Video: Specter urges Craig to fight on

Leahy makes the point I did yesterday about Vitter: yeah, admittedly, he hasn’t been convicted of anything but he’s all but confessed to having committed a crime. Hence the GOP’s double standard, which, as Leahy notes, may have less to do with gay versus straight sex than the respective party affiliations of the governors of Idado and Louisiana. But the star here is Specter, whose unerring “maverick” instinct carries him to the conclusion that a scandal that’s been resolved should be promptly unresolved and dragged out for months while Republicans writhe in political agony.

Exit question: Having been in Congress for so long, Craig must know plenty of rumors about other Republicans’ sexual habits. How did the party manage to strong-arm him into resigning with that nuke in his arsenal?
