Islamic Jihad’s “presents” for the school kids at Sderot

As the school year began in Israel, 7 Kassam rockets rained down on Sderot, near the Gaza border.
Twelve Sderot children were hospitalized at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon Monday morning in the wake of a barrage of seven Kassam rockets fired by Islamic Jihad terrorists in northern Gaza.
The missiles had slammed into various parts of the city, including one that scored a direct hit on a house next to a day care center. A staff member at the day care center told Army Radio that the director ran into the room to give warning that an attack was underway. None of the staff heard the Color Red alert system that provides a 20-second window in which to seek shelter from attacks.
IDF soldiers raced into the building and carried 15 babies out to safe shelter, despite confident declarations by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert a day earlier that all the schools in Sderot were adequately protected against Kassam rockets.
A friend of mine recently moved to Israel. She’s not in Sderot, but she is seeing the on-the-ground reality of Israel’s predicament.
Today was the 2nd day of the new school year for Israelis. This morning, Islamic Jihad sent 7 rockets from Gaza into Sderot. One landed in the courtyard of a daycare. Thankfully, no one was injured, but 12 Sderot children, including some of the babies, were hospitalized for shock. The parents of Sderot are doing what the Israeli government is not: protecting their children. They are not sending them back to school until something is done to actually protect them. PM Olmert and his pitiful excuse of a government have yet to learn the lesson that you cannot negotiate with or appease people who simply and only want you dead.
On their website, Islamic Jihad proudly stated that they sent the rockets as a “present for the start of the new school year.”
Presents for the school year.
As my friend reminds us:
Sderot is a town in the western Negev, near the border of Gaza. In the summer of 2005, Israel carried out the “Disengagement,” expelling every Jew from Gaza: every soldier, every person living there, even those who have lived there for generations. Ariel Sharon pioneered this independently of any deal with Gaza or the PA; they pulled out as a good-will gesture in exchange for absolutely nothing, not even an insincere nod at peace.
Can you imagine having to keep your child out of school because some barbarians, to whom your government capitulated just a couple of years ago, are now launching a couple of rockets per day at your town and the government isn’t doing anything to put a stop to it?
This is what you get when you allow terrorists to succeed: More terror.
Olmert appears to be completely out of touch on the situation in Sderot. He says that the town’s fortifications are enough, and that more fortified schools are being built (they’re not). His Ministry of Education has a novel, short-term approach to the problem.
The Ministry of Education, at least, acknowledged the dangerous conditions in which children are forced to attend their studies and came up with a different solution: hold classes in bomb shelters this year.
All of this has the terrorists crowing.

When is the next Israeli election?

Great post, Bryan. You get it-unlike Israel’s current crop of leftist, Kapo appeasement monkey “leaders”. It is so disturbing. They want our babies’ blood spilling on the pavement. This is Palestinian glory-dead Jewish babies. Anyone who can’t recognize this evil is in bed WITH the enemy.

Olmert’s still PM? Unbelievable. I’m almost afraid to see what’s happening in Lizardia.
RushBaby on September 4, 2007 at 11:17 AM
Hmmm… perhaps we could get a special session of the US Congress to convene in that day care center…
Perhaps then they’d get a CLUE about appeaseing terrorists and surrender.

Fox reported on these missle attacks over the weekend and in every report they never failed to mention that over 300 of these rockets were launched into Sderot in the month of August.
Think about that folks. 300 rockets in a month and how many times have you heard of even a single account of a rocket attack against Israel? The only good news is that while these attacks do instill fear they thankfully for the most part fail to inflict casualties. That doesn’t take away the fact they are shooting at the Israelis on a daily basis. I guess we shouldn’t go after gang bangers who just shoot at people as long ass they don’t hit anyone either?

