu’s money, Patches Kennedy jumps overboard with the rest of the Dems.

I’m with Allah, this has potential to be a really fun scandal. Particularly when we find out where the money came from.

Um, I didn’t say they can’t get away with it. I said they can’t walk away from the deal they made with the Chinese. Not ever.
It doesn’t matter how “inconvenient” Hsu becomes for the Clintons. They can’t do anything to him without authorization.

Q.) Hey Confucius, how did the Democrat supporter leave the country before trial?
A.) Hsu fly.
Q.) What do you call Hillary’s favorite outfit that she ever got from a supporter who set up fraudulent textile corporations?
A.) A pantHsut
I’ll keep thinking…

Hsu, fly, don’t bother me.

Oh sure they can, thats what grifters do…Bill and Hill are two of the biggest and best grifters in history. I mean seriously what is the Chinese government going to do start a nuclear war because the Clinton’s made a bunch of campaign promises to them they they never even tried to keep?
doriangrey on September 5, 2007 at 3:48 PM
They kept at least some of the promises. Remember the ICBM info the Chinese got?
IrishEi on September 5, 2007 at 3:51 PM
What’s the big deal about some Chinese guy with a funny name? Did you see where Rosie said Whoopi “was good” on the View? Or that Halle Berry is three months pregnant? Or that Brad and Angelina are hoping for a fifth child!? C’mon folks, you’ve got to keep up on the news.

I’m not a Fredhead but I’d love to see him go at HRC hammer & tong for all the past fundraising stuff — whether he’s the nominee or not he’s well-placed to do it. This provides a good opening for the discussion, and again, whether he’s the nominee or not he seems like the perfect person to bring it up. It’s something the RNC should be working on.

Hey, Woodward and Bernstein, here’s are real story you can sink your teeth into. It’s got everything: A national political family caught in a money scandal who also keep their own enemies list; felonies already committed; attempts at cover-ups; strange disappearances of key players. Follow the money.
Knowing the Clintons’ reputation with dealing with enemies, Bob Woodward must be waiting for another Deep Throat to come forward in order to protect himself.

The Situation Room… “The best political team on television”
Hasn’t mentioned it yet.

The distinguished Henry Waxman didn’t see anything at all that alarmed him in Chinese fund raising scandal.
It’s pretty amazing what Waxman sees when he’s investigating the other party.
gabriel sutherland on September 5, 2007 at 4:13 PM
China, perhaps?
jdawg on September 5, 2007 at 4:14 PM
Funny you should mention that. When this story first broke, the media said they could not locate the Paws for comment because they were “away on vacation.”

Who is this guy and why is he injecting large sums of money into Democratic campaigns?
bnelson44 on September 5, 2007 at 4:19 PM
Heh heh heh yea, remember what happened when they gave that information to the North Koreans and they tried to use it…Funny how all the NK ICBM’s blew up on the launching pads…
doriangrey on September 5, 2007 at 4:19 PM
Maybe, on the other hand remember how Bill got away with it last time? Everyone connected either plead the fifth, or fled the country. To quote David Byrne’s “Same as it ever was”…

If I were a betting man, that’s what I’d put my money on.

Turn Sandy Bergler upside down and shake him like a wet, rat – and I’ll betcha that Hsu will fall to the ground.
OhEssYouCowboys on September 5, 2007 at 4:43 PM
Uh oh. Looks like the Clinton War Room may have claimed their first victim in an effort to tamp dowm this story.
there it is on September 5, 2007 at 4:44 PM
I decided to play around a little and see what I could find out on the players in this drama.
Mr. Hsu’s attorney – the same one who “hoped Mr. Hsu would bring his passport with him” when he finally decides to show up in court is James J. Brosnahan. Mr. Brosnahan has given over $56k in less than 4 years to solely Dhimms (Kerry, Gore, Boxer, DCC, Obama, Dean, Feinstein).
The judge in this case H. James Ellis. He’s not a big donor. There’s a Harry Ellis in LA who donated $1k, to Boxer in 1998, but is may or may not be him. His is an elected position, and he is up for reelection in 2012. (I honestly suspected he was a lib-appointee, but apparently not.)
But through it all, here’s the money quote:
Well DUH! Here’s a question Mr. Smetana: If you thought for all those years that he had fled to Asia, why the heck would you not think it now – and maybe, oh, I dunno, take his PASSPORT?!? I cannot find anything on Mr. Smetana, so I don’t know what his political leanings might be. Anyone else have a clue?
lan astaslem on September 5, 2007 at 4:49 PM
Oh — one more thing I found. Mr. Brosnahan’s law firm (Morrison & Foerster) donated another $50k in 2002 to the Democratic National Committee. Still no sign of any donations to any conservative groups/candidates…
lan astaslem on September 5, 2007 at 4:53 PM
LOL!
baldilocks on September 5, 2007 at 4:55 PM
The Clintons are a pair of thugs, so much that media professionals are afraid to mention any of the many scandals they have festered. The only chance to corner Shillary with the right questions..like ummm whats your Iraq strategy (her position still eludes me) and Socialist healthcare is during the Debates…get em Freddy!
malkinmania on September 5, 2007 at 4:55 PM
Is anyone looking closely at the other Hillraiser donors?
Is there a list?

Those are some interesting facts. As Deep Throat once said to Woodward: Follow the Money!

Not sure if the current list is out yet, although one has been submitted to the FEC…but you can get an idea who’s donated to previous campaigns by visiting the FEC website.
The disclosure database search tool is located here.
Miss_Anthrope on September 5, 2007 at 5:07 PM

I found a list for you. It is on Hillary’s site no less:

Hsuh money
Look for the democrats to counter this with a wave of investigations into Haliburton, Gonzalez and other Bush admin stuff.

The mainstream media’s line is if the Hsu flits, bury it.
chsw
PS: Perhaps Hsu may be found in Ft. Marcy Park.

So Martha Stewart rated a GPS tracking device but Mr. Hsu didn’t, how odd.
Maxx on September 6, 2007 at 3:17 PM
Hillary, and all the democrats are untouchable.
Even if proved that Hsu is a foreign agent, all they have to say is, “We didn’t know..we thought he was a regular guy.”
Even if proved that Hillary, and the democrats knew Hsu was a foreign agent, and it was proved that they conspired with said foreign agent, the liberal democrat zealots would deny the evidence and claim that evidence was fabricated.
Even if Hillary were to announce on national TV that she was conspiring with Hsu, and was herself an agent of a foreign power, she would say, “because I believe that we need a government who will take care of its people, not the kind of government we get from some one like George Bush.”
Her support would stand up and cheer, because those same leftist true believers want a government that will supply them with their every need.
“To each according to need, from each according to ability to pay” is what the modern democrat party has become. It is what my neighbors, my coworkers, my family want from government.
Just ask your favorite liberal what they want from government.

Hsu skips town just in time to make room for the trial tomorrow in LA, where Peter Paul tries to get Hillary dragged back into court as a defendent. They have VIDEO now!
