I recognize that your malignant cancer of a government caused low skill, low education workers to flee to America, and that their contribution to you is in the form of remittances which you recieve through taxation. After all Cauldron, why have a working economy of an adult nation when, like an infant, you can just suckle on your neighbor to the north.

There are only three realistic solutions, all of which might be too unilateral for Calderon’s tastes.

1: Absorb Mexico into the United States. This basically involves a military takeover of Mexico and forming the 51-60th states.

2: Forcefully remove Calderon and the Mexican aristocracy from power. This is less overt than war but has the same effect. Essentially what you’d want to do is make all the illegals protest working from their jobs thanks to the evil Americans they had been leeching off, and get them to either go back or expose themselves. Deport them back to Mexico and build a giant brick wall.

3: Embargo Mexico and block the processing of any remittance checks back there. Starve the beast. I imagine Mexico will have a much different view of cooperation when we remove his best sources of income.

I know stats can lie, but from this report, over 1,000,000 jobs have been lost from 1993-2004. Most of those are in manufacturing. A lot of people claim that NAFTA creates more high paying jobs for Americans. That doesn’t do the guy who worked in a factory for 20 years much good though. You have at least 1,000,000 less jobs, and how many million illegals competing for whatever jobs are left?

Those 1,000,000 jobs didn’t go to Canada either, they headed south. So not only is Mexico gaining jobs and exports, they are essentially sending their own burdens across the border. And then complaining about it….

In 2001, before 9/11, it appeared that this issue was going to be in the spotlight. Vicente Fox was making appearances, addressing us directly to explain what he thought the problem was and how it could be solved. If the standard of living in Mexico were raised close enough to that of the US, as with Canada, then people wouldn’t feel the need to cross illegally into the US. IIRC, it was sounding thoughtful, reasonable–though I don’t quite remember what solution he’d proposed (if anything beyond “increasing US-Mexico economic cooperation”) because my attention was then drawn, like everyone else, to 9/11 and Afghanistan.

So the issue was put on the back burner until recently, and now when we look at it, we see quite clearly that on top of all the other problems, this porous border is a threat to our security. No one is failing to acknowledge the issue of poverty as a driver for much of this migration, but neglecting border enforcement and ignoring the illegals here is not a solution and never has been. If anything, it has made it worse by subsidizing Mexican failure and neglect.

This must be a mistake. Otherwise this guy really deserves the “Moron of the Day Award”.The award is deserved anyway. How this guy speaks about another nation taking care of his citizens and the politicians in Mexico give him a standing ‘O’ -……

It’s easier to complain about someone else’s problems when you ignore your own.

Being 5th generation Texan I am well in the know. I speak Spanish pretty well and not by choice but from too much exposure here and having to travel to the sh*tholes in Mex. CA and SA.
What chaps my ass more than anything is a Hispanic with and American accent that insists on pronouncing his name and Spanish words with a thick Spanish accent..
esp. a Castilian type accent which isn’t even the way his grand parents spoke.
So long story short, La Raza can Chupa mi chorizo.

Read it. Excellent piece. I used to be one of those who said that would never happen. The recent meeting discussed in Schlafly’s story makes it obvious that I was wrong…

1. Business wants cheap labor
2. Democrats want votes by making illegals legal
3. Bush/Rove didn’t want to lose votes by alienating Hispanics.
4. Maybe Bush really is a Globalist and wants the United States of North America? (not sure about that one, but sometimes I wonder)

And 5, Unions, especially government Unions are so out of control and because they are actually threatening the economy, that importing cheap labor could be seen as an antidote or as an alternative to ever more demanding communist/autocratic Unions.