Hmmm, charming. My parents gave me a backpack as a present for starting school. The Palestinians give their kids bombs. I think I prefer my gift.
Disengagement wasn’t a good idea. But I could see where Arik and the Israeli government was coming from. For years, everyone talked about how the barrier to peace was Israel “occupying” Gaza. There were unrelenting terrorist attacks against the Kibbutzes in Gaza. Arik and the government basically said, “We don’t want to deal with this anymore.” And they pulled out. Arik said the only time they’ll ever go back into Gaza is to deal with terrorists. It’s a shame he had a stroke because, for all his faults, the people who launch these rockets would have Arik and the IAF to deal with.
That said, the situation in Gaza is exactly what Ariel Sharon said it would be. He said that the people in “charge” (the PA at the time) have no interest in actually helping their people. Rather, they are only interested in killing Jews. And look at the complete unrest in Gaza as a result and the resulting chaos in Sderot, etc (and what happened to the greenhouses 24 hours after Israel left). Of course what the press is not telling us is that many Palestinians want the Israelis back in Gaza to deal with the murderous thugs now running their government and their lives.
The really ironic part about the Gaza thing is that in 1967 after the Six Day War, the Israelis offered Gaza back to the Egyptians who had been in charge of it since 1948. Egypt basically said, “thanks but no thanks.” Leaving Israel to deal with the abject poverty and squalor the Palestinians live in. All those apartment buildings and hotels built in Gaza (the ones with water and electricity)? Built by Israel. Makes you think.

It’s time for those evil Israeli’s to go on the offensive against those poor, starving, misunderstood residents of Gaza.
That’ll make the nightly news.

Might I suggest that any further instances where you would use “Animals” to describe the Jihadis, please use the term “Monsters.” Barring perhaps the mosquito, there is no animal as vile as the Jihadis.

When Muslims talk about the “occupation” they mean simply that dhimmi Jews are occupying their Ummah. So, it’s not about real estate. The occupation, in their view, never ends until ever last Jew either is murdered, pushed into the sea, “goes back” to Europe, converts or submits. No peace treaty is worth the paper it’s ever going to be written on. THEY have to be beaten back.
And, actually there have been several press reports of Palestinians wanting the IDF back in Gaza. Gazans certainly had more freedom under Israeli occupation than under Hamas occupation.
The 1967 war was one of the greatest disasters to have ever hit the Jewish people-why? Instead of dealing with the Palestinians then (ie: get out and stay out), they were left in the West bank and Gaza to fester.

I quite agree with this. Using the term animals-while emotionally appropriate – ie: how do we convey in a word how we, civilized people, feel about these barbaric murderers? In the end, it actually does a semantic disservice, reducing the actions to primitive, or somehow instinctive behaviour. There is not a single animal who sends its own young to commit suicide and take others with it. Not a single animal that delights in the news or sight of their dead young. The jihadi does.

And in return for the rockets Israel & US continue to hand money to them.
frreal on September 4, 2007 at 12:07 PM
Things like this worry me. I’m pretty sure Isreal has the capability to simply walk an artillery barrage from one end of Gaza (and the West Bank) to the other, simply pounding the whole thing flat.
This would be a bad thing.
But I worry about things like this pushing them to think that it would be less bad than what they’re currently going through.
Those kind of choices seldom turn out well.

I hate this. This place is less than 30 miles from me, as the crow flies, and there is nothing I can do to change the situation. And you know if Israel does finally retaliate, the world, who haven’t been hearing a word about these rocket attacks the past 7 years, will only hear that Israel is attacking the poorpalestinians again. Sigh/grrr/sob/pray.
tikvah on September 4, 2007 at 1:21 PM
Any news reporter who reports on the so-called “conflict” without mentioning the DAILY rocket attacks HAS TAKEN THE PALESTINIAN SIDE and has Jewish blood on their hands.
Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, MSM.
I pretty much think of reporters like I do car thieves and burglars, these days. Same moral level, most of them.
I mean, why ISN’T this news, other than gross anti-semitism on the part of the “news deciders?”
Merovign on September 4, 2007 at 1:56 PM
5 more qassams today.
Oh, and more travesty on Olmert’s hands: Olmert fails to halt destruction at the Temple Mount. What does it take to get elections in this country?!?!?!
tikvah on September 4, 2007 at 2:01 PM
A lot of people have criticized the Bible and the Judaeo-Christian religions because of the passages in the Old Testament where it is recorded that God ordered the Israelites to slaughter their enemies completely. A completely barbaric order, by our standards.
And then I see this, and I wonder if maybe Yahweh knew what He was talking about.
Is it really more civilized for the Israelis to allow these atrocities to happen to their own children than what Joshua and David did back in their day?
I can remember when I would never have even asked that question.
Lancer on September 4, 2007 at 7:24 PM
Maybe a couple ‘random’ missiles sent back over the border would help the Palestinians to celebrate their school year. I fear that the loser/appeaser Olmert is going to spell the end of Israel. He is the weakest leader they have seen in my memory.
Is there any reason why Likud (spelling) doesn’t get out of the ruling coalition and force elections? Have the Israelis lost their nerve?
